AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

The men of greatest risk to any of us statistically, by far, are the men we know.

What point are you making here? That you don't know any non-British people so whether they're more likely to be sex offenders or not doesn't matter to you?

EasternStandard · Today 21:53

ClarkeandNewman · Today 21:51

Defend your point which was "why add to it...why have more?".

That wasn't my opinion. It was yours.

Why not be selective? Try to avoid high risk to women and girls but use visas still.

Nonsense.
Who’s this everyone.
Let me guess you are another one in a safe area with luxury beliefs.

Are you joking?
Surely everyone knows this!!

85-90% of women and children who are SA or raped are from people they know.

90% of the time it is in a place that they previously felt safe (eg their home, friends home, workplace etc rather than a dark alleyway).

Please research actual data from charities like Rape Crisis - whose only goal is to protect women and children from SA.

They are not part of any conspiracy theory, they are not hiding things from you.

We should definitely not be allowing undocumented men to wander freely around.

Why do we all have passports, undergo biometric fingerprinting, eyeball recognition etc to move between countries, yet men can make their way into this country illegally , then claim asylum - and are miraculously then not illegal and are totally at liberty. It makes no sense .

That has nothing to do with the point raised.

Exactly this!! 👏👏

These posters want statistics but completely ignore the statistics that are already out there.

No wonder the government is reluctant to release certain data when they choose to believe social media algorithms over actual statistical data.

LifetimesAgo · Today 21:56

poetryandwine · Today 16:34

You are correct. No Tory or Labour government has ever collected this data..

Whether it should be collected may be a matter for debate, but OP’s wording suggests that this is Labour’s doing. That is false.

What utter rubbish. Are you genuinely suggesting that the police and CPS records do not include the nationality of the people whom they are charging/ prosecuting/ convicting? Utterly absurd assertion given that they have to do so to verify their identity, provide information to INTERPOL, check for international arrest warrants or extradition requests, check identity of the suspect and their immigration status, etc.

ClarkeandNewman · Today 21:57

My question was extremely clear. Are you suggesting we end immigration? This is based on your original comment.

End your attempts at deflection.

In that case the data will show that and white British men will be wildly over represented by the data per capita.
We want to know what the actual data shows because we have a right to the facts.

People may under report the people that they know but the police are FAR more likely to be able to catch the 15% that were reported because the reporter will know their name and where they live!

So person A gets assaulted on a bus by an immigrant who puts their hands into their pants, the immigrant realise they’ve been clocked and scrapers off the bus before the overwhelmed victim has even processed what’s going on, and;
Person B is groped by their husband’s brother.

Yes only 15% of people report the brother, but they know damn well who they are so police will make an arrest.

I was person A and the bloke scarpered off the bus and into the immigrant area very quickly with their hood pulled up. There’s no way I’d be able to identify them.

i am keeping an open mind on what the stats might show despite my experiences as I know lots of lovely asylum seekers, but bloody hell it looks incredibly dodgy that the government are going to court not to release these stats.

Algorithms aren’t helping you here. There’s no benefit to not stopping crimes whether it’s a glass attack or by a screwdriver, when we could have.

There’s no way it’s good for those women to say oh well let’s just keep going with this it doesn’t matter. No point in clapping that.

LifetimesAgo · Today 21:59

The Danish and Germans manage it perfectly well.

All data on the profile and characteristics of criminals should be public (anonymised, obviously) as should all education data, health data and data collected from every other public institution at our expense. Transparency is essential for there to be democracy so that the electorate can hold politicians to account and make informed voting choices. There is no excuse whatsoever for repressing public data collected at taxpayer expense.

EasternStandard · Today 21:59

ClarkeandNewman · Today 21:55

That has nothing to do with the point raised.

Just don’t add more if it’s a risk. There are some ways to limit the risk via visas.

How can they perform statistical analysis on data if it is withheld?

I think you’re confused.

If 90% of rapes in this country were committed by illegal immigrants don’t you think we should all be aware of this and take steps to protect ourselves and each other??

People would be shouting the statistics from the rooftops if that was the case.

But they’re not responsible for 90% of rapes because these are committed by people we know.

So why is this statistic less important?
Why are people not pushing this statistic more on here instead of pushing the immigration status data?

It seems people only care about women and children if it fits their narrative.

@Blooko I agree.

Did anyone see the case about the tube sex offender Simon levy ??

Convicted of several murders and multiple gropings and sex offences in the tube mainly over many years. He was caught and let go many times.

How good are our policing systems ??
Can they cope with more sexual deviants ??

Id say. No.

@ClarkeandNewman thoughts ?

The data isn’t withheld.

When a woman or child is SA or raped, the data is recorded as to whether it was a stranger or someone they know.

Good on the victims / families pushing on this. They’ve been let down by Labour massively.

I’m a woman so of course I don’t walk around freely at night.

I don’t know any woman that does.

Even those who seem to, will always be on guard for being attacked because that is unfortunately part of being a woman.

But statistically if you do get attacked, it would only be 10% likely to be a stranger or in a dark alleyway etc.

90% of sexual crimes are committed by people we know, in places we feel safe.

Look up the Rape Crisis statistics on the website.

Their website is very easy to access and understand.

I knew someone would pipe up with the racism card.

How is it racism exactly, to want to know TRUE figures. How is it racism to want to keep the women/men and children of this country safe from these criminals being allowed in to our country.

I think OP, it’s because they dont want us to know the true extent of it.

How do you know the true extent of it if the figures haven’t been published?

Yes, we have a male violence against women problem … worldwide, and in the UK. Yes, immigration needs to be properly regulated. And good god it would be great if we could just deport foreign violent offenders!

But at the same time, the people so interested in “the data on immigrant men” are NOT also calling for, eg, a ban on football because of the rise in domestic violence after matches. The people interested in this data do not simply care about facts: they care about facts that they can use to justify their prejudices.

So two things can be true at the same time. The data can show that higher proportions of immigrant men commit crimes than native men. But prejudiced people can also use this data as an excuse to target individuals or groups they don’t like.

It’s become a kind of virtue signalling thing for some people: “I care about violence towards women! (*but am most vocal when it’s carried out by foreign men.)”
