To think.that people continuing to put up tatty flags on lamposts are imposing on communities?
There are people putting them up again near roads. They hang by a thread eventually causing a clear hazard. It looks disrespectful and costs money to make safe. And the intention looks less and less like they give a fig for anyone especially in diverse places.
Everywhere has a civic hub where flags are flown properly at the proper time.

That's the issue because council resources are then re diverted from things that really need doing. No party has a flag raising maintaining elected mandate as far as I'm aware- ie permission to spend taxpayers money.

Well I'd rather the volunteers diverted their efforts into the areas you mentioned for sure.
There seems to be a lot of pro Israel.activists on here Hi guys. I'm just talking about the majority of UK flags as I've not really seen Israeli ones or Palestinian ones on lamposts.

My council is quick to take them down, too. They usually remove them within 48 hours of them being reported.

I haven't seen a flag on a lamp post here for ages, which makes me suggest that those who've been putting them up have got fed up with wasting their money on flags that are only left up for a few days at most. The only ones I've seen in the last few months have been on private property, ie in gardens or on houses.

There are Ukraine flags but often on private dwellings- or sometimes there has been a civic decision to raise one- also the Pride flag - I think that's different: democratically elected bodies taking a transparent decision and it's one flag, alongside the UK or England flag flown properly on a flagpole. They have proper council permissions.
I'm talking about ordinary main roads by schools and shops and organised groups erecting the flags on every lamposts illegally often at night.

Apparently according to Google it's in the region of £30-90 to fill in a pothole.
Just over £1000 per week for care for an elderly person.
That's a years care for 75 elderly people just gone just like that.
Or 750 potholes not repaired.
It's mad.

Yes, they look shit. They are a sure-fire way to tell an area is full of racists, and so to be avoided - I wouldn't buy a house on a flaggy street. We all know the flags are only intended to intimidate ethnic minorities. Patriotism my arse.

There's a protocol that sets out which days the Union flag should be flown from public buildings. I've worked for 4 different councils and each one had someone who was responsible for knowing which days they were. (They had other things to do as well, they weren't appointed just to make decisions about flags!)

Cheap nylon flags dangling halfway up a lamppost? I'm embarrassed by them.

Proper flags flying at the war memorial or on the church tower on St George's Day? No issue. Union flag bunting at a carnival or national celebration? Lovely.

There were a lot of flags up around the world cup, one roundabout still has them up in my town it looks pretty. I can't understand why anyone would have a problem with this. Its not worth getting upset about.

They're lovely quality - have been there for a long while without fraying or tearing.

Why does the sight of dingy, torn flags flapping from one cable tied corner from half way up a lamppost, usually put up by individuals with rather nasty motives, make people happy and proud?

Im going by the roundabout in my town which is loving and tastefully done with quality flags and bunting.

Must be the only one in the country then.
