AIBU to think tatty lampost flags are imposing on communities?

To think.that people continuing to put up tatty flags on lamposts are imposing on communities?
There are people putting them up again near roads. They hang by a thread eventually causing a clear hazard. It looks disrespectful and costs money to make safe. And the intention looks less and less like they give a fig for anyone especially in diverse places.
Everywhere has a civic hub where flags are flown properly at the proper time.

Yep. They look tatty and are put up by idiots who litter.

Those men haven't improved a single community or environment by putting up those flags. I suspect they spend the surplus Go Fund Me / Collection Pot money on beer and takeaways.....

They are inevitably the signifier of a run down & depressed neighbourhood. There must be better uses of energy, such as litter picking, instead of hanging flags that enhance to the sense of general neglect.

All the ones I’ve seen by the coast look well secured and clean.

Think they look quite nice flapping in the wind ocean in the background.

I’ve noticed how filthy and tatty a lot of them look. Problem is if you try and remove then you get mobbed by drunk obese 50 year old bald men with no teef innit?!

I don't think the local green councillors in my area responsible for the flags are known for drinking excessively. they're also great at organising litter picks, so don't think that applies in this case!

The area between south Bristol and the airport has a flag half way up virtually every lampost- I'm embarrassed to think what foreign visitors must think. I hadn't thought about emailing the council until now, I will definitely do that.

Its time for them to come down IMO. Whatever point that was meant to have been made has been made. They are starting to look a bit lame and a bit cringe. I mean how long do these people want to keep doing this ?

Just came back from Dublin and they were all over the place there aswell.
Where we are living it is not just the rundown neighbourhoods that have the union Jacks. I am an immigrant and here is not a significant immigrant community (90% white british) and while I do understand that I am one of the 'problems' it just looks so tacky and I feel like it is disrespectful to the flag. I don't mind a flag on a flag pole or a punting during football, great to be patriotic. Flags with zip ties halfway up the lamppost feels like it is just the opposite of what is the intention.

Nothing says national pride, and I love my country like sticking a st George Cross flag up on a few lampposts then watching it gradually turn grey and frayed and gradually disintegrate into a few red white and grey rags. 🫡

There'll always be an England. God Save the King. Come to think of it I hope the King appreciates all this effort.

Talk to an estate agent, their view is it lowers house prices and many folk won’t even view homes with flags in the road. Unless every home in a road supported the movement then how dare the flag raisers presume to speak for them. This has nothing to do with patriotism and everything to do with intimidation.

People can complain about immigration without being racist, but I assume all neighbourhoods that go to the effort of putting up flags are stuffed to the gills with rabid racists.

Was really pleased to see the tatty faded flags had been taken down from the main roads locally only to be replaced by flags with roaring lions, dragons and reform /restore flags 🤨. Looks cheap and tacky. Nothing to do with pride and patriotism and everything to do with rascist thuggery.

Oh- I've not seen the Lions and Dragons. What Joy! 🙄

I'm more concerned about the amount of flytipping and littering going on and the fact the our local Council doesn't have street cleaners any more.

They look awful on lamp posts and are a signifier of a run down area. They look good on public buildings.

Putting up flags, I think, is illegal. Therefore I guess the people doing it are doing something illegal. It's funny because that doesn't seem to bother those who purport to defend ' our laws'
They mean I think the ones they want to keep.
