Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

Yes, that’s exactly what you do if you need to.

Has someone made a joke about "cutting it fine"? That might lighten the mood.

NancyThompson · Today 08:55

You'll need to prioritise catching your flight.

It’s just really frustrating as they’re normally perfectly on time

How tight is your timing though? Presumably you’ve given yourself proper leeway and if she’s 10 mins late or so then that’s time that can be easily made up and within the normal variance of how long an appointment takes anyway. Depends how much you want your hair done before you go I suppose!

Flight is this evening at 7. It can be anywhere from 2 to 4 hours to the airport, the appointment is meant to be 2 hours and so I was supposed to be leaving for the airport at 11.

Depends on how tight the timing is and how bad your hair looks without hairdressing

Blimey, you’ll be fine!

ladyb2gw · Today 08:58

Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face. Maybe just remind her now that you have limited time

moppety · Today 08:59

I think you’ll be fine! 10-20 mins isn’t going to make any real difference to those timings. If you leave at 11 and it does only take you two hours, you’d be hanging around the airport for six hours!

4Tornot4T · Today 08:59

You have to catch your flight - that must be your priority and it won't wait because your hairdresser is running late.

If you need to leave just explain why you're going so it doesn't look as though you're storming out.

Good luck catching your flight.

CheeseWisely · Today 08:59

Not sure what the relevance of you having a flight later today is to the hairdresser? I doubt she planned to sleep in, were you expecting her to set extra alarms just for you on the off-chance?

Assuming your appointment was at 9 posting this at 8.53 seems an unnecessarily dramatic. Is she there now?

AuntieBiotics · Today 09:00

What? 2-4 hours to the airport and leaving at 11, so best case scenario you are there at 1pm for a 7pm flight? Or worst case scenario, 4 hours ahead of your flight?

You have loads of time. 10 minutes is neither here nor there. Why are you aiming to spend so much time hanging around in an airport?

Slightyamusedandsilly · Today 09:00

Did she arrive in time?

Sorry but why on earth have you booked in for a hair appointment when you are meant to be leaving really soon after it?! For the airport, for a FLIGHT? You have given yourself NO wriggle room whatsoever.

Bizarre! Confused

That still gives you hours to play with. In your own worst case scenario, you don't need to leave until 1! You'll be fine.

It’s the m5 on a bank holiday weekend. God knows what will happen! I’d rather be early than miss the flight

And I’m the queen of arriving early to places but even so, you’ve got absolutely masses of time to play with.

She has enough wriggle room for a 4 hour hair appointment. At least.

If Op leaves for the airport at 11 she has 8 hours wiggle room 😂

I think Op is perhaps a little stressed out

If you leave at 11, even if it takes 4 hours to get there, you be at the airport 4 hours before departure. Thats a lot of hanging around. And if it only takes 2 hours to get there you’ll have 6 hours in the airport! Personally think you e got enough leeway in your schedule to wait a little bit for your haircut.
