To think Count Binface is doing a great job in the Clacton by-election?

Count Binface has been out bigging-up Clacton and drawing attention to its potential.

It’s a really positive campaign.

I don’t think he’ll win but I’d love it if he did. I think he’d be brilliant.

And if he doesn’t, I think other candidates could learn a lot from his approach.

@77yearsyoung the point is that Farage isn’t doing anything for Clacton. It’s a low bar in that respect.

But Binface has committed to doing the job - and as an independent he won’t be shackled by party policies. He could be a real tonic, not only for Clacton but for Parliament.

There will be another general election in three years, or sooner, so the voters will have a chance to vote for the main parties again pretty soon. They are quite right to stay clear of this election and to leave Farage to his fate.

The trouble with this and many other threads is that nobody ever puts their head above the parapet.

If the general consensus goes one way.... a lot of people refrain from voicing an opinion at all for fear if being harassed for daring to object, hold another opinion.

I did like his policy that a resigning MP should not be allowed to stand in the same constituency for the election created by that resignation.

Because generally 5% of any polling is dodgy.

There was an episode if "Unacceptable" where an audience poll which should have been a slam dunk 100% came out as 99% (let's say "no", I can't remember the topic). It was so odd the host asked who was the 1% who voted "yes". An audience member raised their hand and admitted they pressed the wrong button 😀

Margin of error is a very real thing depending what you are up to.

I don't know who I'd vote for.
I'm most probably a lot older than most of you and I've always been interested in politics and I'm afraid my party of choice was the Conservative Party. They've made a total hash of government in my opinion and I think the Labour Party are doing the same now. I watch them sitting in parliament trying to score points off each other and I'm ashamed of their behaviour.

We really are in need of a decent Leader and a strong Party.

I think you’ll find Farage started this. You may be able to pin a number of things on the current government but this isn’t one of them, it’s all Nigel’s very own work.

Haven't read all the thread but I hope NF gets knocked off his perch. If an MP resigns,he should be barred from standing again in any constituency for at least 5 years.
We are lucky in that we have an excellent LibDem MP. One who really cares about his constituents. Better than his predecessor who was never here. This one was born and bred locally. Grew up and worked here. Just what's needed.

For me this isn’t about Reform as a party but about Farage as an MP.

He has the residents of Clacton eating out of his hands. These people need someone good on their constituency to bring about real change and better economic outlook.

I can get on hairs with policy and some of their selling points have traction.

However I could never get onside with a party who suggest shooting boats - so drowning immigrants etc as a way to solve the problem.

You can’t just have sound bites. You need real and humane ideas to meet those promises. And a realistic view it won’t happen overnight.

and your ideas need evidencing. Apparently we could only control immigration through Brexit it created the small boat crisis.

Apparently we have to leave the EHCR to lower immigration. Yet Labour have done it because the Tory’s allowed it to happen to keep themselves relevant and to blame their failings on.

An a serious note (with apologies to any unserious bad faith posters here), it would be a delicate balance between preventing fucking about and denying a citizen access to democracy.

I think it's fair to say if an MP resigns, they should be barred from standing in the by election that causes.

However that would be as far as I would take it. They could stand in any other constituency, or even the same constituency at the election after the next.

One thing I would insist on, is that any candidate in an election must be entitled to vote in that election. Which seems not to be the case right now.

Yes, Farage should not have caused this completely unnecessary byelection. But he did, and its far better to vote to oust him than to pretend its not happening. All power to the bin.
