Butt on display at lunch in south of France

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

It is not unreasonable to not want to see bare bottoms and bouncing boobs while you are eating. If there was a restaurant that offered that as a selling point there would be hell to pay by a lot of the same people trying to justify it in this thread.

Oh 'bouncing boobs' too, I didn't realise she was topless! I don't think beach cafes would offer that as a selling point tbh so no need to fret.

For the nth time I was not laughing at her! And I wasn’t judging the girl for wearing a thong. My point was all about the context. Diners were laughing and men were talking about and staring at her. After all the discussion and debate on here my position remains the same. If someone has the balls to wear a thong bikini and not cover up in a beach cafe, restaurant or bar. Then they may find that they draw negative attention to themselves. Because there are societal expectations (in this case cover your bottom for lunch) and if you don’t adhere then people do judge, rightly or wrongly. I was questioning what others think? It’s a very interesting debate and ok no?

The cafe in question didn’t do anything, that’s true. However there is a generally accepted etiquette that one should cover up for dining. She chose not to and people laughed and stared. This is what prompted me to post. With regard to all your other questions please read my posts if you can be bothered, I have gone over these points exhaustively!

Yes, men parade all the time. Entitled, attention seeking, gross men, who I frankly judge far more than I'd judge a woman who bowed to/embraced patriarchal norms. Like the sort of men who like to wander around naked in public places where they might encounter lone women and/or children because 'it's legal!!' - never mind that they could cause distress or come across as intimidating, or that no one else wants to see their penis.

And people should be allowed to critique it for being unhygienic or discourteous - or to discuss the patriarchal social pressures behind the trend of women exposing private body parts or behaving in a sexualised or self-objectifying manner being framed as 'empowering'.

Yes of course, but no one bothered to ask the actual woman why she was wearing it. She just got laughed at and then lots of assumptions made about her reasons. Everyone has different ideas of what ‘behaving in a sexualised or self-objectifying manner’ is - we could easily have a thread about someone wearing lipstick. Of course that debate is ‘allowed’ but is it really how you want to spend your time, making judgements about what other women decide to wear? I personally think the world is better without that.
