AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

@mumumental Well, is it?

And @blossomtoes you've metaphorically (apparently) likened me to a pig but you still haven't answered the question .. why would releasing the data affect 'xenophobia?

A raw data dump is a demagogue’s tool. An unethical politician can make it say anything.

Collecting and organising the data is one massive problem as discussed above. IF any government is willing to fund that (and execute it), a proper, unbiased statistical report is a second huge task.

If the ICO order survives appeal I think the timeframe is years, not months. If it is rushed, I think there is a strong risk that if data is leaked or released improperly, Reform will abuse it and there will be deaths as a result. Some will be British.

5MinuteArgument · 29/08/2026 12:34

I think we can all agree that the main perpetrators of sexual crimes are young males.

In which case, allowing thousands of young males into our country is going to result in more sexual crimes. We need to severely restict the numbers of young males we allow into our country.

What on earth do you think asylum seekers are going to do to babies and toddlers? You really must spell it out otherwise you are engaging in monstering people based on their ethnic background.

PP are saying have you had any issues… I am saying no… but these are things which have happened as an effect of them being next door.

I am a parent. I didnt fund or buy the gate, or ask them to buy it. We didnt actually have it for 2 years and then it suddenly appeared after we had manned security guards for 2 months. So that was also a bit dystopian. I dont know what happened, what someone thought might happen or whether that was intel or fear based.

But yes these have been the impacts.

Wingingit73 · 29/08/2026 12:35

Because some people are raging racists. Lets focus on all the sex crime data.

And yet they have released these stats in Denmark, Sweden and Germany. No doubt their governments believe the people have a right to know what's going on.

But have you not asked? Are we blindly accepting the narrative that asylum seekers represent a risk to babies and toddlers? That's outrageous.

ZoeCM · 29/08/2026 12:22

Yes, this confused me, too. If the data shows that migrants are no likelier to commit sexual assault than anyone else, why would releasing that data result in vigilante attacks? It makes no sense.

The data in its current form does not show anything. The data is not systematically collected, it's not collected in the same way by ALL government structures and it's not collected for every individual etc. The data that has been collected to date has not been analysed to show whether anyone is more or less likely to commit offences. Therefore, releasing data in its current form cannot support either argument and will likely be manipulated to fit whatever narrative suits individual group.
It's like me saying that the data shows the answer to your question is 42. 42 what? 42 crimes, 42 percent, 42 reports, 42 convictions, 42 times more likely, 42 times more likely than what? Data needs anaysis and context and this is what MoD does not have. They have raw data and even this data is unlikely to be of a good quality.

No it’s not years, if Labour lose the information will be released quickly.

If the Labour Government loses its First-tier Tribunal appeal regarding the Centre for Migration Control (CMC) FOI request, the information would typically have to be published within 28 to 35 calendar days of the Tribunal issuing its final judgment, unless the government seeks a further appeal

Of course we asked. We were told that there is nothing to worry about and they are taking every precaution and security measure they can.

If someone else was in the know then I wasnt. They certainly looked like they were taking security very seriously to me. It was a worrying time and I considered taking DC out.

The hotel and the nursery had happily coexisted for 2 years prior to this sudden step up in security. So I have no idea why that happened. But thats what happened.

UnaGatita · 28/08/2026 16:32

I’m not sure we even collect that data. I did listen to a podcast where it was mentioned that Germany does collect that data and figures released showed migrants from specific countries were committing such offences at 17 times the rate of the native population.

Usual suspects is an accurate saying then tbh.

That might because you are looking up IOC instead of ICO.

Agree, this is a male violence problem and making it about immigration is all about distracting us from the core issues as to why women have never been safe.

And women are a lot less safe since all the male illegal immigrants and asylum seekers started arriving in their tens of thousands.

NullaEffugium · 29/08/2026 12:45

Anotherslicedear · 29/08/2026 08:45

German statistics have repeatedly shown over-representation of non-German and some migrant groups among suspects for certain violent and sexual offences

The U.K. would never disclose this information - but we can assume it’s just as bad here.

That was debunked by the German and EU fact checkers as both false in 2024 and mostly false in 2026. I posted the links upthread.

placemats · 29/08/2026 12:47

Fail to understand why @Fabiansrule and @EasternStandard profess to care so much about women and children yet are reluctant to give the relevant link. There could be women on here who need the information, yet are given little help.

I don't know much about Germany but Denmark and Sweden have a process where all government departments share data. Which makes data collection more robust. This is not the case in the UK where departments don't tend to talk to each other and there isn't a unifying IT system allowing us to collate data in the same way. This is probably what we should be focusing on first in order to allow for robust collection of data you want to see.
In my experience, people in the UK are not very happy for their data to be collected in this way. This is why there was a massive outcry when ID cards were proposed some years ago. Yet, ID cards and unifying IT system is exactly what would have facilitated this process as well as possibly significantly simplify our daily lives by facilitating shred records for the purposes of medical treatment, benefits application etc.

So you do think that asylum seekers present a threat to babies and toddlers, since you denigrate me for even asking why.

I think that fear comes from bad faith actors putting about false information to be believed by the gullible a d those who want an excuse to be openly prejudiced.

TemperanceWest · 29/08/2026 12:48

@placemats apologies for the Telegraph link but this explains things I hope. Not sure why pps are so reluctant to provide links.

The opposing agendas appear to be provision of victims versus preventing victims via risk assessment.

One is apparently virtuous, the unrestricted global offender opportunity agenda, whereas risk assessment leading to prevention is .... insert preferred pointless insult..
