To ask your ultimate wedding guest scandal?

Well, my story is pretty scandalous. I’m from Indian heritage … a cousin I had not seen for years invited by my family to my wedding - she wore her bloody wedding outfit her glam reception - red outfit - all her freaking jewellery I mean Wtaf and I’m still not over it and it’s been 17 years

I’m not Indian but my closest friend is. She has definitely told me brides rewear their wedding lenghas at other weddings. That the amount of make up, hair and jewellery the bride has means there’s no confusion over the bride, but it’s definitely a thing. She got married last year and was looking forward to wearing it again to a wedding later this year but is now pregnant.

Could it be a thing depending on culture?

Really don’t want to come across like I know more about your own culture than you, just trying to ease your feelings that it may not have been a deliberate slight!

I was the bridesmaid. Best man was so drunk, I had to do an (improvised) speech because he couldn’t speak.

Same wedding - groom was so drunk, he missed the photos and felt me up at the reception (I honestly think he was so drunk, he thought I was his new wife).

The marriage lasted three years. Longer than I’d expected!

Our 12 year old bridesmaid also invited several of her school friends to our wedding and they turned up, beautifully dressed, in a taxi, half way through the wedding breakfast.

Indian wedding where the bride’s sister was not just wearing red, but really elaborate, loads of jewellery, really ornate sculptural hair, while the bride was much more toned down, less jewellery etc. Sister was older and had been jilted, so was obviously bitter.

Another wedding, loads of guests got robbed. Someone’s wages, someone’s watch, someone’s phone. That was awful.

Another - best man’s speech included details of a family affair that had lead everyone to question the parentage of the groom (which was true, and both the groom’s dad who had raised him and the man that was possibly his real dad were in the room), along with other highly inappropriate sexual jokes that didn’t look to be well received by the bride’s family.

Most recently, a member of the bar staff was giving all the guests a hard time and being rude and insulting and offering the best man outside - she was only about 18 and she was rude to everyone including the groom and the bride’s parents who had paid for everything. The manager said she was new. She was the talk of the evening.

Bride and Groom disappeared during the dancing. We thought bloody hell can they not wait???? But no, they had a huge row and went home!

They resolved things soon after for a couple of years then finally split up for good.

Best man made a very very racy and extremely explicit speech and the brides dad lamped him mid way through. I was about 7/8, so I didn’t really understand most of it, and my dad put his hands over my ears after the first few jokes - but looking back 29 years later… best man deserved it. Rest of the night carried on though which was weird, the rest of it was a pretty standard (if a bit chavy) wedding. Also no hate to chavy weddings - I had one myself and from what I recall it was a hoot.

Oh and someone got headbutted at my wedding but it was after we left and it was a fight between two plus ones… don’t have plus ones I guess.

At my wedding the exH mother walked off as her other DIL ignored her and his brother started a fight with everyone at the end. It was quite memorable.

I'm afraid I was an unwitting party in a wedding scandal. DP and I went to the wedding of a uni friend. His bride - Irish Catholic - had her five sisters as bridesmaids. At the reception the groom came over to talk to us, and at one point, looking DP in the eye, he said 'I'd have married 'Gym' if you hadn't got there first'. He didn't realise two of the bridesmaids were in earshot.

Gentle reader, the marriage didn't last.

I was at one wedding where the mother of the bride thought she wasn't getting enough attention, so threw herself down half a flight of stairs. Fortunately, half the guests were medics.

I dont understand why people do this.

Had a similar issue with my own wedding (me) and my cousins wedding (her groom), although nowhere near as dramatic. One party clearly doesnt want to get married and others force/talk them into it, and inevitably the marriage doesnt last long!

In my case, I had a baby at 17 and my mother was "shamed" by that (this was 1990 not 1950!) and when my boyfriend of 6 months who was jealous and possessive and controlling, wanted to get married my mother decided that this would make me "respectable". I dont consider it my first marriage as I basically had no choice, I didnt do it, it was done to me. We lasted 2 and a half years from first date to divorce......what a surprise! My sister spent the whole night before talking me into it (she was 22, now at 50+ she says that she regrets that).

If someone is running away the worst thing you can do is talk them into marrying someone they dont want to marry! If only for the sake of the poor sod they will be marrying. Short term its awful but long term its better for everyone.

Mother of the bride and her friend, both must’ve been in their late 60s/early 70s, heckled the groom during the speeches 😳

DH was talked into his first marriage (at the age of 40... he was basically told if he didn't get married now he never would and 'nothing is perfect'). They separated on the honeymoon and divorced as soon as they could. His first marriage, her 4th. It just was never going to be a good idea. Both perfectly nice people, but not suited to each other.

I just recalled a best man speech which included the immortal words 'A woman is like a frying pan... you have to warm her up before sticking the fat in'. Our best man suggested that men like women, but women prefer children and hamsters. Not quite sure why.

Also posted before, my uncles wedding. His best man decided to get naked, they were both in the navy and had just come back from the Falklands, not sure if that had any bearing on it! I was about 9. My Grandmother was disgusted and suggested that all the kids are removed, we just though it was hilarious! He was "led away by friends"!

I am from Indian background too and I have seen these in at least a few weddings. Not sure why they are so thoughtless.

Various speeches referenced group sex with the two grooms. All the grooms' parents were present for the speeches!

This is utterly shocking

I was once at a wedding where the bride, groom and the photographer were chased across the lawn of the wedding venue by angry geese! They had been having photos taken on a small bridge on the lake and the photographer had inadvertently got too close to the nest. The groom and photographer both outrun the bride who ended up falling on the ground and getting her dress all messed up. The groom is still rather in the doghouse for that one many years later!

The "red means you've slept with the groom" meme is a tiktok invention from the last few years. Posters who are telling this tale are making it up.
