AIBU to find it strange that husband is invited to wedding without me

My husband has been invited to one of his employees wedding, she has worked at his company for 20 years. The invite just has his name on the envelope and there is no name inside just a printed card. He replied online but it seems like it is just for him. It’s all day
We have been married for 40 years and would have never done this despite being on a low budget at the time.

We invited work colleagues without their partners to our wedding, regardless of whether they were married or not. We were tight for numbers (a maximum of 80) and we only wanted people who we knew there. Everyone seemed to understand x

It’s tone deaf to celebrate your own union by ignoring that of others

Tbh I'm old and I've been to a couple of weddings of work colleagues without my husband being invited. His words when I got the invitation were "Do I have to come?" No, you're not invited. Big sigh of relief from him.

If it was me though, I’d be happy to share the driving with DH, stay in a nice hotel room, read a book, watch movies, have room service, bit of a self-pamper while drinking fizz while he is at the wedding

I'd rather do that than go to the wedding of someone I don't know.

How manybtimes are you going to say it's strange?

People can invite whoever they want, you not doing that, doesn't make it or her strange.

Can you fathom that it’s strange to those of us that have never heard of it and would never do it?

What I find more strange is after 13 pages of the majority saying it’s completely fine and very much the norm nowadays, there are posters like you still going on about how it’s strange and rude to not invite spouses of colleagues.

LadyInRainbow · Today 20:00

You don’t know the couple, so why would you be invited. I think when inviting work colleagues and sports team mates to a wedding no +1 is normal. I think the only thing that makes your situation slightly different is that he’s the owner.

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · Today 20:05

You seem very unaware. Weddings are so expensive and lots of venues put limits on numbers. We only invited people we knew and cared about. Why would you want a complete stranger at your wedding ceremony? Close work colleagues were invited to the evening only, no plus ones.

lordbaddingham · Today 20:15

I think it's reasonable to invite work colleagues without a plus one. Presumably you've never met her? He doesn't have to go if he genuinely can't cope without you for a few hours but that's a bit odd in itself.

Well if its a church wedding no one can stop you going in.... so you could go with him and not go to the reception evening do which would be a private affair

But..why would OP go to church to see a wedding of someone she doesn't know and wasn't invited to? Just because her husband can't go on his own for some reason despite apparently holding down a job of some responsibility? The mind boggles.

MmeDubois7 · Today 20:25

She maybe can't afford to invite spouses. Imagine she wanted to invite 10 colleagues. If she invited their spouses, that's 20 wedding guests (presumably quite expensive).
