Even seeing other posters colander results I still can’t see anything except for colander shadows?!!

Nope. Glasses.

It's fine. We checked the level of protection first, it met the standard.

Also me. Also spiralling. What a bloody let down.

I peeked through two pairs of sunglasses, for a second or two. Less bad than when you have to do a roundabout with a low summer sun. I also risked my shitty phone camera because I want to replace it anyway.

Snap! I would never deliberately have looked, but it's like saying 'Right, now nobody is allowed to think about elephants! DO NOT think about elephants! Bad things will happen if you THINK ABOUT ELEPHANTS!!' I mean, of course you think about bloody elephants!

I'm freaking out now, hope a 2 second glance doesn't count!

This makes me feel better. I parked quite a few times and now I’m very much panicking. I don’t know why I didn’t think it was dangerous, but I’m counting down to the 4 hour window in which I’ll start to know for sure 😭😭😭

It was much better with specs. A neighbor saw me with my colander and went to find a spare pair that she had bought. I owe her a favor.

Moderate clouding, plus a thick smoke from our awful wildfire (in South Wales) meant the conditions were perfect for being able to peek!

I tried a few methods.

The pin hole box worked, but the image was teeny tiny, and I was wearing my fixed vision glasses, not my bifocals, so I couldn't really focus brilliantly with the short range.

Tried a Sextant, but again I couldn't get a focus with the short range.

The Eclipse Glasses were brilliant, got a shot from one of my colleagues. The went over my glasses and I got a brilliant view, good size and perfectly in focus!

The surprise of the night was holding up a bit of cardboard at the back of a pair of binoculars that were aimed directly at the sun. A brilliant, large image that was just there to look at throughout the whole time. The binos were on a stand so it worked out perfectly and most people gathered around that, so it worked the best. Props to my boss who set it up!

I loved it. I'm in Ireland. The shadows and the weird blue-greyness of the sky were wonderful.

It is no different to any other day! The sun is not brighter or stronger or more damaging during an eclipse.

Looking at a partial solar eclipse is more dangerous than looking at the normal sun because the lower overall light tricks your eyes. This blocks your body's natural reflex to look away, letting you stare longer and burn your retina, which can cause permanent blindness.

Was cloudy here, I tried the box with the pin.

Yes, I'm sure that the sun itself is not brighter, stronger, or more damaging than on any other day. If an idiot stares at it because an eclipse is happening and damages their eyes, it isn't because the sun was different.

I think EVERYONE has looked directly at the sun at least once in their lifetime, intentionally or not! Funny how nobody cares though until its a solar eclipse and the media then tells us all we've now burned holes through our retinas right into our souls!

Charming (!) I'm sure you will be happy if you are blind from staring at the sun too long...! In case you'd not really realised, I was illustrating a point of how eye protection is essential and eye problems are absolutely serious. Shame you had to make a sarcastic comment in a silly immature way. 😑
