AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

How many times do you need to be told? There’s enough xenophobia in this country already.

Omg really? Unbelievable

placemats · 29/08/2026 17:02

ID cards certainly contribute to security. Why would anyone who wants security as protection against violence against for women and girls reject them?

Not the victims and their families. The FOI for these data was submitted by the Centre for Migration Control, a right wing think tank.

Explains everything. Thank you.

No it doesn’t. It misses the signed letter. Rather dismissively to those victims.

But if it proves that migrants do not commit more crimes than native people, surely that would shut the racists up!
I think collecting data would be an excellent idea.

'Native people'. Please explain what this means.

Dismissing the victims and their families seems to be a common theme.

Can you provide a link to the signed letter?

As you are so supportive of the victims.

An Eritrean in Manchester has just been sent to prison for 8 years for rape and strangulation of a girl with no deportation order? Well no wonder Reform will win the next election - why oh why aren’t this Government deporting them at the very very least? - Anybody?

Sadly this is naive. I am sorry, because you may mean well.

Immigrants are on average younger than the British population overall. So are sex offenders. (Then one must compare the impact of socioeconomic and educational factors on offending rates.)

Data from other countries show that when like is carefully compared to like, differences in offence rates are small or disappear.

But Reform will present raw data without any attention to these important factors, particularly age. Instead of saying ‘Immigrant and home born men age 16-50 have equal rates of sex offences’ (if true) they will compare overall rates, probably of ‘males’. Well, there are many home born males under age 10 and over age 65 with a nil sex offender rate, and relatively few immigrant males of these ages. So the home offender rate gets reduced a lot but the immigrant rate does not. Many similar tricks can be played with sloppy language.

I will support this. Just like I support joining up all government departments so data is standardised and shared. Just like I support ID cards which aid in this process.
I support data collected on every individual currently residing in the UK regardless of their nationality and ethnicity. What I don't support is collecting data on a single subset of population unless it is done for research purposes with approval from the research ethics committee.

Sadly there are similar crimes in EU countries with ID cards. Germany has a large number of undocumented migrants, a recent crime that comes to mind was to a 16 year old girl.

Italy does too I think, and the op has linked a crime against a 13 year old girl. All the data systems are just not great at dealing with this.

My opinion would be that we aim to gather data and share it in line with our immediate European neighbours at large, in a consistent manner, so that any criminals and criminal gangs can be caught and dealt with, as a pan European approach. Rather than individual countries politically pointscoring.

The data will also help with defence to HR challenges to deportation. The aim has to be to help the genuinely vulnerable but send the criminals packing.

Probably against his human rights to return him. Its not safe for him in Eritrea, but OK to keep him here at our expense. Make it make sense?

It’s bad. It’s actually written there as the first piece of information. It’s very similar to Labour’s treatment of the families.

PS @Mrcollinswave I am in favour of full data release, but only within a careful, nonpartisan report written by professional statisticians. I mean senior members of the Royal Statistical Society. The Office of National Statistics and various Cabinet offices employ such people.

I don't doubt that. I am merely suggesting that it will significantly simplify data collection and monitoring. Obviously, there will be a number of people slipping through the net. I don't think ID cards are a prevention measure, nothing really is. My primary drive is to understand the full picture for which we need data and it's very hard to collect data (of almost any kind!) with the current state of government systems at the minute.

Usually it’s just not known until the crime happens. Which is too late for the victim.

At the moment Reform has a 2% chance of winning a majority at the next election. But you keep on hoping! You just never know.

Many British 13, 12, 9, 7, 5 years old girls are sexually harmed by their family members. Some sadly are murdered.

Look up the statistics. Shocking amounts of young women and girls are used as proxy for monetary purposes on the dark web. Some are fantasy stories. Most are their fathers.

Araminta1004 · 29/08/2026 17:18

I don’t think we can be accounting for “trauma, socio economic factors, cultural values” etc. Not when it comes to crime and a question of fact whether a crime has actually been committed. It is a fundamental principle of the law to be fact based. The excuse of ignorance of law or causation of why someone became a criminal does not come into it. Especially not if we are talking about becoming responsible for people we aren’t actually responsible for in the first place. Help should be extended to those most deserving in every way. There are over 8 billion people alive, many many extremely deserving of our help. Criminals really aren’t ones who are. Climate change is going to make things worse. It is time that Europeans stop being such cowards en masse and develop some systems together to deal with this.

Often fantasy stories regarding rape are circulated on the dark web for monetary purposes. If you wish to truly protect women and girls don't post details.

Araminta1004 · 29/08/2026 17:19

Send the criminals packing, take someone deserving instead? Would that appease those on the left?
