Asking on behalf of DD who is expecting. What are in your view the worst girl and boy names. for me they are the made up ones like Nevaeh and Jayden

Why do you presume that someone would want to change the name by which they've been known for years? If you've been "Libby" all your life why would you suddenly become Elizabeth? Why would Libby not suit anymore? You're only ever a day older than yesterday...

I did see a reel recently by a mum referring to her children as Renalia, Oreobella and Hero. I like flowery and unusual names but this was too frilly for me!

I always cringe when I hear Max or Bella, they’re dog names to me.

and when someone calls their son Jackson, I always assume they’re going to be a wrong un.

I really dislike Christopher but like Chris. Joshua and Luke i can handle just about but Joshie and Lukey make my teeth itch. Can't bare the names Jane and Marina.

There is a woman in my town named Pocahontas. Just plain cruel imo. Have also met a toddler named Thor.

God yeah! DC has to have lifetime intensive therapy because a handful of unimportant people quizzed a name they haven't heard of before.

Obviously kids have no resilience whatsoever. No attachment to the name us parents gave them with love, which suits them, their friends don't blink an eye at and which they personally like, use since birth and don't want to change or use nicknames for.. Such lack of resilience. It's a burden! Terrible parenting!.etc etc

For absolutely no reason whatsoever I have always hated the name Nathaniel! My sons best friend is called Nathaniel so I've heard it loads over the years and I've still not got used to it!
I don't think there's a girls name i feel so much hate towards. I have a friend with a daughter called Penelope, nicknamed Nelly and think that's an ugly name for a child. Her other daughter is Iris and I think thats a really pretty name in comparison.

People do though. They might have a sudden realisation 'I'm an adult now and I want a grown-up name on my diploma/marriage certificate/office door'.

I loathe the pretentious names as much as the made up, trouble maker ones. My pet peeve is when people ask for names suggestions on here and posters run off a stream of Shakespearean and mythological names (when they weren't asked for). I always ask why Goneril or Hephaestus are missing from the list 😂

Their name will be the same age as they are. Equally as grown up! But, as a pp said, there's nothing to stop anyone using a longer form of a name, in the same way as others use a shortened form

I don't know where you're from but I can assure you that Barry is a very unusual name for small children where I come from. Like Nigel and Alan. They're all at least 40.

"Bear" is also common in Europe - as Björn/Bjørn/Bjorn in Scandinavia, Netherlands and Germany, and Urs in Switzerland. Ursula is the feminine form (Ursula Andress, Ursula von der Leyen, Ursula in The Little Mermaid).
