Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

I guess it depends on the type of holiday. I dont even dry my hair on holiday but we just go to total beach type holidays and dont bother dressing up. If its a city type holiday or visiting family, worth waiting as long as you dont actually miss check in. I want to go on holiday now! Oh for our little bungalow on the beach with the sound of the sea 🌊

Dramatic?

Come on OP- fine if you personally want to allow most of a day to get to an airport but you surely are aware that most people aim to arrive 2 hours before a flight?

It seems that your appointment was done about the same time you always expected it to be done, so its hard to see what was so stressful about it.

Not sure why anyone would aim for two when every airline says three?

We’ve been stopped for at least ten minutes so far and it’s only added five minutes onto the journey so it looks like things are clearing ahead!

Sorry- a short haul flight is two, a long haul is three.

I mean either way you're still enormously overestimating it.

You're going to be at the airport at least 5 hours before your flight. That's a lot of waiting around, even for those who like to be prepared.

No, the airline have said three for this short haul flight

It's telling your ignoring those of us saying she finished your appointment at the same sort of time as expected.

You still have 6 hours until your flight you're going to spend hours waiting at the airport as most of us predicted.

Hope bag drop is open for you when you get there otherwise you'll have a VERY long dull wait before you even make it to Duty Free...

Down to Cardiff! It’ll be even worse

Weirdly there are no flights leaving at 7pm from Cardiff tonight.......

I've never seen that for short haul flights. Even if you did want to get there 3 hours early, and plan for a 4 hour drive to be safe, the latest you would need to leave is 12 so you were being unreasonable to be worried.

Which airline is it? I have never seen an airline say 3 hours for short haul, so that is surprising.

Interesting - OP, are you sure you have the right day and/or time?!

sweetpickle2 · Today 13:12

Plot twist- the flight is 7pm next Friday and OP is just being extra cautious.

Looks like the OP has bigger problems than her hairdresser being a tiny bit late then.

Who are you flying with?

Yes, I’ve not said the actual airport because I don’t want to out myself!

Know what you mean but this three hour rule seems to have traction on MN...might be due to all the hoo haa around flights ex-Europe earlier this summer.

It also doesn't help that some airports cover their backsides by recommending three hours for reasons, various, including getting passengers to spend money airside

In the real world at many airports bag drop/physical check-in won't open until maybe three or even two hours prior to departure, and the desks won't close until (for shorthaul) an hour to go, maybe less at many places.

They always say this. What’s important is when check in closes, and when the gate closes.
I tend to operate more of a just in time schedule.

Not mentioning the airport is one thing, but it's weird for you to and out and out say a completely different airport unprompted.

Jumped the shark a bit for me I think.

HoldMyWine · Today 13:22

Fingers crossed for you OP, M4 west bound is always chocka on a Friday afternoon, even worse on a BH, especially around Brynglas tunnels

DressOrSkirt · Today 13:24

Wizzair is the only airline in the UK that recommends 3 hours for short haul flights, and they don't have any departures from the UK between 6 and 8 anyways...

If you want to be there ridiculously early just own it!
