AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

They don’t want to collect data about all sorts of things and unless they are forced to, they will continue to obfuscate.

Maajid Usman Nawaz explained it all rather beautifully recently and it’s everything we already know. Governments, councils, Mayors and politicians have worked together and been complicit in burying or failing to act on all sorts of sensitive information, for a variety of reasons, including being involved in the crime themselves (currently in jail re. The Rotherham Grooming gang case).

They ‘can’t do it’ because they don’t want to do it, and they’d prefer to continue to gaslight the public for as long as possible than give the public proof that they are at an increased risk of certain crimes, because those in power have failed to act.

On the cost argument the cap is £600 for an FOI request. Not sure where this idea that an FOI request is hugely expensive

The Ministry of Justice initially blocked the request by claiming that extracting and manipulating seven years of criminal conviction data would exceed the statutory cost limit of £600 (which equates to 24 hours of staff time calculated at £25 per hour). 1]

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) rejected this, ruling that the government failed to provide an accurate cost estimate to prove it would actually exceed £600.

Ironically, critics and campaign groups like the Centre for Migration Control argue that the government has already spent far more taxpayer money on legal fees fighting the appeal than the £600 it would cost to simply compile and print the data. 1, 2]

Even the seemingly simplest of FOIs can be costly to answer, you'd be surprised. Have you any experience of dealing with FOIs?

And yet the ICO have rejected your and Labour’s claim. I’m fine with that.

Doing this will cost less than £600. Andy Burnham’s Instagram posts probably cost more than that.

And his ‘No 10 North’ door.

A thousand quid I believe?

SoThatwasSummer · 29/08/2026 15:48

@GunnelVallquist many of us genuinely can't understand why people are being allowed to land on our shores unvetted !
The IRG that's the Iranian revolutionary guard are using these routes to get people in.
Why bother having any checks anywhere when these routes exist ?
We can't understand why it's not declared to be a national emergency ?
Why it's ok ?

I agree.

But apparently we have to shrug our shoulders and accept that ‘there is nothing that can be done about it’.

I would have thought it was fairly obvious - to avoid stupid, vigilante behaviour by racists.

But if it proves that migrants do not commit more crimes than native people, surely that would shut the racists up!
I think collecting data would be an excellent idea.

As usual, evading the question. I did laugha little at your post claiming it would cost less than 600 quid though. I think when the data is eventually released I will do an FOI on the cost. If it is less than £600 I will owe you an apology.😘

Great you do that. Isn’t lucky we have an FOI system.

And in this case the victims and their families are using it. Good on them.

Actually, that is not quite correct.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) later rejected the Ministry's cost-limit defense, ruling that the department failed to provide a properly evidenced and coherent cost estimate.

I absolutely 100% agree with you on all of that. FOIs wouldn't even exist without Labour, btw.

It's a good thing I didn't say you did. Others on here have said it though and you don't seem to be disagreeing with them.

Well, it's not entirely implausible that they might do one solitary good thing tbf. 🤣Jimmy Savile did some good stuff too. Same with Hitler lol.

It’s bit much that this current Labour are trying hard to not release in accordance with an FOI request.

This, like your now deleted "joke" about the rape of children, is not as funny as you think it is.

I wasn't joking in the post you just quoted.

Ok, so it’s utterly impossible to provide the statistical information requested. Utterly impossible, frightfully expensive, time consuming - obvious it can’t be done…

So - how about starting to collect meaningful data, sharing information, noting patterns? Or is this a no-no too?

I will support this. Just like I support joining up all government departments so data is standardised and shared. Just like I support ID cards which aid in this process.
I support data collected on every individual currently residing in the UK regardless of their nationality and ethnicity. What I don't support is collecting data on a single subset of population unless it is done for research purposes with approval from the research ethics committee.

I mean, it's not me defending these men. Few people have an issue with normal hard working people who keep themselves to themselves, even if they have little in common.

People are protesting against disturbing violent criminality and people like you are trying to shut them down and brand them racist. Let's not beat around the bush.

Wrong on all counts. I think the data should be released.

You are not pointing out those things though, you are simply indulging in sanctimony because you enjoy it.

What is an "ideal world" and how have you managed to identify mine? By using your special sanctimony feeling words?

Yes! Bang to rights 🤣

Well, if I've jumped to certain conclusions then I apologise sincerely. My point is more towards the people in general who try and shut down discussion around this stuff, of which there are many.

And in truth I'm too lazy to go back and read what you actually wrote. 🤣

Not the victims and their families. The FOI for these data was submitted by the Centre for Migration Control, a right wing think tank.

Brava. I also supported ID cards and support transparency in general.

I am always surprised at lack of support for ID cards on anti-immigrant threads, because they make it easier to track people.

Yes the victims and families. It’s in the op already.

The families of victims and crime survivors have jointly accused the Labour government of an attempted "cover-up". Eleven families and survivors—including relatives of high-profile murder victims and sexual assault survivors—sent a joint letter to Justice Secretary Alex Norris demanding the immediate release of the data
