To think the El Salvador prison idea is a brilliant one?

I usually steer clear of the news but caught this story earlier. What a brilliant idea - the prisons are overflowing and this would free up space and also save money.

It only failed because the left put every obstacle in their way.

No it failed because it was never correctly planed for and the legalities around the plan were continually ignore. Even Tory MP’s were raising concerns around the proposals, but what didn’t that matter when it was popular with some voters 🙄 Hundreds of millions of pounds wasted that could have been put to far better use one could have been to work on speeding up the asylum process or hospitals, training more medical staff the list goes on …

iIt was not down to the left putting obstacles in the way it was because laws are in place to uphold human right

Well if it puts them off it’s brilliant - death in the channel doesn’t put them off!

the problem is society will never have the true courage to do what is acceptable to solve the majority of crime.

Put a curfew on all the men? Educate everyone to a higher standard? Redistribute wealth? Decriminalise drugs and treat addiction as a public health issue?

I mean you’re right, can’t see many governments being brave enough to do these things.

Laws made by almost exclusively Conservative governments over the last century.

even if you did all that criminials would still be criminals, no matter how good society would or could be, some humans still go rogue.

im taking about cryo freezing criminals eg your in for 20 years, great get in the cryo pod and night night.

much cheaper and less staff needed ect just a warehouse of cryopods of various levels of criminals

France and Germany both have higher proportions of foreign national offenders in prisons, and therefore they remove more by volume. But they don’t record FNOs the way we do, so I’m interested in why you seem to think they remove more people than the Uk. Around 40k people were removed last year I think, around 6k FNOs. The average FNO population is around the 12%, so around 8-9k. Obviously not all FNOs removed are in prison at the time of removal, but it gives you a sense of proportion.

Lolol what is this conversation 😭

Deport them

  • No we can’t send people to El Salvador
No… I said deport them
  • You can’t deport them
Everyone deports them!
  • No one deports them / What are you going to do? Tell me the planes specification.
They do… Germany France etc.
  • We deport more prisoners than Germany / France by percentage
So we can deport them 🫠

Lord give me strength 🤣

Wouldn’t it be a better idea to stop the boats getting to the shore? use a spear? They’re wearing life jackets. After you burst a few the others will be deterred.

Start building new prisons all over Europe as funnily enough a lot of countries in Europe are over capacity now with the rising population and continued mass immigration.

Open up any prisons previously closed, put the money into training staff to work in these prisons so prisoners could actually finish their sentences.

El Salvador is another pig flying in the sky idea.

The news today, middle class areas will have to accommodate more of the immigrants coming, how about just no, full stop, no more.

Poland seems to manage.

Please do some research on El Salvadorian prisons. They are barbaric!

So are a lot of the crimes that have been committed so I couldn't care less how barbaric the prisons are tbh.

This is an honest question.

Do you think "Deport" means booking a flight for a prisoner and dropping them off at the airport?

The comment I replied to tried to say it hasn’t worked because they have the highest level of homicide per capita. It’s very clear from the data that it has worked because they fear going there. Prison should always be somewhere people don’t want to go but if you talk to anyone in this country that has been they’ll tell you it’s a joke and that’s probably why we have so many repeat offenders, it’s worth the risk because they know what it’s like inside a UK prison.

It’s very clear from the data that it has worked because they fear going there

Where exactly does the data show that? Has someone surveyed a load of people in El Salvador who said "I was going to murder a rival but the prisons are scary now so I won't risk it"?

They've locked up 3% of the adult population, crushing the gangs. In other words, most of the people who were responsible for most of El Salvador's murder rate are now locked up. The UK is completely different, most of our murderers aren't repeat offenders, organised crime is comparatively small in the UK.

I might be pursuaded to support sending British politicians, who are convicted of soliciting bribes to advance the interests of hostile foreign nations, to El Salvadorian prisons.

But I expect Reform UK wont be up for that.

Does treason still mean the death penalty?

Does treason still mean the death penalty?

in the United Kingdom, high treason no longer carries the death penalty. The death penalty for treason was officially abolished under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, replaced with a maximum sentence of life imprisonment
