Rise in male posters…

loverrrr · 22/08/2026 08:02

Ive been on mumsnet about 6 years now & over the last 6 months or so Ive really noticed a massive rise in male posters, or at least posters who call out that they are male.
Has anyone else noticed this & does anyone have an opinion to discuss?
My opinion is probably that I would prefer this to be a female only site & I usually skip over any posters or responses that are obviously male. I understand I dont own the site though, and anyone is free to post!

Feel the same and skip away from the posts and threads of males. But only if they mention they are male. Probs loads that don't mention it too!

Wingingit73 · 22/08/2026 08:05

I agree.

Coinkidinki · 22/08/2026 08:07

I haven't particularly noticed a rise in posters who state they are male (been here about 10 years myself).

Sometimes male posters can be helpful, sometimes not - like any posters.

It's annoying when they barge onto threads with their own 'man here!' fanfare as if that made their perspective more important, but they're not all like that. They don't always announce their sex, and I only know because I recognise a username from previous threads where it was relevant and mentioned.

It's unrealistic to make the site female only, attempts to police it would compromise anonymity.

Thestealer · 22/08/2026 08:09

Yeah and most of them are just here to troll.

moonraker0 · 22/08/2026 08:10

I think there’s always been men on here it’s just now they are starting a post by saying that they are male. Personally I don’t have a problem with it and I can’t see how MN or any site would be able to police a female only forum.

NeelyOHara · 22/08/2026 08:13

I wish they’d stay away, they have the whole internet. You can always tell, the way that they dominate and hector other posters. Some people seem to love having them here though.

Tattle appears to be mainly women and has some nice, interesting subjects being discussed without big dicks sticking their oars in. It’s famous for discussing influencers but I don’t go on those threads as I don’t know how any of them are.

Stormyrose · 22/08/2026 08:15

Doesn’t bother me and impossible to make this a female only site, how on earth would they confirm that,

ErrolTheDragon · 22/08/2026 08:17

I’ve not noticed a rise in the number of males, and I’ve been on here for (!) about 20 years. It’s never been an all women site despite its name - it’s always had the tagline ‘by parents, for parents’ - and obviously it’s not restricted to parents either.

As has always been the case, some are here in good faith, some are trolling and some are just blokes who don’t realise when they should sometimes butt out.

Shedmistress · 22/08/2026 08:18

There was a longish discussion about this on the FWR board, as to whether men should declare they are men in their user names or not, as a few were annoyed they'd assumed posters were female and so a few of the chaps amended their user names to make it clearer they were men.

I don't have a problem with male posters posting here at all. There are some regular male posters who frequently contribute intelligent, insightful, informative and/or amusing posts, and as far as I'm concerned, they're more than welcome here.

I'm not interested in posts from willy-waving misogynistic twats who feel the need to announce their maleness when it bears no relevance to anything, simply because they believe it confers some special value. It doesn't, and we don't care. But I think they're the minority, generally.

Lifesyoungdream · 22/08/2026 08:22

I’ve noticed an increase in male poster on here and I have been on Mumsnet a long time. I don’t tend to read their posts not really interested. This site is called Mumsnet not Parentsnet.

LavenderSweetPea · 22/08/2026 08:29

I'm always surprised how many posters on Mumsnet aren't parents, or wanting to be parents tbh. There was a thread the other day about why would you bother having children and many posters were saying they definitely didn't want children - a valid choice, but what are you doing on Mumsnet?

Branleuse · 22/08/2026 08:33

I don't see a huge rise. I think it still is very much majority women.
Doesn't bother me unless they clearly just want to troll women and be picks about it.

Also doesn't bother me about childfree women, because it isn't really a parenting forum, and I don't think it has been for a long time.

IndestructibleRubberplants · 22/08/2026 08:34

I'll make an exception for a Dad who is posting for parenting advice otherwise I'd prefer men didn't post. I also wonder if the increase in aggressive responses that many have commented on is a direct result of increase in male members?

Edited

Most of MN discussions aren't really about children or parenting in any case. I first came here with a query about my dd around 17 years ago, but that isn't why I am still here!

There is even a dedicated board for childfree posters so they are more than welcome here too.

EasternStandard · 22/08/2026 08:42

I don’t mind a few but prefer mn to remain majority female. It’s a good place on the internet that isn’t overrun by men.

There’s a one or two I swerve but up to them to post or not

BendyDickCumbInMySnatch · 22/08/2026 08:45

The only male allowed in here is pigletjohn - to help with my plumbing 😂

theendofthesummer · 22/08/2026 08:46

@LavenderSweetPea i am mixed on this. I think that there are numerous discussions on political / current events and books and TV shows and general chat that don’t matter in the slightest if you are a parent or not.

What I don’t like is the childfree by choice board (sorry.) I do feel quite strongly it has caused a significant sort of seismic shift on here and has permeated into the boards generally. I now see threads created by struggling mums taken over with comments like ‘so glad I chose not to have kids’, lots of horrible comments about ‘brats’ and the like for things that are totally normal developmental stages.

It just means the boards generally are not tolerant of children and that’s bizarre for a place called Mumsnet.

PhotoDad · 22/08/2026 08:47

I joined MN years ago, as my DW suggested I could usefully contribute to a couple of threads (about photography and cameras, as it happens!)

I tend to post with this username for continuity (I have come to know some lovely people on a couple of the boards and long-running cohort support threads), but for one-off replies where my background isn't relevant I also have a gender-neutral username. When the question of male posters has arisen before, opinion seems completely split between thinking that's dishonest, or thinking it's just like any other namechange.

Lexibletheflexible · 22/08/2026 08:48

I don't mind men being present but we need to watch out for the misogynistic ones who attack women who disagree with them. It can feel good when a man agrees with you, but still watch how he responds to other women who challenge him. Does he immediately start calling names and swearing at them? Telling them their experiences of womanhood are invalid?

Is his wife elsewhere on the interent revealing his abusive past?

daisyydaisyy · 22/08/2026 08:48

I’ve been on mumsnet on and off for over 10 years and it was a problem back then too. Their threads are always annoying and I tend to skip them.

I generally took their announcement to mean that we may not want to listen to their view because they’re a man so they’re warning us, or offering a different perspective from a man’s POV. So it doesn’t bother me.

Funny how we all see things so differently.
