To think.that people continuing to put up tatty flags on lamposts are imposing on communities?
There are people putting them up again near roads. They hang by a thread eventually causing a clear hazard. It looks disrespectful and costs money to make safe. And the intention looks less and less like they give a fig for anyone especially in diverse places.
Everywhere has a civic hub where flags are flown properly at the proper time.

I haven't examined all closely but yes they are St George Flags or Union Jacks, mostly the St George I think.

I've not noticed this. Our's are secured and in good condition. They look great.

How can a flag cause a hazard? What money are they spending to make them safe? How are they making them safe?

I do not understand what you are implying.

Last time many of ours were insecurely attached and tore or got tatty looking very quickly. I had to report some on a roundabout bridge because they could have flown off over the main road adjacent or below. Over time they just looked a bit depressing.

I’m far more bothered by all the blocked drains that result in flooding, and also the deep potholes that plague our roads and damage our cars. Councils used to clear the drains but no longer bother, it seems, and as for road repairs 🤷‍♀️

See above. I saw quite a few hanging by a corner in gusts if wind. They could blow across cars. Apart from that they get ragged eventually.
Flags in our country are flown properly. Not haphazardly.

We have one near us which I think some kids put up. I am tempted to cut it down as I when I see aot of flags I assume the area is a bit downmarket

Ours look awful, just frayed,faded limp rags that are coming away. This is why only councils she be hanging flags as opposed to far right extremists.

Write to the council about your worries concerning health and safety.

However, I have never heard of an accident being caused by a tatty flag before. Many accidents are caused by potholes though - now that really is a priority and cause for concern!

Where are the staunch defenders of the England flags? Aren’t they embarrassed by the shoddy condition of their beloved flag that represents their beloved country? It seems not.

The ones round here look awful .. maybe the “patriots” who made such a big deal of putting them up, would like to maintain them.

Well exactly ! But I cannot lie driving round a roundabout over a busy by pass with a large couple of square meters of material flapping towards me just metres away from my car only secured by one corner to the bridge....that's what I saw. I called 999, because I could see how it could unfold. And I saw this in different places more than once

Our council have taken them down and stated they will continue to do so. Only to be flown from allocated flag poles which there are a lot of.

Where I live, they look a right mess. It is a shame that the people who went through such an effort to put them up, seem to not care that they are so tatty looking. You know pride, an all that!

We only have one that I can think of, it's up high and looks well secured

Our tatty little dishrags (they’re ‘ex flags’, not ‘flags’) are also up high and well secured. If they weren’t someone would have taken them down.

In our area people have been up and down streets with traffic and they are high up but not secure, ( though they appeared so at first) probably hundreds of them, consequently can blow off and downwards right onto cars.

I visited my home town last month, and on the drive from the airport I was shocked to see the faded, ripped flags on every lamppost, it looked awful and really brought the area down. What were people thinking!

She’s probably driven down my road and seen ours. They do make the area look like it’s been abandoned and no one cares. She is correct with her comment.

I totally agree they look "common" and would definitely put me off buying a house in that area

It doesn’t help that they always look as if they are at half mast, because the hangers’ ladders are not long enough.

The ones near me have gone all thread-bear and look tatty. Not only that half the Union Flags have been hung upside down. They made a big song and dance as they were putting them up, even taking donations from people in the process only to leave them to rot. I expect more from so-called patriots who apparently love our country and flag. It was all a show.

I agree. Round here it's the pro Palestinian flags hanging in tatters from the lamp posts which cause an unsightly mess. Coupled with the Gaza graffiti murals on hoardings, a pleasant sight it is not. What can be done? Our Jewish communities have written to the local council to explain how they are intimidating and aggressive, but were informed nothing could be done as many of the murals are on private land, although road facing!
