Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

Quite, it’s an experiment that is yet to be properly evaluated by results and outcomes.

The online form is exactly the same as the paper form !

It is reported in the Express newspaper that Reform UK wants to do a major review of PIP and health benefits if they are elected. There are currently 6.9 million receiving disability benefits and it is reported that 2.16 million claimants will keep there PIP in full and a further 2.89 million claimants will have there benefit claim modified or reduced but still get some benefits. Some of the savings will go to councils to administer help to disabled people in the form of home modifications eg walk in shower instead of bath. Councils already have some funding but it's very limited ATM. As usual Mumsnet immediately sees a headline and declares all PIP will be abolished.

PIP will be replaced by "Health Security Allowance". Is that not abolition of PIP?

2.89 million claimants will have there benefit claim modified or reduced but still get some benefits

That is not what Jenrick wrote in the Telegraph

Meanwhile, Health Security Allowance, a new form of regularly reviewed payment, will continue to support the gravely ill and severely challenged. Let me be very clear, we will never let down those who need it. In fact, these changes secure the system for those who deserve it for decades to come.

We will not pretend this is painless. Existing claimants will be reassessed over three to four years: we estimate that 2.16 million will keep their present cash entitlement in full, while 2.89 million will see theirs modified or withdrawn, concentrated where recent growth has been most explosive.

Nothavingagoodvalentinesday · 16/08/2026 18:29

It’s all very well saying you want more benefits but you also have to say how you are going to pay for them. Remember we are £3 trillion in debt.

Where have Reform got these figures? How do they know that two thirds of recipients don't need it?

What account have they taken of all those carers only able to manage now because of the PIP their dependents receive?

Dontcallmescarface · 16/08/2026 18:31

All those poster banging on about how PIP is "easy to get", really should give it a go sometime if they truly believe that to be the case. it doesn't affect your salary so you've got nothing to lose...except your pride and dignity but who cares, think of all that lovely money. Oh and do come back and let us know how you get on if you can tear yourselves away from your luxury AI holidays in the Maldives and your top-of-the-range Beamers.

Yes you can as long as you state your anxiety or depression is severe. Very easy to exaggerate.

So what you mean by severe ?
When i was mental health nurse i had paients whose depression was so severe they were catatonic and were treated with ECT some patients had weekly maintenace ECT
But there would be clear docunrnted eivdence of this

Just writing on a PIP you have severe anxity and Depression means nothing.

Amazing how they're going to reassess every claimant over three to four years! Apart from the fact any Reform government would do well to last 3-4 months, the DWP is so far behind with standard reviews that people are waiting upwards of a year for their renewal to be processed and many claimants are receiving surprise extensions to their awards of several years! How does Reform propose to manage this mammoth task?

Sure - who will pay it?

PIP should be means tested, and the savings should be reinvested in social care and for those who needed it the most.

I have a friend whose husband claims PIP whilst doing the same job as me, he has a blue badge too, despite zero mobility issues, he gets almost a thousand pounds a month. My friend uses the blue badge for free parking at work or in town when shopping in their expensive brand new Audi. He doesn’t need the extra money for care, his condition is controlled by medication, my friend got savvy though and used the Facebook groups etc to fill out the forms and get him the maximum.

I have just returned from holiday and every other disabled space had an Audi or Mercedes parked in it, including some tosser with a blue badge who parked there £70k Mercedes on a lifeboat reserved area, with kayaks and surf boards on the roof..

I have no issue with supporting people who need it, and I am sorry for people who find it hard to claim what they need, but blame the idiots like my friend and others who absolutely abuse the system, and have no shame hiding it either

Pray tell, how he was able to get a Blue Badge. Your post is full of lies, and you know it.

Gooseling · 16/08/2026 18:51

So funny.

It’s always the snotty able bodied righteous idiots who “have a friend on PIP for anxiety” that like to shout the loudest about how OUR benefits should be managed to help with OUR disabilities and health conditions. And how we are such a “drain” on tax payers.

Well guess what. I am a tax payer on PIP!

You all sound like shit mates and completely bitter. And so so so uneducated. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Thick as fucking mince.

Labour are looking to stop UC claimants under 22 claiming lower capacity to work. It's a blanket policy but what about those with very severe learning disabilities who are unlikely to ever be able to work. I.Q lower than 60. What will happen to those people?

Well quite. My son is entirely non verbal and doesn’t understand any spoken language. Wondering what job they’ll be expecting him to get!

Do you announce it to everyone you meet?
And what rates you get?
Like all the friend of a friend posters.

But there are no objective tests to measure anxiety. It is all patient telling coGP or consultant symptoms. Anyone can look these symptoms up online. Or can you name one objective test?

So there'd be an NI cut for all employers?

What would stop them banking this and still not employing anyone more likely to need sick pay?

From what I understand no NIC for employers employing disabled people but they pay into an insurance scheme instead. I think details are coming out tomorrow.

This study was done over 50 years ago, and a LOT has changed since then Much more is known aabout psychiatric illnesses now. For example, the physiological aspects of schizophrenia were only just beginning to be discovered at that time. Moreover, the study was about people being placed in mental hospitals, and the criteria for such placements have changed TOTALLY since then. Then, it was rather too easy to assign people to mental hospitals, and too often some social nonconformity was sufficient. Nowadays, there are often insufficient places even for acutely ill people who may pose a danger to themselves and/or to others.

And people are not diagnosed with depression or anxiety disorders just on the basis of filling in questionnaires, though such questionnaires may play a part. But they need a comprehensive medical examination to be diagnosed. Diagnostic manuals include a list of criteria that must be met. Yes, some people could fake them, but people can also put a thermometer in hot water to fake a fever.

No objective tests for some MH disorders means many people fake them. It's easy to look up symptoms on the internet then claim to GZp and consultant you have them.

No it isn't. The consultant also makes their own observations that are also recorded. Thing like how the patient talks and what they talk about, their body language, appearance (like if they are appropriately dressed, hygiene), how their mood seems at that time.

Some people sat in front of a consultant do not think they are ill at all.
