They are too close to "mucus ' for me

Countdown to 'Chlamydia' and 'Ladasha' starts.... NOW!

dreamingofgoodhair · 22/08/2026 09:16

Each parent has their own taste. I’m sure your daughter will choose a name that suits her child and hopefully no one will be horrible enough to sneer at her.

Sweetdreamsbeautifulnightmare · 22/08/2026 09:18

Normal names spelled ridiculously so they’re near enough impossible to get right and suggest their parents are a bit thick!
I dislike the names Wayne and Ian, I knew a paedo called Wayne and it’s all I think of.
I also really don’t like the name Theresa, not sure why just think it’s horrible and also Teri for a girl!

I like names such as Jesse for a boy or girl, older names like Rosa and Mabel and also Kit!

People frequently react negatively to one of my kids names irl, I'm an adult, I can deal with people's meaningless opinions :-)

Well good for you. Does your child also deal
with it?

A lot of people are very sensitive about names. And quite rightly because, like it or not, what someone is named influences others perception of them and their reaction to them and their expectations of them.

LimpRat · 22/08/2026 09:15

Yes this is my reason! The girls I just think sound stupid.

Gloriousgardener11 · 22/08/2026 09:21

Girl - Angel
Boy - Chance

HearHareHere · 22/08/2026 09:22

I REALLY wanted to name my son Sylvan. Husband was dead against however so we went for a more traditional name. I also wondered about Corvid (as in the family of the crow species) but it was too close to Covid both in sound and time 😜
I know this isn’t really what the OP asked though 😎but I agree with PP that these threads always descend into snobbery 😬

Why doesn’t your DD do her own research instead of getting you to post this distasteful thread.

ZippyGeorgeandBungle2 · 22/08/2026 09:23

I have a weird hatred for names beginning with C. Connor, Callum, Courtney & Caitlin are ones I can’t stand for some reason! (I know it’s strange & sorry to anyone who has those names)

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 22/08/2026 09:23

It is valid to ask about a specific name that you (or your DD) are considering. People can give honest opinions, which mostly won’t be said in RL. But this is just an opportunity to sneer at names.

FWIW, I’m an ex teacher, and every Jayden I taught was lovely.

TheWonderhorse · 22/08/2026 09:25

All my kids have Welsh names, which for me straddle the traditional and different pretty well.

I hate the name Richard.

I like names that are spelled correctly. I don't think names are anywhere near as important as they seem, there are no names of anyone that are jarring once you get to know a person a bit. They just become the word for that person, don't they?

Witchergeralt · 22/08/2026 09:25

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 22/08/2026 09:11

What an unpleasant thread.
Are you really trying to make people feel bad about their own names or the names they have chosen for their children? How would you like it if a lot of pp came onto the thread and dissed your name or your children's,

This!
Each to their own, you don't have to like it, as long as they like it that's all that matters.

Floppyearedlab · 22/08/2026 09:27

Any silly diminutive ending in ‘ie’

Fern26 · 22/08/2026 09:31

Everyone has different taste on names.

I can’t see how this thread is helpful to your daughter.

DeanGaffneysCumFace · 22/08/2026 09:32

Cliffotlist for a girl and Cliffstopher for a boy.

PrettyLittleRose · 22/08/2026 09:35

Oh yeah my neighbour's little boy is called Plopalotafuckatit. Unusual but exotic dontcha think?

musicandmen · 22/08/2026 09:35

I hate when people change the spelling from the traditional spelled to be cool
I hate double barrelled names. Especially ones that don’t go together/flow

I tip I was given (my child had no name for 4 days) name the man/women not a baby. It’s all well and good given the baby a cute name but they are gonna grow into a teenager and adult and have to have this name for life.

I wanted some horrendous name in my post child birth hormonal state and I am very glad now that my husband said no!!

PointedFirs · 22/08/2026 09:42

I absolutely loathe the name George, but I don’t think any parents of Georges are going to be crying into their tea because of it.

oviraptor21 · 22/08/2026 09:43

My uncle, who would be 100 if he was still alive, was a Freddie. Lovely name.
