Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

Is this a joke post? Obviously, if you are actually at the hairdressers, you will get up and leave when you have to. And next time you won't book a hair cut or anything else when you're heading for the airport a couple of hours later.

So you still have 7 hours and 45 minutes before your plane departs. Absolute drama llama

This. What an utter waste of time reading this thread. OP budgeted in an extra 3 hour window buffer to get to the airport that was she claims a 4 hour maximum in worst-case-scenario drive away (so gave herself around 7 hours in total for a 4 hour journey) but somehow didn’t budget in even a 10 mins buffer for a hair appointment and got anxiety over the appointment eating in to her already obscenely generous travel time contingency window. Absolutely ridiculous.

CheeseWisely · Today 11:55

Are you my Mum OP? If they’re flying any earlier than about 4pm she goes the day before and books an airport hotel. Blows my mind.

SpriteFairyPixie · Today 11:59

I think really it's best not to book anything like that on a day you're due to fly.

Youhadrambledonfor18pages · Today 12:00

Yabu to book a hair appointment with no wriggle room on time if you have a flight to catch. Could have booked for the day before or the week before.

PIL are like this. We got a short haul flight with them once and they wanted to arrive at the airport 8 hours before the flight. We live 1.5 hours away.

Not sure what the relevance of you having a flight later today is to the hairdresser? I doubt she planned to sleep in, were you expecting her to set extra alarms just for you on the off-chance?

Assuming your appointment was at 9 posting this at 8.53 seems an unnecessarily dramatic. Is she there now?

If needed for her to get to work on time, then yes?

I’m out! Christ that was stressful

You still have almost 8 hours before your plane leaves, how the fuck can that be so stressful??

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · Today 12:12

Hope the drive to the airport isn't as stressful for you.

I've lost count of the number of hours I've sat stationary on the delightful m5.

GoodGraciousGeorgie · Today 12:14

A bit of a panicked overreaction there OP, but to be fair any journey involving the M5 and M4 heading south on a bank holiday has a high chance of being a fucking nightmare. Seriously high, with very long delays, I think the window she gave herself was fair enough to be honest! I hope your hair looks lovely and you have a great trip!

Flight is this evening at 7. It can be anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to the airport, the appointment is meant to be 2 hours and so I was supposed to be leaving for the airport at 11.

Hahaha sorry your wayyy over estimated your time u have to be at the airport for 5pm if flight is at 7 pm !
But who gets their hair done the day they fly !!
I'm a Hairstylist I've never done anyone's hair on the day that is insane ,!!! X

weddingembarrassment · Today 12:22

I have second hand anxiety for OP, booking a hair appointment on the day you fly on holiday is WILD to me. Why do this to yourself?! Literally anything could happen! What if the hairdresser had been unwell on the day? I had mine done 3 days before I flew and I was anxious about that 😂

Noodlehen · Today 12:25

I feel like there’s a diagnosis missing, you should see someone!

glad you will make it, don’t think anyone doubted it - have a great holiday

BinNightTonight · Today 12:26

How are you planning to spend your 5 hours and 45 minutes? Grin

whynotwhatknot · Today 12:27

never queued at gatwick heathrfow on the other hand was a nightmare-enjoy your holiday op

LaurieFairyCake · Today 12:30

Hope you have a lovely 🥰 holiday and that you make your flight no problem

It's WIGGLE room, people!

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · Today 12:35

Ye Gods!!! I had to keep scrolling to find out if your hairdresser made it.

Now I'm going to be wondering if you make it to the airport in time too or if you will have to stop and get the train, but then where will you park the car. 😂
Hope you have a lovely holiday and a relaxing flight!
Now you've made me sound like I work for an airline.

MrsPhilippaPippaVoss · Today 12:36

hope you catch the flight @idonthavetimeforthisrn

idonthavetimeforthisrn · Today 12:44

We’re about to stop at the services, thank god I have a lift!

I don’t want to jinx it but so far so good!

Very dramatic aren’t you! Your flight isn’t till 7 - if you know you get so dramatic about timings why on earth book your hair appt for today?

Why does it take 2-4 h to drive to the airport. Surely it is one or the other? Or do you mean 2h but you want to build in 2h for delays? You sound like my Mum, she always builds in masses of extra time when travelling, the worst case was when she took me to the train station that was ~10 minutes away and we arrived over an hour early. If you are 2 hours from the airport then as long as you leave before lunch you will be fine. They always build in masses of time in their recommendations for getting through the airport.

But if you get so anxious about travelling maybe next time book your hair appointment for the day before. Because this isn't the hairdresser's fault if you are getting very anxious with no reason and you shouldn't take it out on her.

Edited

It's a bank holiday weekend, and the last one of the summer before schools go back, the roads will be mad this afternoon/tonight!

What? 🙄 so you don’t expect a professional business to keep a scheduled appointment? Jesus Christ 😂
