Butt on display at lunch in south of France

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

A lot of people aren’t describing the woman herself as gross it’s just a really gross fashion. Fashions can be gross , this applies to both men and women . Or are we just not allowed have any negative opinion of a fashion at all? Is it just not feminist to have a negative opinion of a fashion

I wouldn't comment on women's appearances at all. If i saw anyone laughing at a woman I'd shame them and ask them to stop.

Anyone's appearance CAN amount to disgusting behaviour - we've all seen examples. Wearing a t-shirt with a nasty slogan, for eg. Your statement is illogical.

And while we should teach our children tolerance and good manners - which I certainly have done - we should also encourage them to question and analyse fashions and trends and not to blindly follow them or accept them.

Toleration isn't the same as approval, Gloriia. I tolerate lots of things I don't really approve of - we all have to. i don't approve of eating meat, but i never preach or tell others how to live their lives.

My daughter is an 'alternative' kind of person and as a design graduate she has an insight into fashion and what underlies it. Good for her. We often have discussions about the deeper implications of clothing and that's fascinating.

I think it’s just so sad that women think so little of themselves that they would wear such an outfit. Why demean yourself so much? It’s grim. Think more of yourselves please.

Why do you keep applying all your posts to women specifically? What about the men ? Not everything is about “shaming women’s bodies “ it’s just about people not having private parts on display in a restaurant to be honest male or female (that said men don’t wear these things for some odd reason that no one seems to be able to pin down )

Oh I saw, this in a supermarket the other week. A chubby lady had her trousers falling down and looking very cheeky, yuk. She seemed unaware.

Just use words effectively. 'I don't like the look of thongs and would rather not see them' is fine.

I agree and it’s not an insult to compare human behaviour to non-human primates. Humans are often compared to non-human primates in psychology books etc. because of our close evolutionary roots. It can be quite interesting to study this in my opinion.

In books fine, using baboons or whatever as a comparison to women's behaviour in a critical way is not fine. Sexual behaviour, showing genitals etc. Just no.
