Aren't all names made up? 🤔

NoHotGirlsInHell · 22/08/2026 10:25

florabelle has to be the worst I’ve heard in a girl.

Countdown to 'Chlamydia' and 'Ladasha' starts.... NOW!

Wasn't it 'La-A'?

I was recently introduced to a baby Lolita.

I also know a toddler called Barry and a child called Methuselah.

People are fucking weird.

I like all those!! I think Barry should make a come back.

Worst names for me are associated with people who were AH in the past. Sorry to babies named Sara, Jocelyn, Ben and Dean - your namesakes have spoiled it!

What is AH?

What an unpleasant thread.
Are you really trying to make people feel bad about their own names or the names they have chosen for their children? How would you like it if a lot of pp came onto the thread and dissed your name or your children's,

Yeah but it’s fun though!

I give you - Chardonnai. Classy spelling, huh?

Howsyoudoing · 22/08/2026 10:30

Humphrey and Barnaby someone I know named their sons

I wanted to call our children Gulliver and Ramona. DH thought I'd lost the plot.

Ramona is a lovely name. It’s the name of the actor who played Karen in Outnumbered. She is Ramona Marquez which is a super-cool name.

Friend named her son Barnaby. He was born during the local festival of that name. I love it.

SerafinasGoose · 22/08/2026 10:34

I’m not fond of diminutives or nicknames used as full given names.

Caitlin is very often mispronounced. I really dislike Willow.

I’m sure plenty of people also wouldn’t like my own or DC’s name. I’m not about to lose any sleep.

Unicorntearsofgin · 22/08/2026 10:34

Hormones must have sent me a bit mad as I decided Lucifer was a beautiful name for DS just after he was born. I still think it’s a nice name but there is no escaping the connotations and luckily I came to my senses and gave him a very normal name.

Disappointedlama · 22/08/2026 10:34

The made up ones or weird spellings of normal names are obvious.

Personally I don’t like cutesy versions of names as given names (Alfie, Teddy, Libby etc.). In most cases they won’t age well. Just put Alfred, Theodore or Elizabeth on the birth certificate and give the child the option to use the version that suits them as they grow.

If a person called Theodore can use Teddy and alternative name.... then a person called Teddy can use Theodore....

I came across a Typhanie once, it took me a while to figure it out.

Someone named their daughter Dusty dove.

And another named their son lucifer. Also twins named Reggie and Ronnie.

These are people I actually know

I am surprised it’s not illegal to name someone Lucifer

Cliffotlist for a girl and Cliffstopher for a boy.

If it’s a girl - Phoebe. If it’s a boy - Phoebo.

People frequently react negatively to one of my kids names irl, I'm an adult, I can deal with people's meaningless opinions :-)

But can your child?

DJKATIE · 22/08/2026 10:40

Any surnames used as first names, like Jackson, Cooper, Carter etc and names with an added bit in front, ie Aidan is a lovely name but when Jay or Kay is added to make Jaidan or Kaidan it sounds stupid to me.
