Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

University friends of dh. Groom had been with same woman (Cathy) throughout uni, but broken up the year after. I met dh just after. G Meets and subsequently marries bride (Becca).Mates group not keen on her but are civil. Who apparently is the spit of gf1. All of the mates are telling themselves "Don't call her Cathy"We get through service; photos, reception Phew. Then bride is stood chatting to the women in our group and foot in mouth me goes "It's been a lovely day, you look gorgeous Cathy" Silence descends. "I Expected it of them(dismissive wave to mates)but you never even met the fucking woman" and swept off. I felt terrible, but they felt I'd lifted the curse and relaxed. Marriage didn't last.

My maid of honour shagged dh’s friend on the sofa of the holiday cottage she was staying in with my family. My mum, stepdad, an aunt and an old family friend (who is a vicar 😂) all got a cottage together for the weekend and as my MOH had to travel from abroad, we made sure she had a room with them so she didn’t have to pay for her accommodation.

The hilarious thing is that it was like 15 minutes by taxi from the venue. So there must have been a point when my mum was like, oh Harry, go on then, you’re coming back with us! And then they must have all sat happily chatting in the taxi knowing that MOH of bringing some guy they’d never met back for a shag. And then they must have all gone to bed to give them their privacy.

When it started getting hot and heavy, my 70 year old auntie threw a condom down to them. She was leaving from our wedding to go to Heathrow for several weeks of solo travel around Europe. She clearly came prepared for the kind of travel fun she was hoping she’d have during 3 weeks of interrailing. 🤣

Definitely not from the last few years, this is something I’ve heard years and years ago!!

My father told my brother, the father of the groom, and me that our mother was telling him every day that she wished he was dead. That made for a fun atmosphere.

Went to the 3rd wedding of the groom. He was nearly 60. Bride was late 30's.
His speech included joking about the baby oil he was going to use on his new bride and where he was putting it.
Her parents were sitting on the front row.

Did she marry P Diddy?

The father of the bride was known to have a drink problem. During the ceremony, he objected at the "any lawful impediment" part 😮

Turns out he'd been at the hip flask beforehand and thought it was the "Who giveth this woman?" part.

😂

At a Reception in a marquee (well, big gazebo) in a back garden in Ilford a neighbour was invited. He started chatting people up and inviting them to his house. Eventually about 4 women were in his house two doors down having group sex. One of them came back over the garden fence and urged me to join them (I didn't). They were all climbing through the gardens all afternoon.

One of them had an autistic son who was distressed because he couldn't find his Mum and badly bashed another kid on the head. Everyone was saying 'where's his Mum?' and I had to explain she was away having sex with the guy from 2 doors down, Then she came back and the mother of injured child attacked her.

Oh superb !! X

At 17 I went to a wedding and was sat at a table with a woman and her son, and another man she didn't know. Woman and man proceed to talk across me all afternoon, get incredibly drunk, then start snogging before leaving to shag in a bush literally on the other side of the window near our table. Her poor son is just sat there finishing his meal in silence.

Not me, but years ago, someone I knew was telling me about their own wedding. Families had never met before. Turned out that brides dad had had an affair with grooms mum. Bride married her half brother. They now have two children with severe special needs.

This probably isn't scandalous enough but at my friends wedding her brothers best friend and her former family au pair (who lived with them when friend was a child and used to also babysit for said friend) were caught shagging in some woodland behind the venue.

That was more ick than scandalous though. Both adults by then of course but bleurgh! She was married with kids too.

That IS scandalous!

Lostworlds · Today 06:49

A married friend of the groom started flirting with a friend of the bride. His wife couldn’t make the wedding but the girl he was flirting with didn’t know he was married. They were dancing and kissing all night until the best man interrupted and asked how his wife and kids are doing. The girl slapped him and left very upset. The wife then arrived to pick up her husband.
It was very awkward for all involved and the groom ended up refusing to speak to his friend again.

My jaw dropped when I read this. How sad.

Goditsmemargaret · Today 07:10

I don't have any properly scandalous ones which is surprising as I'm Irish and I've probably been to 30 or 40 big chaotic weddings.

There was once an odd scenario where a wedding guest wore a full length white lace fishtaiil dress. It was made more confusing by the fact she was similar in appearance to the bride - who didn't seem bothered at all.

Another time I went to my cousin's wedding and was introduced to his friends, all presumably single based on their interest in me and the other cousins. In the bar one fairly handsome charming guy and I hit it off, I gave him my phone number and agreed to a dinner date. My other cousin (best man) appeared, sat down and glared at him till he departed. I was confused and even more so when a very timid looking young woman appeared and sat down looking at me forlornly. My cousin snapped "he's not here". Without a word she stood up and walked off smiling apologetically at me. She was of course his wife. All very odd.

I asked my cousin about it and he was filling me in that the guy is blatant in his bad behaviour and the wife just calmly accepts it's, it's really sad. I was shocked and hanging on his every word. Myself and this cousin are very close and we ended up roaring laughing as we kept talking about various other stuff.

Imagine my surprise when I turned to find yet another silent woman seated at our table but this one looked furious. She stared at us both, me then him then me again. Finally she spoke "so who is this?" My cousin shook his head and told her to get a grip explaining how we were related. She turned out to be the sister of someone he had recently dated.

I couldn't help it, I started to laugh. This made her absolutely incandescent. Before I knew it herself and three of her mates were hurling abuse at me, I was flirting with their friends husband, I was flirting with my own cousin, I was disgusting.

I decided it was time for bed and fled.

The next morning at breakfast it was smiles and hellos all round like it never happened.

Some old friends of my parents, the mother is an absolute narc.

Her eldest daughter got married, the mother wore her own white wedding dress on the day of her daughter's wedding.
People weren't sure who the bride was because it was so fucking weird.
The daughter was really upset but trying to put a brave face on it.
The mother was beaming in the photos and made a huge deal out of the fact she could still fit into her wedding dress.

She couldn't even let her own daughter have her wedding day.

There’s are at least two threads on MN which are over 15 years old and a good 7-8 years before TikTok was launched, referencing that red means you’re the mistress/slept with the groom.

At my cousin's wedding (she was the bride) the groom got really drunk and flirted with all the cousins, told the bride's uncles he'd made a mistake, snogged the bridesmaid on the dance floor and threw up on the dj.

Did the marriage last?

Jardenalia · Today 07:30

The groom’s mother found out at the reception that the best man was shagging her husband, the groom’s father. The bride announced that she and the groom had split up weeks ago but decided to go ahead with the wedding as they liked a party. Same wedding. Horrible.

I was once accidentally the scandalous guest.

In my early twenties I went to my first wedding and wore a 50s style black dress covered in little pictures of red cherries with green leaves. Wore it with red accessories and thought I looked very cool and retro.

Found out on the day that the bride’s family was very traditional, and strongly believed that wearing black to a wedding meant that you were mourning it, wearing red meant you’d previously slept with the groom, and wearing green meant that you were envious of the wedding.

Add to that the fact that I wore pictures of cherries (and cherry earrings) and they concluded that I’d lost my virginity to the groom, wished I was marrying him, and had chosen to publicly announce these facts through my outfit.

I have been very careful with wedding guest outfits since then!

Edited

I know that wearing black is frowned upon although dh's cousin had her bridesmaids in black dresses.
But red and green too ? Never heard of that and the reasons. Bonkers.

That brides family are crazy. having cherries on your dress meant you lost your virginity to him ? Total batshit.

Are this couple still together ? If they are poor man having in-laws like that.

@greenbean80 thanks for this thread! I love it.

I wasn’t there, but a lot of my friends were at a huge and very fancy wedding many years ago. All of them agreed it was the absolute best wedding they’d ever been to. They had an amazing time.
Bride and groom split the very next day. Groom admitted that he hadn’t wanted to go through with it, but didn’t want to ruin the day. 🙊

8misskitty8 · Today 07:37

One of my friends went to a wedding where the bride wanted all the men in kilts to dance to 'you can leave your hat on' from the full monty then lift their kilts to show their willy's. Friends DH declined and she was furious.

RedRosie · Today 07:40

I was once at a wedding where a guest turned up in her own wedding dress. It was kind of not funny though, as she clearly had MH issues related to a marriage that had failed. People were very nice about it and I don't think anyone said anything. It was an accepting group of friends.
