AIBU to feel fed up with my husband on holiday?

My god I need to vent! On holiday, OH just cannot come around in the mornings. I know it’s supposed to be a holiday for everyone but how much sleep does one person need? Technically the kids aren’t up so he doesn’t need to be but it’s hard to find a man attractive that needs 10 hours sleep every night and that sets an alarm to sleep through! He also would be upset to miss breakfast (I wouldn’t) so I’m making sure he’s up (I know I should leave him but I can’t stand the grumbling if I didn’t)

And if he tells me he’s sweating and red hot one more time so help me god! Constantly telling us what food he’s had like we can’t see.

I don’t like him, being this close has made that more obvious 😭

If he asks me if I’m having a nice time is it cruel to say no?

OP posts:

How long have you been together? I'd do him a favour and leave him. You obviously have so much contempt for him.

TaraRhu · 22/08/2026 10:11

it's not your responsibility to walk him up. Just leave him to it. I love 10h sleep and why should gr he have it if he's on holiday? Nothing stopping you just getting on with it. It's get up do your thing.

Favouritefruits · 22/08/2026 10:11

Holidays are what you make them, just go and have a nice quiet breakfast by yourself and enjoy the peace and quiet! It’s your holiday too

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 09:47

You’re right. I just needed to vent. The problem is he lied about who he was. He pretended to be into all sorts of things like activities and keeping busy.

Did you meet before you married?

ClairDeLaLune · 22/08/2026 10:14

I’m with you OP, that would drive me mad. My husband sleeps a lot more than I do, it’s me that has the alarm on but normally I’m awake, I just use it to get him out of bed. At least he does get up. I’m a lot more active than him too, but I deal with that by seeing a lot of other people and doing active stuff with them.

The worrying thing here is that you say you don’t like him. What are you going to do about this? Are you staying together for the kids? How old are they? I think you need to address this part of the problem.

Rocknrollstar · 22/08/2026 10:14

i avoid holidays with DH. A few nights away is all we do together. When I holiday without him I am a different person. Sad but true.

ThatBreezyScroller · 22/08/2026 10:16

You should not be waking him up, you are not his mummy and if he can't wake up to his alarm then that's on him.

As long as no kids need looking after then he can spend the entire day sleeping if he wants to.

I am not sure why you think you are superior to the rest of your family just because you are not able to sleep for as long.

sunsettosunrise · 22/08/2026 10:17

I find I sleep longer on holiday but that is because I work 47 weeks a year in a ft job. My body needs time to recover when I am on holiday.

Unless he is sleeping in until midday yabu, you can always go out on your own.

Makebelieveanotherlife · 22/08/2026 10:18

Marroon · 22/08/2026 08:50

Why would he miss breakfast if the children aren’t even awake yet?
Honestly it would annoy me if my spouse was like you and arbitrarily waking me on holiday.
Whats wrong with more than 10 hours sleep on a holiday for god sake?

i agree. If we’re on holiday then we are on holiday, sleeping in lazy mornings. If the kids are sleeping, then you can bet i will be too.

AggroPotato · 22/08/2026 10:18

I think OP is getting a hard time here.

The main point is, he's setting an alarm which wakes her up but doesn't wake him up. Then moans because he's missed breakfast as if that is somehow her fault.

Infuriating behaviour.

He sounds like a manchild and the OP sounds like she's had enough.

Exactly. Competitive sleeper 🤣

SarBe · 22/08/2026 10:19

Your poor husband, likely sleeping to avoid your ranting!

Bedroomdilemmas113 · 22/08/2026 10:19

You’re saying he’s lazy and sleeps too much but also saying his alarm is waking you up. So this suggests you are also sleeping?

I wake up at 6am most days without fail and no matter how hard I try. I long for a lie in but my body just doesn’t agree with me. If my husband set an alarm to get up before breakfast closes, then slept through it, it wouldn’t wake me up because I would already be awake…

Dontlletmedownbruce · 22/08/2026 10:20

Leave him alone and go enjoy yourself. If kids are still sleeping then you can leave all of them and he is on duty til you return. Yes constantly complaining about the heat is annoying but to be fair some people really suffer in the heat. Who chose the destination? This is relevant. In the past when dh pushed a destination that I feared would be too hot and got shut down, I reminded him every single day, and said no to lots of things on account of the heat so he wouldn't turn around and persuade me that it had been a great holiday. I think you are being unfair on the sleep thing, he is obviously exhausted and needs this.

My dh drives me mad on holiday too so you are not alone there. Just get some time separate and tolerate him when you need to. Some people aren't at their best on holiday, others are.

newchaptermummy · 22/08/2026 10:23

Do your husband a favour and leave him, I am confused why you’re with him if you’re anonymously posting about how much you don’t like him? From what you have posted I think are being very unreasonable. If you’re the only one awake then get up and do as you please - why should everyone else work to your schedule on holiday? Even the kids aren’t awake! My husband could sleep for England but he works extremely hard so I would just get me and little one ready and leave him to rest. It’s no big deal! The other points about complaining he is hot and talking about dinner are very normal things. Can you just imagine if a bloke wrote a post like this about his wife 🤦🏼‍♀️

Or, he aged and changed like everyone does.

Leave the poor bastard alone

Loads of people talk about how active they are. They talk a really good talk ……but the three stone of extra weight and the way they huff and puff at walking pace tell the real story. Were there clues in the case of your partner?

I was on his side until I read this. I was also catfished into falling for a man who supposedly loved exploring, excursions, activities both at home and on holiday.

As he has got older the is less keen to maintain the lie, barely leaves the house, and is happy to never leave the resort on holiday. I wish he had told me the truth rather than being someone he wasn't for 20 years, as it's a shock to adjust now.

I just do stuff without him at home and, on holiday, we balance between active and chilling. The difference is that you are saying you don't like him, rather than him just irritating you. Is it something you can talk about and get past or have you had enough and want out?

Still think that there is nothing wrong with 10hours sleep on holiday though. Just don't wake him and he will have to learn. If he doesn't, then he misses out.

Like pretended last week? Or pretended when you started dating him? Because you can't possibly judge a person who has kids on what they thought they would be like when they were younger. He probably thought you would be a kind and tolerant wife and look where that got him.

Skyflier · 22/08/2026 10:26

If your kids are still asleep do you call them lazy too. You sound awful. I suspect it’s probably deeper than this post but if you dislike him so much then leave him to sleep and go be popular and wonderful around other people!!

DangerousAlchemy · 22/08/2026 10:27

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 09:36

It’s not. He’s fat and lazy. Anyone sleeping 10+ hours on holiday (whilst setting an alarm that wakes their non fat / non lazy partner up) is selfish.

Wow!! You sound like a real delight. I'd rather be fat and a nice person than thin and a bitch!

BitOutOfPractice · 22/08/2026 10:27

Itsa10fromLen · 22/08/2026 09:34

Fuck me reading comprehension skills need a little work. He is literally setting an alarm and sleeping through it. He would be upset to miss breakfast. He is sleeping 10+ hours. I don’t care if he’s on holiday, it’s lazy to sleep that long every night even on holiday. I don’t care if that offends you. If you’ve found someone that thinks you aren’t lazy for sleeping that long on holiday every night, hang onto them because it’s crazy.

Ah now we see it! Were you expecting everyone to agree?

because tbh I love sleeping in (and staying Up late) on holiday. I even love a siesta too. Am I lazy? No!! I get up early every week day, I work hard, I exercise hard, I play hard.

so on holiday I like to sleep and laze and generally slob around.

I don’t care if that offends you. If you’ve found someone that thinks you aren’t crazy for not sleeping that long on holiday every night, hang onto them because it’s perfectly sensible.

The reason the sleeping is pissing you off is because you don’t like him. Not the other way round.

Howsyoudoing · 22/08/2026 10:27

I would carry on with my holiday like he is not their

You weren't catfished, he just isn't the same man you met 20 years ago.

People change.
You can choose to stay or leave.

Random321 · 22/08/2026 10:32

It's his holiday too!

People sleep when they need it.

If someone was trying to wake me up early on my holiday, it would do my head in.

Holidays are meant to be relaxing!

Your level of contempt for him is something he can't be unaware of. I'd sleep too to avoid you.
