Is this level of bill splitting normal?

Renting with DP. We don’t pool wages so split our food shops. I’m happy with a rough estimate , he insists on going item by item on the recipes so it’s fair. I feel like he’s taking it too far now though. Some examples from the past week (we do 2/3 medium size shops a week rather than one big one):

-him thinking he’ll eat an extra bag of crisps than me so paying like 30p extra
-I only have weetabix occasionally so I had to pay about 20% of the total
-from tonight and what prompted me to post - I’ve had a stomach bug which I’m struggling to shift so I had to pay a higher % towards the loo roll.

This isn’t normal, surely!? He earns well and has no reason to worry about money.

What the fuck did I just read.

Women use more toilet paper than men overall so maybe just put yourself in permanent bog debt to this complete weirdo?

lazyarse123 · Yesterday 21:19

Good grief. If you want to stay with this tight arse why not each pay for food and toiletries every other week, it will work out even eventually.

Bananalanacake · Yesterday 21:19

If you don't have kids together there is no point whatsoever in living together. Can't you have a relationship living apart. It's good you are renting, much easier to move out.

MrsArcher23 · Yesterday 21:20

You deserve better than this. That’s not normal.

Silverbirchleaf · Yesterday 21:21

Not normal at all, and is very tight. Not a nice way to live, if you’re always watching who eats what etc. He’s not a keeper.

Hope you feel better soon.

ConfusedSoShutUp · Yesterday 21:22

Does your vagina clamp shut when he is examining the receipts? Mine would...

Tightdp · Yesterday 21:22

I didn’t really bring the subject up before we moved in, I assumed it would be an equal split and even out over time. No kids on horizon, in the future for sure but not a while yet, we have moved in together quite early in the relationship but it seemed right at the time when he suggested it.

Life’s way too short for this.

Is he really worth this level of petty bullshit?

Hankunamatata · Yesterday 21:23

Not normal at all.

Sounds very controlling and stressful. Surely you both out in say £100 per week (as example) then at end of the month anything left over just rolls onto next month.

He doesnt sound like he loves you

pinkspeakers · Yesterday 21:24

Just. wow.

No, never come across anything like this. Even students don't pay for loo roll by the sheet! (or sh*t)

ChaliceinWonderland · Yesterday 21:24

So when your on yoir period does he make you pay more ? Are y8u joking here ??? I think you need to move away from this very disturbing situation...

HollyhocksandPeons · Yesterday 21:25

He is sick in the head.

YouSawBrigadoon · Yesterday 21:27

Completely repugnant. There’s no way he should be in a relationship

somanychristmaslights · Yesterday 21:27

Well you might have used more loo roll, but then you’ve eaten less food at its equals outs surely? Yeah this is not normal. I’d be telling to cut it out or end the relationship - you don’t want live like that for years!

Pearlstillsinging · Yesterday 21:29

I'd be moving back out, sharpish!

NattyRedFinch · Yesterday 21:29

Tell him that you’ve noticed that he watches more telly than you, so he should pay more towards the electricity every month. Seriously though you cannot live like this. He is deranged.

DirtyBird · Yesterday 21:29

I sure couldn't be with him.

Good God don't have kids with him. Never mind the effect on you, he mustn't reproduce. Imagine a bloody colony of freaks counting crisp packets and sheets of bog roll.

pearlsclutchedhard · Yesterday 21:32

This isn’t normal, he sounds like a massive prick.

Sirmagoo · Yesterday 21:32

There’s a chapter in Joy Luck Club (also a scene in the movie) of the same issue. Can’t believe this guy, ugh.

ACR7 · Yesterday 21:32

😂😂😂 this has tickled me. That must be exhausting

I’ve definitely read this before on MN.

Oh no, don't through him back, someone else might get him.

The only solution is patio the bastard but not before he pays you half for the shovel and patio material...

*throw ffs 😂

He mentioned this is how he did it when he last lived with an ex, so maybe it was her 😂
