Someone named their daughter Dusty dove.

And another named their son lucifer. Also twins named Reggie and Ronnie.

These are people I actually know

ChickenBananaBanana · 22/08/2026 08:43

Personally I dislike cutesy old man names, eg Albie, Alfie, Archie etc. but I know plenty of boys called them

I was at a farm park place in Devon last month and heard a mum call her children over - "Cleopatra, Odin, it's time for lunch" 🤣

bloblob · 22/08/2026 08:45

Ptolemy and Persephone

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/08/2026 08:47

I don’t like it when nice names have a butchered spelling. No need, just awful. I know an Aalivyah (work it out, lol) - wtaf!

Coinkidinki · 22/08/2026 08:49

Oh, dear - this is going to be one of those threads where people sneer at names from demographics or cultures they perceive as inferior.

Why does your DD need a list of 'the worst names'? Why not post some names she is considering and get people's opinions?

If you're naming your baby, it seems an odd way to go about it - take every single possible name and start crossing off those that Mumsnetters don't like.

HRTQueen · 22/08/2026 08:56

Whatever your dd names her children people will have an opinion on

mu mum was ridiculed for her choice of a silly name for me when I was a baby now I’m often told it’s a lovely name

i like my name

TheOnlyWayIsIlford · 22/08/2026 08:59

Bertleflump
Pantye
Gorfy
Urulututu

Katemax82 · 22/08/2026 09:00

Misspelled names are the worst (like Rubi)

AhBiscuits · 22/08/2026 09:01

I went through a stage of wanting to call my child Satine.

no prizes for guessing what film I had watched.

BunkBedsArePeopleShelves · 22/08/2026 09:02

I was recently introduced to a baby Lolita.

I also know a toddler called Barry and a child called Methuselah.

People are fucking weird.

Gardenisablooming · 22/08/2026 09:03

Heard a dm screaming Jamiraqui in Poundland in Wales years ago.
Poor kid

AbzMoz · 22/08/2026 09:04

Worst names for me are associated with people who were AH in the past. Sorry to babies named Sara, Jocelyn, Ben and Dean - your namesakes have spoiled it!

I love the name Odin. My best friend is called Odin/Odie. Not that unusual!

The toddler called Barry willl for most of his life be a man called Barry, and no one would think it odd if you said you met a man called Barry the other day.

I’d prefer people named their children “adult” names, rather than the cutesy trends we have at the minute because a man named Barry is less cringey than a man named Freddie or Alfie.

A 40 plus man called Barry is not odd. A 20 year old would be odd, and a young man in 25 years called Barry will be odder still.

What an unpleasant thread.
Are you really trying to make people feel bad about their own names or the names they have chosen for their children? How would you like it if a lot of pp came onto the thread and dissed your name or your children's,

LimpRat · 22/08/2026 09:12

Becky (because all of the ones I've got to know are horrible people for some reason) not saying they all are but it's ruined it

Boring dog names (Sam/Tom/Jack/Ollie et al)

Any fucking game of thrones or similar name.

SkyLark79 · 22/08/2026 09:12

All the ones that sound like surnames. Cooper, Tanner, Taylor etc. just no! X

Hurbifore · 22/08/2026 09:12

If you live in Shetland Odin is not that unusual, along with some other fabulous viking names.

People frequently react negatively to one of my kids names irl, I'm an adult, I can deal with people's meaningless opinions :-)

Kinda agree. I do think some names on this thread, for example Lucifer, are fair game. It is a banned name in some countries for a reason. But Freddie? Really? I've met plenty of adult Freds and Freddies and it never crossed my mind that anything was wrong with the name.
