To ask how much your husbands pay into the family home? Does he expect you to pay half the bills, does he pay them all etc?

All money pooled.

This but I earn more so the answer I suppose is that he pays less than me. However he recently inherited some money and paid off our mortgage

What does he pay for then?

Also what job do you do part time that finances a house and 2 kids?

Not married here but all money is shared. He pays all bills as im a sahm currently. The only seperate money is my private savings and his pre relationship properties.

I work 30 hours night shifts as a band 5 nurse. He pays for holidays, takeaways, half of the rent and council tax, sometimes will give me money for the gas electric food. I dont think this is right?

If you're not happy, then you need to have a discussion with him.

I have many times but every month pretty much stays the same

DH pays everything because I don't work. We have a joint account which we both use as and when we need to. My own account has been empty for years.

ThisBoldFinch · 11/08/2026 20:23

Wow, so much for the strong independent women

Pinkissmart · 11/08/2026 20:25

So, your husband literally refuses to pay his share ? And he’s a parent? Christ

ojhdddhjs76 · 11/08/2026 20:25

We pool everything and have done since we moved in together. I know people have varying ways of doing it, but I think pooled finances are the only way that shows true respect to both contribution to the household financially and otherwise. We’ve been together since we were young though, we brought nothing into the relationship, everything we have I deem as jointly earned.

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 11/08/2026 20:25

I can’t comment on whether your situation is fair without knowing how much you both earn, what the bills are etc.

In my case, I pay some bills, DH pays some others. It helps for ID purposes for us both to have a utility in our own names. I used to have a spreadsheet to work it out so that we both had the same money left over after the bills/ mortgage/ childcare/ food costs, which I think is the fairest way if money isn’t just pooled. I earn more. (But I’ve not updated that split for years, we just go with the flow nowadays and we both have savings).

HJC88 · 11/08/2026 20:26

Joint account. Then we get equal personal money.

mtobrokeme · 11/08/2026 20:31

Our mortgage is paid off, I pay all the bills which amount to about £500 a month. He pays for all food, all meals out, anything to do with cars, home improvements, he sorts out ‘savings’ out, all the ‘fun stuff’ and all holidays/spending money. Anything thats left after the bills are paid is mine.

Wherethedogsits · 11/08/2026 20:31

Why do you ask op?

DilemmaDelilah · 11/08/2026 20:36

More than I do at the moment as he has a higher income than me. I had a higher income than him before so I contributed more than him.

We worked out how much we need for all our bills and household expenses, put that in a joint account, then put aside some in a savings account, and allow ourselves the same amount each in our personal accounts. Neither of us had any more personal spending money than the other.

1hts · 11/08/2026 20:39

I pay all bills. Full time teacher while my husband is full time at home with children.

rollerblind · 11/08/2026 20:40

Sugarplum5 · 11/08/2026 20:05

Would that be ok if it was the other way around and you were?

Def not. 😬
I wouldn’t be able to. I do pay for all of the children’s clubs, clothes, childcare, etc. I also pay into savings and investments for the children. He has a company car whereas I pay for my car, fuel, insurance etc - all costs he doesn’t have. I am a teacher and I work part time, and I don’t earn anywhere near as much as my husband. I don’t think it’s necessarily fair or the “right” way of doing things but it’s just the way we do it. I do know we’d be stuffed without him (which isn’t good at all!)

Chatddd · 11/08/2026 20:41

100%

Aposterhasnoname · 11/08/2026 20:41

All money pooled, can’t imagine how it would work any other way.

Sherararara · 11/08/2026 20:41

DH earns 3x what I do, always has. Our money has always been pooled on one account and all bills paid from that. Your married. You’re either in it together or your not.

Peonies12 · 11/08/2026 20:42

We have a joint account for all household / child expenses - we contribute based on our pay so my DH pays in a bit more. Rest of our money is ours to spend as we wish

TheShins · 11/08/2026 20:47

He earns almost 3x my salary so he pays the relative amount into the joint account which all family bills and spending come out of and we each have the same amount of personal ‘spending money’ left in our personal accounts.

Twattergy · 11/08/2026 20:51

We both contribute same amount monthly to a shared current account that covers all main day to day costs plus same amount into a joint savings account for stuff like holidays and bigger bills. We'd adjust contribution if one of us was earning sig less or more than the other but tbh we've been 50/50 to date.

No it doesn’t sound right, it sounds like you are being taken advantage of.

Calasa · 11/08/2026 20:54

all money in one pot with one account in joint names.

At times I have earned more and at times he has. But we are married so its all joint money,

friedaklein · 11/08/2026 20:55

All money pooled. No your money my money.
