Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

She might need to go on M5 to start with to get to Cardiff. It’s looking pretty red (as always) round that area on Maps

It’s nearly 6pm on Friday - it is probably glowing red along most of it regardless of the BH weekend!

Honestly, I work 200 miles away, full time, my hairdresser works half a day a week and I book her a year in advance and even I wouldn’t attempt a hair appt on the same day as a flight. Being a BH Friday just sprinkles shit glitter over the top!

OneStepForwardsTenStepsBack · Today 17:51

But OP lied about flying from Cardiff so it’s all a waste of time anyway.

3luckystars · Today 17:52

Maybe she will post photos of her hair though

Roomforapony · Today 17:55

ChakaKan · Today 13:39

OP wouldn’t have missed her flight because she is already allowing 3-5 business days to arrive at the airport

Nearly choked on my cup of tea reading this 🤣🤣🤣

For those that have never been there, Cardiff airport takes about 10 mins max to get through security (if they have to boot up the machine) and there is a pub, a WHSmith and a coffee shop in the departure hall. You could tie your wrists to your ankles and make it from drop off to departures in less than 20 mins!

Edited

This reminds me of one time I was going through security in Knock (even smaller at only 3 gates) and a couple pushed past all 5 of us queuing, in a panic that they were going to miss their flight. They were of course on the same flight as the rest of us which was still over an hour away. They seemed genuinely stressed so I think they just didn't know how small it was.

Regardless of traffic, why would you want to travel any distance with prickly hair trimmings down your neck. Yuck.

That’s hilarious.

I know a woman who got from the carpark to the gate in 7 minutes at Shannon Airport. She could not believe it.

That's what you took from this?

Is she to be trusted though, given the M5 doesn't go to Cardiff?

I did wonder about OP’s road sense if she thought Cardiff was off the M5….

Yabu to leave it until last minute to go to the hairdressers. People like you really irritate me. I work in retail and people will come in the morning off first day back at school and moan that we don't have school shoes in their childs size and it some how becomes my fault. Or come to pick up their currency on the way to the airport and then get annoyed because the travel money counter is closed or they can't get what they need. There is absolutely no need to leave everything until the very last minute.

She was at the airport a whole 4 hours before her flight. What’s more irritating is all the flapping about potentially missing her flight when she had absolute hours 😂

Yup.

I can understand the desire to set off early due to traffic but cannot understand why you would choose to travel for hours with that scratchy neck feeling.

I used to live about 40 mins away which was so handy! I'd leave 2 or 2.5 hours before my flight.
Now my closest airport is Dublin 😔

I meant to quote @Cosyblankets don't know how I got the wrong one!

Everybody's different.

3luckystars · Today 18:48

I have never had a scratchy neck after a hairdresser. They put about 6 capes around me. I have very long hair though so maybe it’s different with a shorter haircut.

Op wont be able to reply as she will be getting on the plane at cardiff/bristol/Birmingham /gatwick/Heathrow

Bag drop was open at 3:30 solid.

I arrived at 15:19 so hardly the masses of time people made out I’d have!

Over three and half hours before the flight and you think that's "hardly masses of time"?! Better start fretting about the return flight now!

You're sitting at the airport for best part of 4 hours?
This was all a you problem op

I live near Cardiff and have to use the M5 to go to lots of places. And it’s a nightmare. But then so is the M4.

My comment was tongue in cheek but the fact remains that the M5 doesn't actually go to Cardiff. I also have first hand experience of the M5 and all its horrors. Commiserations.

You might want to change to a hairdressers who knows how capes work.

Not sure why anyone would aim for two when every airline says three?

Because you don't need anywhere like 3 hours in reality?

VividDeer · Today 20:48

You had a lot of spare time at cardiff Airport:)
Have you ever been there lol

Elderone · Today 20:53

To be fair to OP it has been bedlam on the roads today. I completely forgot it was bank holiday weekend (and a very busy one with loads of festival events on) and went out. Did a drive that I drive all the time and usually takes me about an hour and a half, right past a major airport. Not in rush hour. Didn’t bother to look at the satnav. Put the traffic down to the weather at first and then it dawned on me.

Took me 4 and a half hours!!!
