To think Count Binface is doing a great job in the Clacton by-election?

Count Binface has been out bigging-up Clacton and drawing attention to its potential.

It’s a really positive campaign.

I don’t think he’ll win but I’d love it if he did. I think he’d be brilliant.

And if he doesn’t, I think other candidates could learn a lot from his approach.

Read something earlier another Reform bod, 19/20 year old leader of a LA, banging on about 'the Establishment'. This really is part of their schtick as we know, although how anyone can lump everyone from the Greens and the far Left of Labour into that I have no idea. Falls apart even more when the suggestion is that a 5,900 year old Recyclon space warrior with a bin for a head is part of said 'Establishment'. The Establishment seems to be anyone of whatever stripe who disagrees with Farage.

I'd love binface to win. It would bring so much hope. But from what I've seen of the vox pops around clacton then he doesn't have a chance. General knowledge of what political parties and MPs do and of current affairs doesn't seem to be great there. All farage has to say is 'boats' and he will win by a landslide.

Doesn’t that make you suspicious? I’ve seen the same vox pops and some of them are like an episode of Til Death us do part, it seems pretty odd to me that an enthusiastic Binface supporter can’t be found.

Vox pops are not representative and can be picked to push a media view/agenda.

However clacton is very reform voting - reform has spent a lot of money and effort to get Farage re-elected so they are making huge push to get their vote out.

It could be shy bin voters - but most think while it's not impossible for bin to win it was always less likely.

However a point has been made and I do think reform overall been weakend even if the reform vote in Clacton goes up - and poll I pointed to above suggest it may I expect it will depend on voter turn out and how gets their vote out best.

Although I would love to see Binface get the seat, it's highly unlikely. However I'd love it if those saying they'd vote F are the sort who won't say publicly that they'd vote for B and he might get a landslide!

Anyway, one thing I would like to see come out of this farce is a new law/regulation whatever is appropriate to BAN those who resign their seat for standing for the subsequent By-Election. The fact that this is allowed is outrageous, although I'm sure I'll be educated as to the reasons why this is permitted.

I've heard talk of this suggested law change but no reaons why it's not possible - would stop future stunts like this though given how bad this has gone for them perhaps it alone will put people off in the future.

I think it’s permitted because a by-election should be held when a sitting MP defects to a different party. Just as Farage’s farce of a by-election is unjustified, by-elections should have been held in the constituencies of all the Tory MPs who defected to Reform.

I suspect all the pro Farage coverage coming from Clacton is to discourage Binface supporters and make them think it’s not worthwhile to vote at all.

It’s tricky because what do you do if an MP becomes independent? If they are thrown out of the party? Should that also trigger a by-election?

Our electoral system is set up so that we vote for individual people, not parties, but we generally don’t think of it like that until something disrupts it.

It's not a requirment under current UK constitutional rules and I've not heard of any suggestions that is being changed - so that's more personal opinion.

We still go with the idea of picking the person to represent us though most vote on person and party and have for decades.

Yes, it is a personal opinion. I had a lot of respect for Douglas Carswell when he stepped down and triggered a by-election because he’d defected from the Tories to UKIP. It was the ethical thing to do but he wouldn’t have done it if he couldn’t have stood in that by-election. I wonder how many people who voted Tory in 2024 would vote for Braverman, Jenrick and Kruger after their defection?

The polls are still open so I don't think they'd be anything in media at least.

There are legal restrictions on what media can say till 10pm when polls close and I'm not sure if they'd do an exit poll for one by election.

BBC seem to think with number of canidates it will be near breakfast tommrow before results are in - even though it was 4 am in general election but then there was only 9 candidates.

The independent says there will not be an exit poll - though past 10 pm there may be indication of turn out.

Usually a raised stage is erected for the candidates to stand on when the result is announced. However, one large enough for them all and strong enough to take their weight could not be found. 😂
