AIBU to have a third child

Currently have 2 children. Ages 5 and 9. Both wonderful and healthy. Had the urge for a third for about 3 years now and I can’t shake it. I feel it’s crunch time, now or never. I’m 33. Husband is 38. Our children are our absolute lives and we are a solid family unit. We both have goods jobs (in our view) and earn about £100k between us (uk).

Am I being unreasonable to go ahead and do it?

This feeling has hung around for years but I’ve never had the courage to go ahead and do it. Mainly because it feels that I am risking our already perfect set up. Also concerned about age gaps.

if anyone can comment with any experience or thoughts that may help us bring this decision to a head and get either indeed try for a third child (am very aware this may not result in a child) or closure and we can move forward. In serious limbo.

I was an only child and hated it so much that I wanted as many children as possible. I felt like the gift of another sibling, another human and another person to love, another person who could have an impact on the world...I dont know, it just all felt like there were no downsides that really meant anything (to me). I felt like every consideration about cost and space etc didn't factor in, as we are ok financially: not loaded but not on the breadline. I just felt like the magnificence of human life outweighed anything else. Probably a very naive view but that was my perspective and it worked out as I had wanted. Sometimes I think about the distant future, and if my third has children, and they have children etc etc...how many descendents will have come just from her, the third child. As you can see, emotion and sentiment were my main points of reference when deciding what to do. I felt like my children would ultimately benefit no matter what, because they had that other person to love, and they do.

It’s much more normal to have a bigger family here in Ireland. Head to centreparcs or camping in Ireland and see what 3/4/5 kids looks like!

I have 3 quite a big age gap between the third and the first two who are close in age. Also with a household income of half yours in those days and we managed just fine, we wanted a third and it completed our family and we’ve loved it. I was 32 when 3rd was born
