To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

@MrsMoastyToasty Now you're talking.

AlmostAutumn26 · 15/08/2026 22:04

This is actually mad!

endofthelinefinally · 15/08/2026 22:06

Honestly this has been a fashion in other countries for a few years now and it is a pain when you find it very difficult to find clothes that fit, especially if you know you will never wear them again. I have been through the whole rigmarole of trying to find something to hire/borrow/buy. It just adds to the stress and expense for guests who may have already paid for travel, gift, accommodation. Fine, choose the colours for the bridal party, but it is unreasonable to expect guests to stick to a colour scheme. There will be colours you can ask people to avoid and that is fine if it is for cultural reasons, but otherwise guests should be able to wear something they feel comfortable in and that suits them.

Dh & I will comply with your demand.

Bridezilla

ChocolateCinderToffee · 15/08/2026 22:08

Do you expect the men to go out and buy brown suits? It's not the 70s, you know.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/08/2026 22:08

Would a fox suit be acceptable?

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/08/2026 22:09

@KnittingBasket they do them in hi-viz orange too.

fryfryfry · 15/08/2026 22:09

Calm down bridezilla. You’ll look back on this in 20 years and die of cringe.

NotAnotherScarf · 15/08/2026 22:09

So you are asking your guests to spunk at least £100 on a suit that makes them look shite...yeah jog on

borborygmus1 · 15/08/2026 22:10

What a waste of money to buy a suit for one day that you would almost certainly never wear again. You are depriving men of one of the most excellent things about being a man, which is where they can re-wear their clothes ad infinitum, so of course they are upset. I look like a human turd dressed in yellow, brown or other autumnal colours. They are colours that suit a tiny number of people and your guests are going to resent you making them spend extra money to dress in a way that makes them look and feel terrible.

Themes for guests is something that ends at about the age of 6 or 7 years old when children no longer want their friends to dress as a superhero etc. for their parties. Making adults waste their money to dress up for a themed event smacks of main character syndrome. Let people wear what they want and what makes them feel good. The whole point of a wedding is good food, good wine, good conversation and good music. Nobody really gives a shit about what people are wearing, and that even includes what the bride/groom wear. Nobody cares or will remember 5 years from now, but they will remember resenting you for being asked to spend excessively to fulfill your dress code.

soddingspiderseason · 15/08/2026 21:43

Blimey. Just enjoy your day. What people wear is irrelevant. They are there because they care about you, and vice versa.

😂😂😂

@MrsMoastyToasty already posted up a fox suit 😉

LemonSnail · 15/08/2026 22:11

RaraRachael · 15/08/2026 22:11

We wouldn't comply. OH wouldn't be buying a brown suit specially and I hate autumn colours and they don't suit me.
Ridiculous demand.

lalalagarden · 15/08/2026 22:12

Get them to dress only in leaves 🍁

AgentPidge · 15/08/2026 22:12

Rather than expecting the men to buy new, you need to go down to Moss Bros and reserve a load of green, brown, orange and red suits for them to wear. Lovely. Don't forgot to post photos on here for us to admire.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/08/2026 22:13

This is bonkers. Dress themes for guests outside the wedding party should not be a thing.

Let people wear what they want - unless you are willing to pay for these new suits or outfits for all the guests just don’t do this.

Not a lot of people suit the colours you’ve mentioned too.

ShakaWhenTheWallsFell · 15/08/2026 22:14

Have you considered asking your friends and family to stay at home and hiring professional models to represent their presence instead. They'll wear what they're told and they'll look so much more aethsetic in your photos too.

Plus since nobody has to to buy new outfits, travel, stay over or take time off work, your nearest and dearest will have hundreds more to spend on your wedding gifts. Win, win

It's a wedding.
Not an film performance.

They are your guests. Not your extras.

Unless of course you are planning on filming Bridezilla: The Movie with yourself as the lead role

Cleo65 · 15/08/2026 22:16

Click bait - someone's bored & looking for attention methinks...
