To think Meghan Markle has every right to worry about her security?

I’m not a monarchist and haven’t really taken much notice of the whole saga, but obviously do know the main points.

However, the comments across Mumsnet and multiple newspapers and websites are absolutely insane and unhinged. People who don’t know them insisting she’s leaving Harry and the kids, is controlling him, that they’re skint and tge
kids will have to go to state school if Charles doesn’t pay, people saying they hope a random stranger sees her and gives her ‘some home truths’.

It is absolutely crackers and I worry about the sanity of the people who seem to really believe they know them.

Of course she does

The negativity towards her is off the scale and for what excatly speaking out. She hasn’t abused anyone she hasn’t deliberately hurt anyone she just hasn’t always kept her mouth shut

Even if all this negativity wasn’t aimed at her she is married into a family that the most senior (and they are) will always be a target

Why are you so emotionally invested? There has been very recent legal action/court cases where they have stated they are not safe in the UK and require state funded security. I only wondered what has changed since then.

Where is evidence of my emotional investment?
There is obviously going to be threats to her seeing as the country seems to be bat shit crazy about her. My question to you was the specifics you quoted? Pretty sure these weren’t reported in the court case, but maybe they were I didn’t follow it. Correct me if I’m wrong on these details. But if they weren’t, how do you know she changed her flight, cancelled her engagements?

Completely agree.
I am not anti royal or pro royal but I seriously don't understand the hate for Meghan Markle.

Absolutely this! She seems alright, I don’t get the insane hatred…

I don’t even understand why we know this? Who leaked it? Why do they want the public to know? Such unnecessary info that never needed to get out there but someone wanted it leaked for publicity. And it isn’t the BRF.

they could have bought somewhere. Moved here. NDAs for everyone, had a housewarming etc. But no. All had to be internationally publicised. Why do they even do this to themselves. Being low key is cheaper!

Don’t be daft. You cannot NDA neighbours, school children, their parents etc etc.

People posting unflattering threads about Harry and Meghan on Mumsnet are not a threat to their security.

Insane hatred!? Do me a favour, nobody cares that much, but it's so painfully easy to take the piss out of her.

Why is she easy to take the piss out of?

GarlicAnything · 20/08/2026 23:07

I'm not seeing hatred. I'm seeing irritation, contempt, frustration, some ridicule, some anger. This is all very unpleasant for anyone who cares what the public thinks of them - and it's standard for celebrities who misstep while seeking the public's attention.

Meghan's celebrity Marmite, people gossip about her. There's a world of difference between character critique and physical threats. I've not seen anyone wishing her harm in an abstract way, let alone planning or threatening to hurt her. There doubtless are some nutters who might attack her - they're everywhere, fortunately in very small numbers, and we're all in a degree of danger from them. They're exponentially less likely to shoot anyone over here than in Meghan's homeland.

It's absurd to call everyday gossip 'hate'. No-one's accusing her of crimes, which could raise the risk of targeted violence. They're just saying she annoys them.

I just don't understand why all of a sudden the UK isn't the security risk they've been bleating on about all this time. 🤷

This … they play the press to get clicks. They theowxoutctheircdirtybwashibg… well everyone around them’s dirty washing just to get clicks… they bathe themselves in a fairytale to get clicks … take idiots!!
security wise … had they just gone to Canada / USA and kept a sensible lifestyle then they’d be fine, but they create their own maelstrom … they bring it upon themselves then scream they need security … 🤡🤡 … 🙄🙄🙄

StormGazing · 20/08/2026 23:10

Hold on. What about the Oprah interview, the Netflix series, the book, the constant drama around them all self inflicted.

I wouldn’t trust her for an instant, she falls out with all her family bar her Mum, falls out with all Harry’s family, then skips off to the States whilst trying to flog her brand.

Just give it a rest MM!

I think it showed good judgement to put in boundaries where her dad and step sibling (s) (?) were concerned because they were awful and trying to exploit her situation for money.

And her mother has behaved with perfect discretion and dignity throughout.

I don’t have a problem with H&M telling their side of things. They get so much rubbish written about them, why not? They probably could have said a lot worse tbh!

Meghan worked in an ensemble of actors in a long-running tv series for seven years without any problems so I don’t think she intentionally set out to make trouble.

She obviously had some issues with Harry’s family, it’s likely there were issues on both sides, and being older and having lived in the world, she probably stood up for herself, and that was probably seen as outrageous behaviour bc the RF generally prefer their women to look good but not say much, and to put up and shut up.

And I don’t understand why returning to her home country qualifies as “skipping off” when she was raised there? And had recently had one child and was pregnant with another and was suffering from poor mh. I don’t think you skip anywhere when you are depressed do you?

Sereine · 20/08/2026 23:34

The main threat to their security comes from her husband's book, in particular his boast about the number of Afghans he killed.

The family is entitled to a high level of security from the state because they are vulnerable, and will get it on that basis. If they feel they need more, it's fair enough to expect them to pay.

MissBattleaxe · 20/08/2026 23:35

Thestealer · 20/08/2026 22:40

Are you qualified to diagnose someone with narcissism?

The late Queen covered up one of her sons being a sex pest or worse. No respect from me there.

Well said

Yes, insane hatred.🤯

Gealach · 20/08/2026 23:47

I think there is insane hatred against her.

I don’t like her. She is very unlikeable. Her instagram posts and tv show on homemaking was absolutely unauthentic. And she just stinks of someone who doesn’t listen to marketing and PR advice. Having works in this area, that grates my gears. But the woman hasn’t hurt anyone, the amount of hate she gets is absolutely insane.

If I was the subject of such vitriol abuse online. I’d be also concerned for my safety and that of my small children.

Namenamchange · 20/08/2026 23:48

I actually think she is insane for coming back/to this country, the amount of stress that poor woman will receive, and the scrutiny her and her children will face will be hideous.

Redpaisley · 20/08/2026 23:50

She shouldn't move to UK if she think she is hated that much. Problem solved.
Why would average person want to contribute to their security? Are they contributing to public in any way?

montysmaw · 20/08/2026 23:51

Not a Roylist either but the hat poured on Megan is insane so I would be worried about security too if I was her.

I would not want to come to live in this country as the population seems insanely hateful towards her for reasons I can only conclude are racist.

Dorosomethingbeautiful · 20/08/2026 23:55

@Screamingabdabz Megan needs protection because of people like you who spread lies on social media

I don’t understand why Harry didn’t prepare her more. He would’ve known that his kids wouldn’t be prince and princesses whilst the Queen was alive, should’ve warned her about the protocol when meeting his brother and sister in law etc. I don’t understand why he didn’t prepare her.

Prepare her to meet them? Like ,
Hello?
As you would to anybody else.

Imagine the hate she would get if Harry came on his own? all the she's keeping the children from an old man with cancer, stopping them knowing their cousins, she can't win.

Screamingabdabz · 20/08/2026 22:32

Her record of lying, bullying, self regarding narcissism and disrespect to the late queen and royal family is plain to anyone who has eyes and watched any of their tortured woe-is-me content. Even South Park parodied it. If you don’t understand perhaps that reflects more on you.

Where is the record?
I think hating somebody you don't know based on rumours and negative stories planted in the press. Says a lot about you .

I think her sister and Dad were awful.

Nothing she said about anyone was that bad: they are just a very tone deaf couple….my brother had a row with me and I had an argument with my SIL over a pair of tights and she wasn’t keen on lending me lip gloss and someone in the family is racist …. Like this is normal family stuff that 99% of families argue about.

Harry is a very broken person and he met an American that pointed out that the royal family are a bit weird and have weird dynamics and ran with that.

But they haven’t done anything terrible.

NormasArse · Yesterday 00:04

Autumngirl5 · 20/08/2026 22:30

If she is that worried about her security she can pay for it as she does in America.

The type of security you can pay for in America is very different to here.

But what you call “seeking the public’s attention” could also be characterised as “trying to regain some control of the narrative that is already there and in fact ever-present”.

There's a world of difference between character critique and physical threats.

I think the gap between those two things can be quite slim eg the murders of MPs Jo Cox and David Amess in 2016 and 2021 respectively, possibly Anne Wifdecombe too.

You may not be aware of any plots to harm MM and H, but Neil Basu, assistant head of the Met’s counter-terrorism unit when MM was in the UK , said that the couple faced awful, credible threats and that people had been jailed bc of them.

https://www.newsweek.com/threats-meghan-markle-prince-harry-life-real-cases-behind-terror-chief-neil-basu-warning-1763374

I think we have to be careful not to have another Diana situation on our hands and I don’t blame Harry for being worried about this.

Diana couldn’t escape press attention, tried to control it, was banished from the RF and ended up being deceived by Martin Bashir which led her to letting go of her PPOs.

She then was chased to her death by paps. And yes the driver was drunk and she should have worn a seat belt but she wouldn’t have been involved in a high speed chase in the first place had there been no paps in pursuit. They had tried to evade them and failed.

Some people were frustrated and contemptuous of Diana weren’t they and probably didn’t mean her any direct physical harm either? She was a divisive figure too.
But the truth is she came to harm and we are all guilty of consuming this endless nonsense that feeds the demand for yet more stories and commentary.

So yes, I think everyone needs to step back and calm down.

Threats to Meghan Markle's life—real cases behind terror chief's warning

A former senior U.K. counter-terror police officer said there had been "many, serious credible threats against Meghan."

They want access to intelligence rather than their security paid for don't they?

There will be a serious incident within a year of them moving back I imagine. People hate her more than Andrew for some reason. I don't know why she's come back, I wouldn't have if I were her. People genuinely hate anyone of colour atm. I was born and bred here (although ethnic minority) and I'm nervous, let alone someone with a target on their back like her.
