Butt on display at lunch in south of France

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

I tell you what is far more inappropriate. The op and <allegedly> others laughing at a young woman. Just awful bullying behaviour.

I know.

The OP's on holiday and all she can do is whinge, stare at a young woman's arse, stick her nose in her phone and invite other's to 'have a bit of fun' regarding how this woman is dressed.

She might as well have stayed at home where perhaps her behaviour may be just as spiteful.

Yes of course, but nearly everyone puts a towel down first surely? I do, so it would never be an issue.

Not everyone does (I do, but plenty don't) so imagine the BUM JUICES that occasionally get ON YOUR TOWEL how do you sleep at night???

I suppose in general my point is- unless you never go anywhere communal on the beach or at the pool you might come in contact with 'bum juice' (whatever that is)

Dude, if you had that body: I promise you would be showing it off too! I know I would. Everywhere and at all times 😅

I wasn’t laughing! Others were and men were staring.

You were staring and I bet having a snigger. You were certainly critical.

You've commented on here about her bum being 'in your face' which it couldn't have been.

It was a beach cafe if you can't cope with partly dressed bodies and thongs go elsewhere.

Honestly. It s beach cafe, seats 'sinking into the sand'. We aren't talking about a thong in a high end restaurant. Unclench.

I missed the bit where it's a beach cafe and not a restaurant but even so it's frowned upon where I'm from.

Unclench yourself.

Well I guess it's just great we can all have different opinions - I'd rather not sit on someone else's sweaty bum patch if and when it can be avoided and you don't mind it. I don't lose sleep over it - I just think it's common courtesy for people to think of other users of the facilities. I suppose if we go to that cafe you can have her chair and I'll take another! Sorted! 😂

I people watch too- I did comment that here in Italy, every Italian woman has at least half her arse out, including the older ladies at the beach and the ones without perfect figures. Everyone is in tiny pants, except for the Brits on holiday in sensible one pieces (including me!). And you know what, they all look fabulous. And comfy, and relaxed. And because everyone is half naked, no one is staring. In the same way the men with tops off in little swimmers aren’t noticeable on the beach but would be noteworthy in Tescos on a rainy February morning.

lot of black bikini bottoms with mismatched tops. And yes, lots of thongs, and at a beach bar, people are in their swimwear here. Go across the road/ step off the beach, and the layers go on. A beach bar on the beach (sandy chairs etc) would have had at least one tiny pant covered bottom on it.

She keeps getting up and bending over! I am not a prude I don’t care what people wear it’s just in my face and she is
sitting in a chair made of string. On lots of levels it is yuk. I appreciate all your comments it’s only a bit of fun.

If the chair is string, she's going to have an interestin pattern on her cheeks!,

igelkott2026 · 11/08/2026 16:25

FGS people, if you are in a cafe you put some clothes on. Whether the chairs are on sand, shingle, patio/terrace or carpet!

I don't know why people are trying to justify it.

BlackCat14 · 11/08/2026 16:26

At a beach restaurant where she’s sat on a “string” chair that dangles into the sand, I think it’s fine.

Whats not okay though, are the 50 year old women laughing at her. Nasty behaviour.

Who's laughing? Bare buttocks on a chair I might later have to sit on is no joke, thank you!

No I wasn’t laughing or judging I was actually really curious and just chatting with my husband about whether a women wearing a cheese cutter thong and not covering up in a restaurant is appropriate. Please don’t tell me what I was thinking or doing. The post was for fun as I said, and I am not making fun of anyone it was meant as a curious lighthearted post.

Naws · 11/08/2026 16:30

What I don't understand (apart from why the OP has her nose stuck in her phone when she's out for something to eat with her husband, and her eyes fixed upon another woman's arse), is why the OP chose to sit on a chair and then whinge about it??

The opening post literally says: "This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter!"

So did you assume none of these women following the fashion ever sit down? 😳

Whatever possessed you to sit on a beach chair, on a beach full of women wearing 'the same cheese cutter'?

Were you just creating something to whinge about?

SodThisHeadache · 11/08/2026 16:31

I would judge hard. And I'd be please if others laughed People with their arses out need a healthy dose of social shaming.

And if you think that's mean, you're just Shame Shaming me. Bigot!

Would it hurt you very much to know that I do not care?

Calliopespa · 11/08/2026 16:33

For me they look (well I think they ARE) so uncomfortable. Can't stand having a strip wedged that far up my bottom.
