Butt on display at lunch in south of France

I am currently having lunch in a beach restaurant and a girl with a lovely toned body is wearing a tiny thong with full ass on display. This seems to be a fashion thing and there are lots of women wearing the same cheese cutter! People are staring and some women are laughing. I find it a horrible trend and I am wondering what others think.

I guess looking for a kind of excuse
the alternative is… genuinely just a judgy unpleasant person

Pile on? You want to rtft. We've had some sensible posts not to eat in beach cafes if you don't want to see bikinis but we've had lots of horrible 'arse cheek' comments too, encouraging the op's staring and far too many derogatory comments about poo and bumholes sadly.

As a pp so rightly said upthread, there's criticising and there's critiquing - they're different. Anyone interested in social change, attitudes, feminism, sexual politics will have a valid opinion on clothing, which is, after all, a form of communication.

What terrific feminism there - a woman who covers up is a victim of modesty culture, a woman who wears skimpy clothes is a piece of meat. You have to show the correct amount of skin - not too much, not too little, as deemed by @OtterlyAstounding - to be considered a respectable woman.

This isn't about defending thong bikinis or hijabs per se, it's about defending women to wear what the fuck they feel like wearing and respecting their agency in doing so. And not reducing their mindset to what they feel like wearing at that particular moment in time.

When I was younger I certainly enjoyed wearing tiny skirts to clubs and bikinis on beaches because I thought I looked hot (and I was correct). That was not the sum total of my personality and nor did I think it was especially important - merely enjoyable in a moment of leisure.

I am unsure why women in bikinis are deemed to be pieces of meat but not men with their chests out? And have you seen how short some men's shorts are these days.

Do you have kids? Would you hard judge this woman in front of them?

If they judged this woman harshly, you would nod and agree?

Would you judge this woman in a chat with your husband in front of your kids?

In the South of France a couple of years ago we got an eyeful on a train station escalator. The girl ahead of us has on a skirt with a side slit so high that her entire bethonged buttock was hanging out. I'm not a prude but honestly was quite shocked at that.

I think in a beach bar you'd just about get away with a bit of accidental flashing it if you were at least wearing something over a skimpy bikini, but otherwise absolutely not.

My issues are (for the millionth time) about hygiene. I do not care what this woman chooses to wear on the beach but I want more than a thin thong over her anus - her buttocks are not of interest to me. That's my concern, entirely related to the fact that she's sitting in a cafe (doesn't matter where that cafe is, before someone starts that stuff again...)

I also view the fashion (entirely female) for exposing buttocks as sad, but I've explained why in detail upthread. But in this case, that's a secondary issue. I just care about what might be on the sweaty seat for other cafe customers.

I didn't say that what women wear is the total sum of their personality. Nor did I say that wearing a bikini makes women pieces of meat (I said the world treats them as such; highly sexualised bikinis are one small part of a much bigger picture). Nor did I 'reduce mindsets'.

I suppose, according to you, we can't ever critique anything that socialisation might groom a woman or girl into choosing? We can’t critique sex work, porn, teenage girls having anal sex, sexual strangulation, the disparity between the amount of sexualised body that women vs men show...
