Rise in male posters…

loverrrr · 22/08/2026 08:02

Ive been on mumsnet about 6 years now & over the last 6 months or so Ive really noticed a massive rise in male posters, or at least posters who call out that they are male.
Has anyone else noticed this & does anyone have an opinion to discuss?
My opinion is probably that I would prefer this to be a female only site & I usually skip over any posters or responses that are obviously male. I understand I dont own the site though, and anyone is free to post!

My husband listens to Womans Hour. How dare he.

I don’t think you have understood the point tbh

it isn’t about listening to, it’s about interfering in. I read Black MNetters but I am not black. What I don’t do is wade in to give my input and opinion. It’s that which is somewhat unwanted by some of us.

CruCru · 22/08/2026 08:52

Honestly? It’s worth bearing in mind that it isn’t possible to know who anyone is when they post on here. Most of the posters (women and men) are pretty normal, a few are nuts and some others are just here to stir up trouble.

Listening to something you cannot interrupt or dominate is different to contributing to it.

To be fair, they might as well rename that 'Men's Hour'.

Same. My kids are half Black but I am not, so I read everything there but don't contribute.

How is that the same

Sex board

Yep, the sex board is crawling with men. To the point where there have been threads that seem to just be a bunch of men talking to each other. Presumably they are hoping that a few of the middle aged women who are very cross about parking might drop in.

EasternStandard · 22/08/2026 08:58

Now I think of it there are a few male posters who are more measured and post info that is useful (I usually read the aero stuff for example), as a small proportion of the overall site I don’t mind that

Although I’m not sure if they are male now I think on it more

I generally took their announcement to mean that we may not want to listen to their view because they’re a man so they’re warning us, or offering a different perspective from a man’s POV. So it doesn’t bother me.

Funny how we all see things so differently.

I think there are times when the sex of the poster is relevant, and I have no issue with posters declaring it in those circumstances. I'm talking more about the ones who announce it for no good reason!

Knickerbockermisery · 22/08/2026 09:02

I’m not against male posters, but only when they don’t try to pretend they are women.

There was a post yesterday where one commenters username was clearly trying to identify themselves as female (like “MrsH”), but based on the posts they made, it was so clear it was just an angry little man with nothing better to do. It is pitiful really that they have the time on their hands, but it’s a problem as it does derail what are sometimes , as in that case, important discussions.

Greenlawnbrownlawn · 22/08/2026 09:06

Sorry but MN has never been a "female only" site, and unfortunately while I agree that there are some very obvious male posters who can be easily skipped there are no shortage of female posters who delight in posting the most vile, argumentative and disgusting rubbish that I'm equally happy to swerve.

IberianLynx · 22/08/2026 09:16

It is very topic dependent. Agree that the sex topic is a waste of time if you want a genuine discussion as it is populated by men’s offerings. Unfortunately they often pop up to enlighten us in 'relationships’ too. Nothing mn can do though! If I wanted a man’s input on these issues I would use somewhere like Reddit where there is more of a mix and less of a concentration of male sex pests.

HoppityBun · 22/08/2026 09:19

Coinkidinki · 22/08/2026 08:07

I haven't particularly noticed a rise in posters who state they are male (been here about 10 years myself).

Sometimes male posters can be helpful, sometimes not - like any posters.

It's annoying when they barge onto threads with their own 'man here!' fanfare as if that made their perspective more important, but they're not all like that. They don't always announce their sex, and I only know because I recognise a username from previous threads where it was relevant and mentioned.

It's unrealistic to make the site female only, attempts to police it would compromise anonymity.

I don’t see the “man here” as a fanfare. I think it’s considerate that on a mostly female site, a male poster makes clear that he’s male. Otherwise the assumption would be that he’s female. I usually appreciate the point of view.

Igmum · 22/08/2026 09:20

I have mixed feelings. In my head Mumsnet is a women only site and I feel really comfortable with that. It’s always a surprise when I find out some posters are men. But there are some excellent male posters. Pigletjohn on anything to do with household repairs, prh47bridge on legal, BezMills (BezMark?) and SingleSexSpacesinSchools on FWR. So men in moderation. I don’t like the ones who storm into threads with ‘man’s perspective here’ but I agree they are best ignored. What does concern me is the threatening trans women who regularly come to FWR. One - now banned - had posted elsewhere threatening corrective rape with a splintery baseball bat. Those are the ones I would like to ban.

LavenderSweetPea · 22/08/2026 08:29

I'm always surprised how many posters on Mumsnet aren't parents, or wanting to be parents tbh. There was a thread the other day about why would you bother having children and many posters were saying they definitely didn't want children - a valid choice, but what are you doing on Mumsnet?

Edited

Ah the obligatory "why are you on MN if you don't have children" comment. There are a whole host of discussion boards that don't have any bearing on parenting which many find interesting and helpful.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 22/08/2026 08:19

I don't have a problem with male posters posting here at all. There are some regular male posters who frequently contribute intelligent, insightful, informative and/or amusing posts, and as far as I'm concerned, they're more than welcome here.

I'm not interested in posts from willy-waving misogynistic twats who feel the need to announce their maleness when it bears no relevance to anything, simply because they believe it confers some special value. It doesn't, and we don't care. But I think they're the minority, generally.

This. Men do sometimes have a relevant comment.

MyArtfulGreySloth · 22/08/2026 09:42

They can’t just let us have anything can they?

Because the number of non-parent related topics outweigh the parent related stuff.

This isn’t a female only site, it isn’t they are infiltrating it and it is, this site is open to all, it isn’t gender specific of specific to parents, irrelevant of the name.

What was it about the posts they made that revealed their penis?

Others have several posts deleted for calling women names when they disagree with them.

roseymoira · 22/08/2026 10:08

Their threads are ridiculous, always follow the same script. My wife is distant, I miss how we used to feel so close….. She doesn’t want to have sex with me how can I make her?

I’ve been on mumsnet on and off for over 10 years and it was a problem back then too. Their threads are always annoying and I tend to skip them.

How do you know if they don’t say ?

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/08/2026 10:12

There are a lot of men, particularly on any threads about sex in relationships. It's really obvious.

Minasama · 22/08/2026 10:16

I found this odd as well. At the same time excluding people sits badly with me.
My husband would rather pull his own teeth out than engage with Mumsnet so it does make you wonder what kind of man is on here - maybe an intellectually curious one in fairness.
