I don’t mean ‘oh, yes, you know Jane, works i finance, really helpful, lovely woman.’ That’s fine.

I mean being called lovely just that, ‘oh sorry lovely I didn’t realise you messaged’

it’s so insincere

Come live in Cornwall where people call you “me Lover” as someone said up thread it’s a regional thing I think

No. My loverrrrrr is an excellent west country term. I especially love it when foreign friends experience it for the first time 😂
"Lovely" is patronizing, naff, twee and simpering all rolled into one. I cannot abide it. ETA Lovely isn't a regional thing. It's spread on social media, I'm certain.

I have noticed lovely creeping in a lot. I'm from an area (north west) where love is used a lot and I don't mind that at all. Lovely makes me cringe. A few months ago I was buying something in a shop where the owner called me lovely, sweetheart, darling, poppet and petal in one visit!

Oh well, at least there are nice people like you around Smile

Nope, this winds me up! It seems condescending to me. Also, for the ones saying ‘be thankful that this is all you have to be annoyed about’, when people become irate over things like this, it’s very likely that they do have other things going on personally and have been tipped over the edge by something as simple as this.

Yes agree, I really dislike this, especially when used by someone I don't know or in a service industry situation, like how do they know if I'm lovely or not? I agree it's completely insincere.
