To expect everyone at my wedding to stick to the colour scheme?

I'm having an autumn themed wedding. I've asked everyone, all the wedding party, family and all the guests to wear autumn colours - brown, orange, yellow, red etc.
Some of the men want to wear grey suits but I am upset by this because I don't see grey as an autumn colour. They say they will wear autumn coloured ties and accessories but I said I want the suits to be in Autumn colours
Is this unreasonable?

my only question is why you have put up with her shit for so long?

Monty36 · 16/08/2026 12:27

When the arrangements and the party are more important than the purpose of the event…..

I wouldn’t be coming to your wedding if I had to wear those colours. Don’t be so daft about it.

Easterchicken · 16/08/2026 12:49

Unless your buying everyone's outfits you don't get to say what they wear

However if say grey was autumnal the sky in autumn is usually grey anyways

bridgetreilly · 16/08/2026 12:56

Completely on your side, OP.

But how about tan chinos with tweedy jackets? Could help to mollify the bridezilla without looking too ridiculous.

YourAquaLion · 16/08/2026 13:01

In what way is grey not an autumn colour? Hello? The sky???

Blueburner · 16/08/2026 13:04

Jesus your sister sounds like total hard work. What do your parents say about all this.
TBH I just cannot fathom the need for anyone to have a wedding website? hell no would I be buying a suit in autumn colours for a wedding. I just wouldn’t go

user85642879067 · 16/08/2026 13:14

Bizarre - and a wedding website? Bloody glad I got married before instagram dictated everything!

Elsvieta · 16/08/2026 13:14

I'm picturing my parents' wedding photos (1976). Brown suit with flares and an orange/brown striped tie...

Spanglemum02 · 16/08/2026 13:34

I was wondering whether your sistwr is also autistic, but to be honest she just sounds miserable and unpleasant.

76evie · 16/08/2026 13:44

Get a grip also whoever voted that YANBU needs to get a grip too,

Why would you even think it’s ok to dictate what colour people wear?! Surely the fact they took the time to get dressed up and come celebrate your wedding should be enough for you.

It's a stupid reverse - it's the OP's sister who is dictating the colours.

I was married in 1979. Registry office jobby. Groom in dark blue trousers and white shirt with blue striped tie and blue velvet jacket. Best man in brown suit and light brown shirt with an orange and brown kipper tie !! Happy days.

People who insist on colour schemes at weddings are truly exhausting.

When the arrangements and the party are more important than the purpose of the event…..

Exactly.

If I had been invited to a wedding where the bridezilla had dictated a colour scheme I would either find a cheap accessory in said colour or completely ignore it if it was a colour that didn't suit me and that I would never wear again. DH would ignore it and just wear something he already owned.

I would then just say, if challenged "feel free not to include us in the photos"

alfagirl73 · 16/08/2026 14:48

I generally find brides to have become unreasonably demanding when it comes to weddings these days. It’s one day and people don’t have unlimited funds to go out and buy new colour-schemed outfits that they probably don’t even like or will wear again.

She should be careful what she wishes for though, especially if she gets all bridezilla towards people who decide on a bit of malicious compliance.

Insisting on colours of orange, brown, yellow, red, green etc might sound autumnal to her but in reality could look anything but if people wear very bright tones of her chosen colours. Her wedding could end up looking like a cross between the tellytubbies and Elf!

You're bonkers..imagine getting upset over the colour grey

Only on Mumsnet. I honestly have never been invited to any wedding where I have thought the bride is demanding or a bridezilla. Never had a dress code, a hen do with loads of drama etc

And I’ve been to maybe… 16 weddings over the course of my life

To be fair, if an OP is daft enough to start a childish reverse then… you’re going to have to expect people responding to the Op

This happens on many threads and I think if people have the time to comment they should have the time to read a few posts.

And if they don’t bother then they should expect people to comment on it 🤷‍♀️.

sunnybaros · 16/08/2026 16:03

I would turn up wearing just three autumn leaves.
I'm sorry but you are being ridiculous. Lord help the bridegroom in what is likely to be a short-lived marriage.
Anyone coming in a pumpkin outfit or dressed as an acorn bearing squirrel? Be careful what you wish for as it could turn in to a pantomime!

More importantly, daft reverse threads should be against Talk guidelines
