To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

Autumnalbride · 15/08/2026 21:39

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

Have you read OPs posts?

Don’t know why I bother reading anything at all on here, tbh.

mathanxiety · 16/08/2026 16:09

You are being unreasonable about the grey suits but not about the colour scheme concept.

To all in shock and disbelief - get used to this trend. Photographers don't come cheap.

@Autumnalbride and this is why you don’t do a reverse because people don’t read your thread. And they don’t read the two comments from Faye Mumsnet which are literally linked at the top of the thread.

I agree with the poster who said your DS was (several non complimentary emojis).

A 13 year old isn't such a precious flower that he gets to scoff, or his mother gets to scoff, at the idea of being a ring bearer, and just say no when apparently plans are already in place. Not nice.

You'll be crying to mumsnet in a few years asking why DS thinks it's OK to mope in his room for weeks on end and communicate with the family via text or grunts.

Actually your entire attitude toward the sister and the wedding sucks. It seems the two of you are engaged in a long running feud that you decided to carry on into the wedding preparations. If you don't like this woman and the two of you do t get along then you should have declined the invitation from the getgo. You shouldn't be getting involved in the drama.

Yes, I did - my first comment was addressed to the posters who think themed weddings or colour schemes are unacceptable.

Correct
all correct
plus the DH… that’s a weird detail the Op threw in. That he, for some reason, is very keen on the Op maintaining a relationship with the sister.

Basically two sister. Both with issues. Both engaged in long running high drama and unpleasant behaviour.

It will go on and on. They probably go on holiday together!

Ah ok.

To me that sounded like you were addressing the OP as no one was tagged. It also sounded like you hadn’t read the thread.

Can't be arsed to tag. I thought the sentence addressing "all" should have covered it.

To be fair, if an OP is daft enough to start a childish reverse then… you’re going to have to expect people responding to the Op

Edited

This is why reverses shouldn't be allowed. It's annoying.

I'm happy to not be in anyone else's wedding photos. Having said that I have never been invited to a wedding where the bride has made any demands of the guests.

Autumnalbride · 16/08/2026 12:13

The day trips hilarious if you're not on them. If you're on them you're uncomfortable, embarrassed and miserable
She was literally sitting on a bench with a face like a slapped arse saying it was stupid how the fruit trees were all in a line, and she could have redesigned these award winning gardens at this national trust country house so much better, the flowers were shit etc etc.
She invited me on a woodland walk a week later. I declined because fuck me if I was going to wander around listening to how shit the birdsong and the bluebells are. No thanks 🤣

Edited

I imagine you and your family create quite a bit of interest from others on these “day trips” @Autumnalbride

ie what the flying f* is going on in the weird family? They look like they’re all about to kill each

I paid my photographer so I would have memories of the lovely day that was our wedding, to treasure forever. That is, to record what actually happened and give me photos of my family and friends dressed up as they wished, all enjoying themselves.

I wasn't paying anyone to 'create' anything - a vision, a colour palette, whatever - just to record what we had planned, a lovely day with family and friends celebrating the occasion.

I've been to quite a dew weddings recently, but fortunately don't know anyone daft enough to try and dictate what their guests might wear.

I always thought the best man had the rings. What is all this ring bearer stuff???

In what way is grey not an autumn colour? Hello? The sky???

I live in Glasgow. Grey is an every season colour 🤣

Abra1t · 16/08/2026 19:53

Photographers ought to be able to cope with people not wearing themed colours and have been doing so for decades.

HowardsWahey · 16/08/2026 21:57

Reverses are such a pointless waste of time. Why bother lying?

Goldengirl123 · 16/08/2026 22:00

Seriously??? Control freak or bridezilla? Grow the fuck up

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 16/08/2026 22:10

I find autumn very grey… hence being one of my least favourite seasons.

I don't really mind tbh. I know they are answering the OP. Their contributions are still useful and valid. Everyone else can easily deduce they are answering the OP. I don't really get why everyone keeps having a go at them.

I understand it's annoying when people ask for details that have already been given or given advice that's already been given a million times, but people not realising it's a reverse are really not causing an issue.

You often get better perspectives.
