To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

Surely a grey suit is better than this

Your guests are not props for your photos. I can’t believe you’re not embarrassed to have even asked this to be honest.

Just get them to glue some brown leaves on to their grey suits

Surely a selection of autumn colours would be more appropriate: brown, yellow, orange, a hint of red…

I do not believe this thread is serious. It can’t be.

This is why I dislike going to weddings. So many brides lose all common sense.

Or this

I look terrible in brown, orange etc. I’m good in blues - thank God I’m not invited.

SometimesTheIntrusiveThoughtsWin · 15/08/2026 21:56

If this is not a joke - then yes you are being incredibly unreasonable. Your wedding is very important to you - obviously - but less so to other people. You can’t expect the world and his wife to buy new clothes just to attend your wedding.

Bacarditropicalfizz · 15/08/2026 21:56

YANBU, they should dress as pumpkins 🎃

Atleastitsnotsunstroke · 15/08/2026 21:56

What 1% thinks this is reasonable?

The happy couple.

Maybe a ghillie suit?

WonderfulSmith · 15/08/2026 21:58

This is just made up, isn’t it?

I think you're all being really unkind. Mr Bean looked amazing in his brown suit.

SalmonRunner · 15/08/2026 22:00

Wow. I went to a wedding where the colour scheme was purple but thankfully that did not extend to the men's suits. Although I thought asking all the women to wear purple was v v unreasonable too.

Neuronimo · 15/08/2026 22:00

YABU I think that you might look back on this and cringe a bit. Men don't tend to wear brown's and oranges day to day. It would be a waste of money as a suit is a big outlay.

Genuine question. Why do you want/need a themed wedding ? Aren’t weddings sort of wedding themed ? Being a simple person I thought the point was to stand up in front of friends and family to express your love for your soon to be spouse and commit to them for life.

Are you really asking 94 year old auntie Doris to buy an brown / orange / red / yellow dress just for the day ?

MrsMoastyToasty · 15/08/2026 22:00

You could get any Scottish male guests to wear one of these. Shirt optional, though it might be a tad bit cooler in the autumn.

Oooh exciting. A themed wedding with all the guests dressed up as Oompa Lumpa’s.

TheStepboardisfullofbitteroddos · 15/08/2026 22:02

Hahaha!

Excellent OP!

I'd absolutely love all the men to have to make an effort and go and find new suits. Women tend to put so much more time in to wedding outfits and blokes just pull out the boring grey/navy suit.

DP has a burgundy suit and a deep green velvet one so he'd be ok.

Overthebow · 15/08/2026 22:02

If you’re going to buy everyone a dress or suit then yes you can expect this, but not if they have to buy their own.

KnittingBasket · 15/08/2026 22:03

This guy actually is a vicar. He's your man for the ceremony OP.
