To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

Completely agree.
I am not anti royal or pro royal but I seriously don't understand the hate for Meghan Markle.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 20/08/2026 22:11

Yanbu. Some peoples obsession with them is utterly bizarre.
Also, Liz Truss gets taxpayer funded police protection for the rest of her life. Seems reasonable the Kings actual son and his family should too.
I say that as a republican.

dudsville · 20/08/2026 22:14

Another republican here in agreement with you all.

FairViewRosie25 · 20/08/2026 22:14

I don’t really like her but she and the Children need some protection . Harry was paying privately in the States why can’t he do that here?

ShedShedShed · 20/08/2026 22:16

I just don't understand why all of a sudden the UK isn't the security risk they've been bleating on about all this time. 🤷

Namenamchange · 20/08/2026 22:16

I think she fairly resilient and brave to come back to this country where she seems to be hated. I think she takes a lot of flack for Harry's choices.

Thedogscollar · 20/08/2026 22:17

The comments on this forum are insane.
These haters have neither met them or know them yet the way they speak is utterly deranged.
The Sussex family returning to the UK will have zero effect on their lives. It's quite baffling and disturbing to see adults act this way.
Yanbu.

Heathertrott2 · 20/08/2026 22:17

It will be the same people who lined up to have a pop at Jason Arday but then piped down when it ended tragicly. She can move to where she wants, it literally has nothing to do with any of us. If people weren't so vitriolic about them online then maybe they wouldn't need to worry about protection. Given what just happened to Ann Widdecombe, there are a thousand more loons on standby willing to have a go at Meghan I'm sure

FairViewRosie25 · 20/08/2026 22:17

you make a good point

MiceSpiders · 20/08/2026 22:18

I just don't understand how the UK was too dangerous for her and the children 2 weeks ago, causing her to change travel plans last minute and cancel public engagements, but now they are moving here and enrolled in schools. Has the threat disappeared?

I don't have a strong opinion about either of them but they do seem to make a lot of noise for a couple who don't want public attention

Meadowfinch · 20/08/2026 22:19

OP, stop paying attention to gossip, which is all it is at this stage.

MM might find herself less of a hate figure is she didn't show such a total lack of discretion, court publicity quite so avidly, and demonstrate a blatent disrespect for the British royal family. She only has herself to blame.

This is H&M's opportunity to reset their relationship by behaving more appropriately. They are unlikely ever to be trusted as family again, but there is much they can do to improve things from how they are now. Let us hope they take that opportunity for their children's sake.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2026 22:20

YANBU @Hardware252525252525. The level of hatred of this woman and her family is deranged.🤯

I think he's the worst decision she's ever made. The man isn't bright and his entire world revolves around himself. Must be exhausting to live with

HelenaWilson · 20/08/2026 22:23

This was gone into ad nauseam at the time of Harry's RAVEC case. Once again, for those with short memories:
He can pay for private security.
What he can't do, as a private individual, is have access to classified intelligence or, in the UK, have private security personnel who carry guns.

Thedogscollar · 20/08/2026 22:24

I think the health of KC may have played a big part in their decision.
People are allowed to change their minds.
Just let them get on with their lives instead of the constant criticism and embellishment of anything they say or do.

It's comments like this that she needs to worry about.

The hate for her is dripping off this comment. And I say that as a republican. The Royal family deserve no respect from MM or anyone else.

IberianLynx · 20/08/2026 22:24

Agree that some comments online sound unhinged but in real life, most people don’t actually care. No one that I know or at work today has mentioned them. Mumsnet and social media in general is quite misleading in that respect.

This is not normal behaviour (from you, not her). You don’t know her, she doesn’t owe you anything. She’s completely free to court the press if she wishes, it’s doing no harm at all.

2026letsgo · 20/08/2026 22:26

I think most of the comments come from women about their dislike of her character.

She’s not done much politically to warrant the annoyance of men, who are the realistic threat.

I know race comes up as something people feel is an issue but Meghan’s not really an ambassador for any race, religion or country either.

I can’t see that theres much kudos for any man who made an attempt on her life. She’s irritating but not interesting.

I don’t understand why Harry didn’t prepare her more. He would’ve known that his kids wouldn’t be prince and princesses whilst the Queen was alive, should’ve warned her about the protocol when meeting his brother and sister in law etc. I don’t understand why he didn’t prepare her.

She’s entitled to worry about it. She’s not entitled to have uk tax payers pay for her security if they’re not working royals. That’s the deal. They didn’t want that so best of luck to them. If I’m worried about my house getting burgled should I get tax payer funded security too?

I would hope that tax funded security (ie. the police) would indeed come to your aid if you were being burgled.

It is entirely reasonable to take the view that the state shouldn’t pay for their round the clock security, but I can entirely understand the worry when you read so many people who will never, ever meet them frothing at the mouth in anger just because she exists.

If she is that worried about her security she can pay for it as she does in America.
