To ask how much your husbands pay into the family home? Does he expect you to pay half the bills, does he pay them all etc?

He pays 100% of bills, food and mortgage

alexisccd · 11/08/2026 19:30

Joint account - it’s all pooled. I earn 4 x what DH earns on basic, he does some overtime, I get annual bonus. all pooled. All outgoings paid out of joint account.

Twoweeksinaugust · 11/08/2026 19:31

He pays all household bills, I pay for food shopping, cleaner and all child related expenses (although he does give me some money towards Christmas presents). I pay for small weekends away, he pays for the summer holiday.

We'd both hate to have joint finances.

Shatenoeuf · 11/08/2026 19:38

For most of our live we both paid half the bills each etc. There was always plenty left each to save, spend on ourselves etc, and savings are pooled anyway. Recently we bought a bigger house& the bigger mortgage payment was leaving me with slightly less spends than him (he recently got a pay rise), so we reviewed and adjusted it and now pay 60/40 each

momager22 · 11/08/2026 19:40

Surely you should be asking on the situation too - are both working, is one on mat leave, one a sahp, there are so many variables the figure alone with co context is useless

Alarae · 11/08/2026 19:41

He makes 42% of the net household income, so he pays 42% of the total household budget into our joint account.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/08/2026 19:43

All our money from whatever source has always been ‘ours’. I can’t imagine ever doing it any other way, not when you’re married.

Pedant61 · 11/08/2026 19:46

I pay ll the basic bills, but he pays for holidays, house repairs, cars and investments - all the big stuff. So, overall, he contributes far more than I do, and it has worked fine this way for nearly 40 years.

CrawlingBackToYou · 11/08/2026 19:47

Everything goes into the pot, I earn 50% more.

What is left over is free for whoever wants/needs it.

No questions asked for small spends £10-30, larger spends usually run it past the other. Neither have final say on spending joint decisions really.

Had this set up for 23years, 20 years ago DH earned 100% of income - works well

Bunnykins34 · 11/08/2026 19:48

Ummmmm my husband pays all the bills, I don't work and my husband also gives me £500 pm too. We don't have a joint bank account either.

Seymour5 · 11/08/2026 19:49

budgiegirl · 11/08/2026 18:54

All our income is pooled into one joint account, all bills/expenses/fun money is paid from there. Anything left is put into savings, some joint savings and some individual for tax purposes, but still considered joint as far as spending it is concerned. We don't really have any of our own money, but neither are we big spenders, and will discuss any big purchases. But if he wants to go play golf, and I want to get my hair done, that all comes out of the joint account. It's worked well for us for 30 years.

And it’s worked well for almost sixty years in our case.

Stompythedinosaur · 11/08/2026 19:54

All our money goes into a single account which pays for everything.

Girasoli · 11/08/2026 19:57

He pays all of the bills, the big supermarket shops, and just over half the mortgage.

I pay for the DCs extra curriculars and just under half the mortgage.

HeNeedsRehab · 11/08/2026 19:58

All pooled here but I take home 50% more than him.

I look after the money so savings, investments etc.

We don’t take ‘spends’ but do buy what we want really but he’s more inclined to check it’s ok or we can afford it but he’s doesn’t need to.

Me part time employed OH works around 35-37 hours a week self employed.
Separate accounts and it seems to be me paying most of the bills food and children's clothing (including child benefit here)

Same but my DH salary covers the bills etc all else is spread into different assigned sections like holidays ,petrol , food. Kids stuff.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 11/08/2026 20:02

He pays for them all

StarieNight · 11/08/2026 20:02

I pay in slightly less to these joint pots .

Sugarplum5 · 11/08/2026 20:05

rollerblind · 11/08/2026 19:29

Would that be ok if it was the other way around and you were?

What does he pay for then?

Also what job do you do part time that finances a house and 2 kids?

Not married here but all money is shared. He pays all bills as im a sahm currently. The only seperate money is my private savings and his pre relationship properties.

Kindling1970 · 11/08/2026 20:08

WineCharm · 11/08/2026 18:49

He pays them all. He pays them all when I work, when I don't work, when we both work. When I make more, when he makes more etc.

He pays all of the bills when you earn more money? How is that fair?

CupidsPysche · 11/08/2026 20:13

We’ve been together over 30 years now and early days he out-earned me and then for last 20 years I’ve out-earned him. We’ve always put enough into our joint account that leaves us with the same amount in our own accounts for personal spends each month.

Didimum · 11/08/2026 20:14

Our total monthly bills/fixed costs come to about £5800. He pays around £3600 and me £2200.

Onegiantpupil · 11/08/2026 20:15

Our wages goes into one pot and Ann equal amount is put into our own accounts each month. Over the years he has been the main earner then I have.

Am always surprised when posters say that their DH/DP earns 3 or 4 times their salary, spends money on themselves and leaves the OP to scrimp and save on their smaller wage. When your married you’re meant to be a team

Jellybunny98 · 11/08/2026 20:15

We don’t treat money like this, we both get paid into our joint account and everything comes out of there really. No his money or my money.
