AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

Do you have evidence to support this claim or are you scaremongering?

The opposite of scaremongering is reassurance, which means spreading calm, comfort, and confidence instead of panic.

You are not doing that by calling people racist.

Most asylum seekers don't spend long on benefits

For those granted refugee status, Home Office data for 2015-2023 shows that only about one quarter were employed during the first year after receiving refugee status. From the second year onwards, the employment rate stabilised at roughly 50%. Of those in employment, 37% (i.e., less than one fifth of all refugees) were in full-time jobs eight years after being granted status, with a median annual income of around £23,000.

These figures are likely to include refugees who did not receive asylum support because they were financially self-sufficient during the asylum process. In the year ending March 2026, more than 28% of people awaiting an initial asylum decision or appealing a refusal were not receiving asylum support, although it is unclear how many of them were working.

Among those who do find work, earnings stay low. The median income for employed refugees aged 16-64 reached only £13,000 after eight years of receiving their refugee status. By comparison, the UK’s median salary was £34,963 during the same period. This is also evident in the number of refugees on Universal Credit (UC). In December 2024, about 66% of those who received their refugee status in the last five years were on UC.

Yes, your data from 2015-2023 reflects the problems with the old system where asylum seekers were not allowed to work for at least a year until their initial processing was done. Due to backlogs, this often stretched to 3-5yrs of no right to work. Once they were allowed to work, it was very limited as to how many hours and with their home country qualifications not transferring we had issues of consultant doctors having to apply to train in nursing. This has recently changed in the last 1-2yrs to allow asylum seekers to stare work sooner, to have a system to validate home country professional qualifications so they can apply for professional level jobs with better pay, and the number of hours they can work have been increased to full time.

@placemats apologies for the Telegraph link but this explains things I hope. Not sure why pps are so reluctant to provide links.

Edited

Thank you for the link.

So what I can extrapolate from that is that one out seven sex offenders in prison are foreign nationals, the majority being EU, and that the rest are British nationals.

Do you have evidence to support this claim or are you scaremongering?

Try reading the news. The amount of attacks caused by these immigrants is horrendous.
That’s why the government doesn’t want to share the data.
Maybe different departments IT aren’t joined up, but the data is there. Each dept could gather whatever relevant information they have and it can all be correlated.

NullaEffugium · 29/08/2026 12:56

GeneralPeter · 29/08/2026 09:46

Figures from Germany (and others similar) show some nationalities committing sex crimes at about twenty times the rate of Germans. We also have immigration from those countries.

Unless we publish the data, people might assume that the threat pattern here is similar.

If it’s not, then publishing the data can remove a lot of unfounded fear and stigma.

Isn’t that good?

And if the pattern is the same here, then knowing that is important to help combat sex crime.

Isn’t that important?

Again the figures from Germany showing 14x, 20x, the number seems to go up with each repetition like a game of telephone have been debunked as false in 2024 and mostly false in 2026. See links to the EU fact checkers reports on Germany and migrant crime that I posted upthread.

Ok, it’s in the press.

You are being deliberately obtuse and not at all helpful. Why would you do that? It's a matter of concern.

Somerford · 29/08/2026 12:57

ClarkeandNewman · 29/08/2026 12:48

So you do think that asylum seekers present a threat to babies and toddlers, since you denigrate me for even asking why.

I think that fear comes from bad faith actors putting about false information to be believed by the gullible a d those who want an excuse to be openly prejudiced.

An failed asylum seeker was arrested recently, found wandering around a school with weapons and petrol. I think we'll carry on taking precautions thanks, if that makes you angry then so be it. Its on you to learn to regulate your emotions.

ClarkeandNewman · 29/08/2026 12:31

What on earth do you think asylum seekers are going to do to babies and toddlers? You really must spell it out otherwise you are engaging in monstering people based on their ethnic background.

I assume we are talking about Islamic extremist attacks. You know the ones that stab or bomb little kids.

ClarkeandNewman · 29/08/2026 13:00

Dreameth · 29/08/2026 12:51

To be clear I don’t care what you think I think.

And I will leave this here because this is a thread about sexual crime and I apologise to OP for the tangent

You may not care what I think but you are putting around some very dangerous misinformation which I'm duty bound to point out.

Fabiansrule · 29/08/2026 13:01

Dreameth · 29/08/2026 12:27

Well we have had an armoured vehicle gate installed and the babies / toddlers have lockdown drills.

So no nothings happened thank god

Omg. That is horrendous. I'm shocked by that - what the fuck. Babies and toddlers in nursery with an armoured vehicle gate and lockdown drills? Wth is happening here. That is such a contrast to when my children were at nursey (they're older teens now). It's so sad.

No thanks.

Israelis stay and fight their battles - and get harangued for it.

And yet record numbers of Israelis are emigrating for the past 3 yrs in a row with the war being the most often cited reason for emigrating.

A record-setting wave of emigration from Israel continued in 2025, with nearly 50,000 Israelis leaving the country for more than 12 months for the third year in a row, according to a report published Monday by researchers at Tel Aviv University.
After about 49,000 Israelis left the country for more than a year in both 2023 and 2024, travel data from the Central Bureau of Statistics indicates the trend likely continued in 2025, Itai Ater, one of the report’s lead authors, told The Times of Israel.
The report argues that Israel’s prolonged military conflict and political tensions have contributed to elevated emigration that could threaten the country’s long-term strategic interests.

Missingmymeds · 29/08/2026 12:05

Well .. government is not releasing any information that would counteract any negative opinions..are they ..wonder why that is ...

Because they haven’t been collecting it. They don’t have it. I posted the UK.gov 2025 public release stating this upthread. That their systems would need to be upgraded and extra police hours needed if they were to start collecting the data. It stayed if improvements were funded and progressed as scheduled then they may have some experimental data in 2026.

This means we will have no reliable data before 2028, assuming all legal challenges are immediately batted down.

So why exactly are you posting on this thread?

Letting go is providing a link, which you choose not to do.

Your post reminds me of trying to get information from a service provider that simply doesn't act in good faith 😞
