Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

All this is a bit late - you're probably on your flight. Lesson learned, just book an appointment for a day on which you aren't strapped for time.

Sorry- a short haul flight is two, a long haul is three.

I mean either way you're still enormously overestimating it.

There has been immense drama over queues at airports this summer. I have flew to Malaga on Weds and it was a breeze compared to last year. Like not a single person waiting ahead at passport control. The only queues I have had during flights leaving Uk the last couple of years are 5 to 7 am flights. Afternoon flights are lovely.

im still like the OP though. I won’t risk missing my flight.

Any time I’ve arrived at an airport over 2 hours before flight time the check in desk hasn’t even been open! What do people do for hours if they have check in luggage? Just sit about waiting?

Bag drop was open at 3:30 solid.

I arrived at 15:19 so hardly the masses of time people made out I’d have!

You don't think 4 hours of sitting waiting to board is masses of time?

PuppyMonkey · Today 16:59

Don’t want to out yourself, lol. Anybody at an airport right now and can spot OP a mile off with her fabulous hair? Grin

Your hairdresser was late, your drive took the maximum 4 hours, and you are still at the airport nearly 4 hours before your short haul flight which is masses of time!

On what planet is 4 hours early not "masses of time"? 😂

fumingrightnow1 · Today 17:18

Yabu to leave it until last minute to go to the hairdressers. People like you really irritate me. I work in retail and people will come in the morning off first day back at school and moan that we don't have school shoes in their childs size and it some how becomes my fault. Or come to pick up their currency on the way to the airport and then get annoyed because the travel money counter is closed or they can't get what they need. There is absolutely no need to leave everything until the very last minute.

Do you know anyone working at the airport? If it’s taking too long, maybe they could help you out. Ask them to wait.

Are you being serious? 😂😂😂

Delphiniumandlupins · Today 17:29

Glad you got there in plenty of time. I don't think I would have added a stop at motorway services if I had any concerns about time.

You were still there 11 minutes before check in even opened 😵‍💫

Out of interest OP how early would you have to arrive at an airport to feel like you had ‘masses of time’?

OneStepForwardsTenStepsBack · Today 17:35

idonthavetimeforthisrn · Today 13:03

Not sure why anyone would aim for two when every airline says three?

So few flights go from Cardiff I’d say even 2 hours is unnecessary!

StressedOutPeanut · Today 17:36

How deluded you sound. Four hours is plenty of time.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · Today 17:36

My parents were notoriously early for everything. They were once picking us up at Gatwick after we had flown in from Venice. As we were awaiting take-off at Marco Polo I said to my partner that I bet they were already at Gatwick. Guess what. 😂

notacooldad · Today 17:37

Airports have probably quietened down a bit as summer ends but at peak times people arriving too early cause problems and congestion. 4 hours, unless you are on a connecting flight and already in transit, is mad.

OneStepForwardsTenStepsBack · Today 17:37

For those that have never been there, Cardiff airport takes about 10 mins max to get through security (if they have to boot up the machine) and there is a pub, a WHSmith and a coffee shop in the departure hall. You could tie your wrists to your ankles and make it from drop off to departures in less than 20 mins!

This is one of the busiest weekends of the year

Anyone who travels on the M5 anywhere past Stroud, knows it can be a complete nightmare. A 2.15 hour journey took us twice as long a few weeks ago. Admittedly it was a Sunday, but a couple of weeks ago a 1hr15mins journey had an hour added to it with constant slow moving traffic.

Why pick Stroud? Birmingham is a nightmare. Bristol is a nightmare. The M5 is a nightmare from beginning to end.

Lol. Departures from Cardiff this evening. It will be like a ghost town.

OP must be on a private jet as there aren’t any 7pm departures.

As tge op is flying from Cardiff it doesn't sound like its a problem but if its one of the busiest people who arrive 4 hours early cause congestion.

OneStepForwardsTenStepsBack · Today 17:43

idonthavetimeforthisrn · Today 13:14

Yes, I’ve not said the actual airport because I don’t want to out myself!

Fucks sake.

OneStepForwardsTenStepsBack · Today 17:43

So now we can play guess the airport. Going to assume Bristol, which is hideous and makes more sense that OP would worry.

Ummm M5 then saying Cardiff sort of gives you an idea!!

Is she to be trusted though, given the M5 doesn't go to Cardiff?

I live near Cardiff and have to use the M5 to go to lots of places. And it’s a nightmare. But then so is the M4.

3luckystars · Today 17:49

A day long thread woohoo, I haven’t been on one of these for AGES. It’s like one of the ‘I think I might be in labour’ threads from years ago. We got photo updates on those though!

I’m expecting the same standard OP.
