AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

There's this thing called GDPR and safety. If you are willing to rescind that fair enough.

This is just data though. It is anonymised- nothing to do with GDPR. Census data is published all the time. It has nothing to do with safety or anything else for that matter. Just facts. Facts are nothing to be scared of. They give people information. I absolutely am not a fan of governments gatekeeping data. Why has an MP got more right to know this info than me?

I bet, Labour might thank you, but then again it keeps it in active and trending.

It's certainly not going away.

Araminta1004 · 29/08/2026 17:32

For Afghanistan, you could allow asylum from another safe country. Or you could allow asylum from any number of other countries with human rights violations towards girls where free passage for over 18s is possible. I didn’t mean under 18.

But until you crack down on criminal migrant gangs European wide by working together and deporting in accordance with mutually agreed parameters that are signed European wide, you are just going to get various changing Governments on both sides of the political spectrum point scoring for selfish reasons.

And why would that be?

The ICO details why.

So what's the problem with ID cards then.

Interesting to see the swing from threads not allowed to 77% yanbu. Women discussing this will annoy Labourites but it’ll gain ground.

Yes, this is not going to go away.

And the cries of racism, xenophobia and deflection tactics won’t work anymore.

Well, if I've jumped to certain conclusions then I apologise sincerely. My point is more towards the people in general who try and shut down discussion around this stuff, of which there are many.

And in truth I'm too lazy to go back and read what you actually wrote. 🤣

You are not too lazy to make vile jokes about child abuse, though. Good to see where your priorities lie.

Yep those attack lines worked for a while. Once we can actually discuss it’s pretty powerful. Let’s see what happens.

Why would it annoy Labourites? I think it is great to discuss the ins and outs of the data and its release. Looking forward to the follow up thread as long as there are no jokes about child abuse on it.

I agree. I think Reform are fomenting instability around various forms of migration for their own purposes. Labour and the Tories both have at least some theoretical interest in your idea. But Nigel?

Given the amount of support for the OPs @Fabiansrule post it seems reductive to continue on another thread.

The poll was for a week and the response to the poll was weak.

Well there is theory isn't there that Putin is using migration as a disruptive weapon? And we all know about Reform's Russian connections...
