Hairdresser is running late and I have a flight to catch!

I’m booked into my hairdressers first appointment of the day. I arrived ten minutes early and they’ve told me she’s running late as she got out of bed late!

She is very much aware of the fact I have a flight to catch. I booked this a lot with the explicit reason of it being because I have a flight this afternoon. She put a note on my record to say I was getting a flight.

What do I do?! AIBU to walk out if it gets to nine and she’s not ready?

No point having regrets but next time do your hair on a different day.

I want you to go by train anyway. Trains get cancelled but less risky than your route.

I am so cautious about arriving at airports.

You ever been on the M5? Even without it being a Bank Holiday weekend it can be a nightmare

Do you know anyone working at the airport? If it’s taking too long, maybe they could help you out. Ask them to wait.

It was daft to book the appointment on the day of the flight especially as you knew it was the bank holiday weekend and you'd be worried about the traffic.

Have you seen the roads? I think she is sensible rathe than neurotic . Surely it's better to be early than leaving it late and be stressed about being late. Also airports, especially this time of year can be chaotic. We almost missed a flight even though we arrived two hours early because of queues,/passport control etc

Assuming you're driving up the M5 to Bristol I understand your concern. I've been stuck in M5 traffic trying to get to the airport on a Friday, having allowed lots of time. They were waiting for us, rushed us through, no time even for a wee! The M5 has been horrendous this summer. I'm sure you'll be fine but I get why you're worried.

Flight’s at 7. Work backwards with worst case scenario.
I’ll assume it’s long haul and you’re checking a bag.
-You need to be there for 5.
-4 hour journey, you need the hairdresser to be done at 1pm.

Even if she bowls up at 10; you’ll be fine. And remember these are all worst case scenarios.

You clearly don't do much motorway driving on a bank holiday weekend.

We are going away and I know I will get caught up in traffic for Leeds festival. Luckily, I don't have a flight to catch.

The M5 can be a nightmare in August at the best of times. I know.

We’ve just come off the M5 at Chievely and the motorway is really quiet, so much so I commented on it to DH!

To be fair I’ve been going here for a decade. Never, ever had this issue before.

Respectfully OP, if you are this worried about traffic that you left ample time to get to the airport, then you really should have booked this appointment on an earlier day. Just like with traffic, stuff happens. What about if your hairdresser came down with a sudden illness? You would have no time to find something else.

You gave yourself unnecessary grief.

You clearly know nothing about travelling on the M5 at any time let alone a Bank Holiday weekend. Journey time can easily be doubled. It has happened to us more than once.

2 options:

1. Miss your flight, but hair cut.
2. Catch your flight without hair being cut

I work full time. They were fully booked apart from this slot.

option 3. Hold tight and not panic (which I assume she is doing). She has planned for delays, and it’s paying off. She still has time, even counting in further delays.

You're panicking at 8:53 in the morning because your hairdresser is running late and you have a flight at 7pm and it takes 2 hours or 4 at the most to get to the airport!! What a drama queen! Next time don't book an appointment on the day you are due to catch a flight if you're an excessively anxious person.
