AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

If you're saying the problem is young men are the most likely to rape and it's young men that are coming all the more reason to detain snd deport them. Let's use our asylum obligations for some women and children or at least families and say no to these men of the demographic most likely to carry out rapes.

I am saying that we don't know what the problem is because we don't have data. I am not saying "let's not have data". I am saying let's have data that's been appropriately systematised and analysed so that we can see the objective picture. I am saying let's not make decisions based on an assumption which may or may not be correct.

No. Not 'this'. As has been stated many times. The data exists. It is collected. It is not provided to those whom have asked for it. Why?

Edited

Because your request is very likely to be challenged in court. To avoid a charge of discrimination one needs data on everyone.

This data is self provided and of dubious reliability.

Mainly, as those who understand something about the way the government processes data have been saying, it is an effing massive effort. Data systems across local authorities are incompatible, data is incomplete, etc. The task is an awful mess in so many ways.

I predict that if the government - and I have bo doubt the Tories would be making a similar appeal, which I would also support - lose this appeal, some IT firm will pitch a naive and unfulfillable contract. When it isn’t delivered, we will have lost a very large sum of HMG funds and be no further ahead.

Then either the courts will see the sense of the MoJ position or the CS will painstakingly do this right, while blowhards bay for their heads.

No it’s not antisemitic for goodness sake. Israel is a war zone. It’s to show the gaping hole in the opinion that all men from countries that are war zones are therefore all going to be violent and dangerous to women. We know that is not true because we have many men emigrating here from war zones that are not any more violent.

Dear oh dear. The lengths you're going to.

That has nothing to do with the trauma that multiple children would suffer if subjected to the sight of mob murder/attempted murder right by their school or nursery or having to walk past angry groups that are making it clear that they want them and people like them (being little children of different ethnicities) removed not just from the area but off the face of the earth.

Yes. It's bad for society as a whole to have division, hatred and prejudice normalised, so often by those responsible for committing crime against women too. Many men "protesting" against migrants have convictions for domestic violence. To portray them as protectors helps nobody. We need to teach children that they have nothing to fear just because someone looks or sounds different to them. A lot of the posters on this thread appear utterly terrified by the unknown - it's sad to live life in a state of such fear.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 29/08/2026 11:52

So say the data was released to the general public and it showed that immigrants commit more sex crime.

What would be the positive outcome of releasing this information to the general public?

What do you want to see happen, as a result of the public release of data?

Winter2020 · 29/08/2026 11:52

NullaEffugium · 28/08/2026 23:32

Except the viral versions of the data from other countries that you are using as references have been debunked by EU fact checkers.

Given how the data from other countries has been abused by agitators intent on sowing racial hatred, I’m not surprised our government is exercising caution.

Edited

So all data that shows anything you don't want to be true is discredited?

Do you think growing up in a culture where women must be covered from the top of their heads to the tips of their toes and even, in some countries, stay away from windows lest they tempt men has zero effect on these men? Do you think all men all around the world are the same and have the same risk profile despite growing up in massively different cultures? Do you think that is likely?

Why don't we collect/publish the data and actually find out?

Step of the merry go round
I have
I can't change it
I can't stop it
I can't control it
All I can do is think carefully where I place my X in the box in three years time

No need to think too much, for you it's going to be Restore or Reform, let's be honest.

If the data told me an Afghan was 14 times likely to rape then putting 4 of them in an HMO next door to a school would be a massive no! Surely that’s the type of thing we do with stats and as for being raped by Jim from Middletown or Mo from Sudan no contest!

The data doesn't tell you that, the report that figure came from used falsified data. The author deleted the tab from the source data that explained why it couldn't be used to calculate per capita figures.

Why do none of you do even a little bit of due diligence on the 'facts' you spout?

ClarkeandNewman · 29/08/2026 11:53

EasternStandard · 29/08/2026 11:43

It hasn’t happened, whereas Rhiannon Whyte was actually murdered with a screwdriver and the 13 year old girl pled for her life.

For goodness sake stop revelling in the details!

NullaEffugium · 29/08/2026 11:53

DeftGoldHedgehog · 29/08/2026 11:40

What we do know is that 98% of sex crimes are committed by men, and 90% of violent crimes are committed by men, of whatever race, colour or nationality.

Perhaps we should seriously restrict the movements of all men by default unless they can prove they can behave themselves.

Agree, this is a male violence problem and making it about immigration is all about distracting us from the core issues as to why women have never been safe.

So we have this information and it’s ok to have it.

Some seem certain that this data will debunk myths anyway.

We have ethnicity data yes, but the point I was trying to make is that data ≠ the whole story.

For example, the same data set also shows that black men are over represented in conviction stats (7% of convictions vs 3.7% of population) but later in the report the MoJ states that..

"All ethnic groups were significantly more likely to be sentenced to immediate custody for indictable offences compared to White offenders, with rates being statistically significant but not practically significant.

The most pronounced disparities were seen in sentencing for drug offences where all ethnic groups were both practically and significantly more likely to receive custody in comparison to White offenders."

But nefarious actors won't tell you that bit, they'll just say "ethinic minorities are more likely to be criminals, look the data says so".

poetryandwine · 29/08/2026 11:54

My post above is not incompatible with what I saidxto @GeneralPeter

I am fine with a proper data release in the context of a statistically rigorous report. It takes time to do that right. No one can estimate how much without knowing a lot about systems details.

I am not at all fine with rushing, short cuts, a raw data dump or above all the simple failure to appreciate what this mammoth task entails.

Why should sex be adjusted ?

  • Rape is a 99% a male crime. We know that immigrant populations tend to be more than 50% male. So not adjusting for sex creates the false impression that immigrants are more likely to rape because they are immigrants when in fact they are no different from local men once the numbers of women have been removed from their % share of total country population for locals and immigrants.

Why should age be adjusted ?

  • Young men are more likely to rape than older men. Immigrant populations tend to be much younger than local populations. If you don’t adjust for the ages of the men, then that creates the false impression that the immigrant population is more likely to be rapists because they are immigrants when in fact, they are no different from local men the same age.

So the last demographic we need to be admitting to the country by the 10s of thousands are men then, particularly young men. Got it. I agree. No to tens of thousands of young, uninvited men being allowed to walk into our country and roam freely.

ClarkeandNewman · 29/08/2026 11:55

Missingmymeds · 29/08/2026 11:48

Will .. obviously..
If it wasn't a problem.. government wouldn't hide it ...would they ???

Why do you believe the government would want to cover up what you believe there is statistical evidence to prove?

Myoldmansascouser · 29/08/2026 11:56

This is what I could find out - so make of it what you will.

Freedom-of-information extracts of Ministry of Justice and Police National Computer data published in 2024–25 show that known foreign nationals accounted for roughly 14–15% of sexual-offence convictions in 2024 (commonly phrased as “one in seven”), with an additional share of convictions listed as “unknown” nationality that some outlets add to reach estimates as high as about 23% when combined .
Separate breakdowns focusing specifically on sexual assaults against women found foreign nationals made up about 26% of convictions in one recent year — a figure repeatedly cited by outlets and researchers using MoJ data.
At the charging and arrest stage, analyses by the Centre for Migration Control and force-level FOIs report thousands of arrests of foreign nationals for sexual offences — more than 9,000 in the first ten months of one recent year across 41 forces — and in London force data foreign nationals were reported to account for roughly 40–47% of those charged for sexual offences in 2024 when unknowns are excluded

It’s probably not hard to run the data, the ICO rejected the excuses for not releasing so it wasn’t that stopping them.

So if they’ve run it, they’ve probably realised it won’t look good to the public.

Probably...probably...

If you really can't resist answering for others, let's have some definites at least.

Why do you believe the government would want to cover up what you believe there is statistical evidence to prove?

Because if it was good news ...if the rates were lower in newcomers than statistics for natives in UK ..then government would be singing from rooftops how this was good for UK ...
But what government is actually saying is ...every area must take their share ,as that's only fair ...
That doesn't make it sound like something positive to me ....

MaturingCheeseball · 29/08/2026 11:59

I wouldn’t be surprised if the data is published, but redacted so much as to render it meaningless.

As for all the protesters being far right men with domestic violence records, maybe up till now outside some of the asylum hotels. But Piddington? Those people look pretty ordinary law-abiding citizens to me.

It’s not going to be challenged. The ICO have said it’s fine.

The ICO is not a court of law and their decisions can be challenged in court.
