Rise in male posters…

Ive been on mumsnet about 6 years now & over the last 6 months or so Ive really noticed a massive rise in male posters, or at least posters who call out that they are male.
Has anyone else noticed this & does anyone have an opinion to discuss?
My opinion is probably that I would prefer this to be a female only site & I usually skip over any posters or responses that are obviously male. I understand I dont own the site though, and anyone is free to post!

I have seen far FAR worse things said (by men) on internet forums and message boards about women. Real nasty fucked up stuff. The things women say about men on here is tame compared to some shit I see men say about women on other message boards.

Noone on here is threatening rape and/or murder on men but there's numerous sites on reddit for this on reddit.

It's really not the same at all and I have 2 adult sons who are the best people in the world to me so I'm no man hater.

This is my point exactly: when women on MN say the same things about men as the incels on Reddit say about women, what's sauce for the goose...

Yes, there are a lot of truly nasty men out there. If you're happy for MN to set the bar just a little above their standards and be hardly any better than they are, then fine... I guess.

I think there are many similarities between certain posters here and 4chan incels..they even share similar ideas about the world and relationships.

But, as always, if anybody comes on and disagrees that all men are shit, they're mocked with NAMALT, "Ooh, not my Nigel" and the others. I don't personally frequent the fora where all the toxic misogynists are reported to lurk, but I can guess that they probably similarly deride anybody who dares to suggest that all women are NOT shit as delusional or "You must be one of them" etc.

Are you really telling me that on MN when someone writes you’ve never had any inclination about them at all ever? You’ve never suspected a reverse? If a man came on to write about something in his relationship or something that has happened from
his perspective and if he didn’t say his sex but you’ve never thought “hmm but…” due to your own experience. I’m not saying I could tell the sex of someone even most of the time, but sometimes, due to the ignorance of the poster not knowing what’s giving them away, it is obvious, because you’re not stupid. Sex trolls are usually very obvious.

We can’t talk about trolling here but if you go on MN Trolls on Reddit you’ll see where people can talk more openly about why they suspect posts are fake, there will be numbers of threads there explaining why someone isn’t who they say they are and why. Sex of the poster often comes up.

I don’t mind men posting. There are the annoying ‘relationship advice needed’ ones that inevitably boil down to some toerag whose wife is clearly burdened with the domestic load and all he can think about is his dick, but they usually get their arse handed to them anyway.

Overall I’m glad for decent men who want to come and chat with the badasses of mumsnet.

They also talk about the ridiculous assumptions people make about posters, such as assuming they are a man because they have a different opinion to the usual user base.

I've not noticed this. I presume there will be some boards/threads they're more interested in than others. And I assume the threads I read / participate in aren't as popular with blokes.

I haven't noticed it, but this is a parenting website and 50% of parents are male

I've been accused of being a man, when I've disagreed with others on here. But I was defo born with, and still have, a vag, so... I think 'You're clearly a man.' is a go-to insult when disagreeing.

I’m an old timer coming back. Was here a lot during the baby / toddler years of my children (13/15yeats old) then had a long break.

I’ve been back about a year and I was honestly shocked about the amount of male posters.

i must admit I slightly judge a man who’s spending his free time reading about what women’s are currently worrying about whether it be menopause, a cheating husband, child not going to sleep, what’s everyone wearing today, how can I get my libido back after children. Often I think they stick there 2 pennies in without being asked.

there was one last week was actually quite aggressive towards a woman who had just found out her husband had been visiting brothels saying she would never understand the urges a man gets inside. John something I think.

im not against men but I miss the old Mumsnet when it felt more nurturing, helpful, kinder, less political.

Oh yeah the influx started much longer ago. Awash with menz trolls. They have a gang and do shifts some of 'em, sad fuckers. 😂 mn hq don't care as long as they drive traffic to the site. I never have but even in my hour of need I would NEVER use this site for advice or support any more.

They think they disguise themselves well but they really, truly don't. It's a shame but that's (LOTS of) men for ya. Jealous of women. Pity them really.

When I suspect man I don’t call people out on it, it’s not some kind of low blow to win an argument, I close the thread as I am not interested in men on MN. I won’t feed it.

Mumnset HQ have made it clear that all are welcome. Not sure why they named the site mumsnet if it is not for mums, but anyway... I can't imagine being childfree and joining a site called Mumsnet, it wouldn't even occur to me. I also can't imagine dating a man who posts on here. It would be a turn off frankly.
