AIBU to think migrant sex crime data should be published? And to wonder why Labour are blocking the release of that data?

Labour Blocks Release of Migrant Crime Data

'Victims of serious crimes and their families have joined forces to demand that the Labour government publish detailed data on offences committed by foreign nationals, accusing ministers of withholding information that is “clearly and legitimately in the public interest”.

Among the signatories are victims of high-profile sexual offences and families of murder victims. One signatory is a 14-year-old victim of a sexual assault in Epping allegedly committed by an illegal immigrant, in the same Essex town where asylum seekers were housed at the controversial Bell Hotel.
Fiona Goddard, a survivor of rape-gang grooming who has campaigned publicly about her experiences, has also signed the letter.

Eight relatives of Rhiannon Whyte, a hotel worker murdered by a Sudanese national, are also among those backing the demand.'

There's that frothing word again. I came came from a starting point of which foreign national group represented a high number of offenders per se.

They love the word 'frothing'. Funny because it is most definitely what they do a lot of. Bless em.

Ah original, says a lot about you. I wasn't ignoring you on purpose, I guess your questions got lost in a fog of blah. A big blob of blah, if you will.

My answer is no they are not interchangeable. I'd like data for each one.

There's nothing xenophobic or frothy about asserting your right to access information and that's been validated by the IOC. These defensive posts are quite telling.

Then don't treat them as though they do. Your op was already tenuous; the fact that you don't understand terms relating to what you want to discuss makes it fairly meaningless.

Was it you who also didn't understand the basics of statistics and viciously attacked those who tried to explain? I can't remember; I feel I've waded through such a sea of ignorance on this thread.

There’s definitely more of it on the thread v the yanbu vote.

Labour won’t have public opinion on their side for this.

Then you utterly misunderstood what I was saying in your rush to express racist and xenophobic views. Embarrassing for you.

You still haven't answered me, @blossomtoes - Why would releasing the sex crime data increase 'xenophobia'?

And I told you that you were being disingenuous. You know precisely why so drop the faux innocence.

Can you point out where I've been xenophobic and racist? It might help to use legal guidelines.

Indeed.. it's almost as if they don't like freedom of information. Or democracy.

Well after this blocking of information release, why don't we also look at how the Labour leader, our current PM, found power.

Burnhams route to No.10 as PM. Extraordinarily questionable. Where's the fuss?

There's a theme.

Yep we have a good system for FOI.

We do and it's bullet proof, as Labour has found. We should be glad for such a robust system.

You know full well I can answer. And have. The answer is right there in my posts on this thread. I’m not going to give you the satisfaction of a debate that’s the equivalent of wrestling a pig.

What a load of scaremongering, right wing crap. There are rapists everywhere, in every society, and definitely including ours. There is no reliable, sufficiently large or high enough quality data to make any clear assumptions about ethnicity and rape (ONS). And why bother, since when race is counted in specific (eg geographical) situations, it shows is that 1. Most are white and 2. the racists refuse to believe it anyway.

Absolutely. Freedom of information is key. Some may be fighting against it for various reasons but it’s vital in a democracy. It’s good and shouldn’t be overridden as a system.

I guess the IOC must be racist then.

No, the second link doesn’t say 40% were foreign nationals, it actually states
Also, the claim is false because there are no crime statistics for people with a migrant background.”

It says;
A look into the tables shows that the 111.517 out of 190.695 suspects (58.5%) are actually not from the migrants, but from the people with German citizenship.

And in fact, your first link says;

To put things into context, it is also important to note that non-German suspects are clearly over-represented in the statistics on violence – accounting for 42.9 per cent – compared with their actual share of around 15 per cent of the German population

there are no crime statistics for people with a migrant background

The politician should have referred to current status - foreign nationals/people without German citizenship rather than people with a migrant background.

Yes. I asked someone (you? Not you? No idea) not to tiptoe around with euphemistic italics but come out and show the groups they were prejudiced against. You readily obliged.

That is why they are letting asylum seekers work as soon as the checks are done. Most asylum seekers don't spend long on benefits. Look at the Ukrainian ones for how it can be done successfully.

Most asylum seekers don't spend long on benefits

For those granted refugee status, Home Office data for 2015-2023 shows that only about one quarter were employed during the first year after receiving refugee status. From the second year onwards, the employment rate stabilised at roughly 50%. Of those in employment, 37% (i.e., less than one fifth of all refugees) were in full-time jobs eight years after being granted status, with a median annual income of around £23,000.

These figures are likely to include refugees who did not receive asylum support because they were financially self-sufficient during the asylum process. In the year ending March 2026, more than 28% of people awaiting an initial asylum decision or appealing a refusal were not receiving asylum support, although it is unclear how many of them were working.

Among those who do find work, earnings stay low. The median income for employed refugees aged 16-64 reached only £13,000 after eight years of receiving their refugee status. By comparison, the UK’s median salary was £34,963 during the same period. This is also evident in the number of refugees on Universal Credit (UC). In December 2024, about 66% of those who received their refugee status in the last five years were on UC.
