AIBU to worry 100F in Zante will ruin our holiday?

Help.
Really worrying.
Suffer terribly with lifelong anxiety which can spiral.
On Friday we're going for holiday in Zante.
This is my first holiday in 20 years.
Taking my 3 teenagers who have never been on holiday.
Really want to be excited but I am petrified about the weather temperature. The met office is saying 100 degrees Fahrenheit when we are there.
When we booked, the travel agent lady said it would be late 80s Fahrenheit.
We will have pool and beach but lots of people are telling me the temperature is going to ruin my holiday as it's a heatwave in Zante.
I'm so upset. I expected heat, but not 100 degrees Fahrenheit every day 😣
Has anyone been there in such heat who could advise? DC are so excited and I am a ball of anxiety about the temperature and can't share their excitement.

Think of it as 38C. A lot less hysterical sounding than 100F. Then do as the locals do. Get up early. Go places. Walk. Swim. Do stuff. Then back to the air-conditioned hotel for a leisurely lunch, followed by a nice long siesta. Then out again in the evening for a stroll, look round the shops, stop for a drink then a late dinner & more drinks. Doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

YANBU - I felt the same before our holiday to Europe a couple of weeks ago. It was 38c some days (around 100f I believe) and it was a lovely holiday👌 We did partly beach/pool holiday, which was honestly fine as you can just sit in the shade if need be. We also did partly city break, which was more challenging BUT we looked for bars with air con and stopped for lots of nice little drinks and games of pool. You will be OK, OP! Have fun

OP when I went to Italy recently, a sunbrella saved my life! Ideally get one with a UV lining but if not, any umbrella will do. Maybe think of getting one for when you walk to the shops etc; it really helps!

100% what @SpottyAlpaca said! ^ Putting 100 degrees (the temp in Fahrenheit) is somewhat over dramatising the situation.

And also, as many posters have said, early August in Greece was never going to be 61F (16C) was it?

if you think it will be miserable you can choose to stay home.

I'm perfectly calm and happy not to make someone feel like shit for booking a holiday in GREECE in SUMMER.

Anyway OP - I really hope you have a brilliant holiday and come back to tell us all the lovely things you did. Or didn't do and just chilled. I live for my holidays, and sometimes I have had no choice but to book somewhere that I really wanted to go during the hottest time of the year due to work.

Yes I agree @EnyWun - the heat of recent weeks in the UK has been hard bc we have had to go about our daily lives – go to school, work in offices with no aircon, do the shopping. You can just sit about in the shade and relax. It will be fine and I am sure you will all enjoy it.

It was that hot when we went to Florida and we spent most days marching around Disney and universal. Yes it’s hot but most indoor places are air conditioned unlike here. Go for a wander in the morning, spend time in the pool/shade, have a nap in the hottest part of the day then out in the evening. Job’s a good un.

Having googled 100f is roughly 37-38c. Which is very hot. But… you’ll have the pool, the sea and presumably air conditioning. If I was to be dealing with those temperatures I’d rather have a pool to jump into when it all got too much rather than have to carry on as normal with work and school as people have had to here when the temperature has reached the same in recent months.

I think you’ll be fine as long as you have plenty of suncream to hand and drink lots of water. Try and ignore all the (possibly jealous) miserable bastards and their doom mongering.

You’ll be fine OP. Yes it’s hot, but you’ll have air con everywhere, a pool, the sea. And heat on holiday is not like heat at home, because on holiday you take your time, sit down, have cold drinks, snooze in the afternoon of you want. Unlike at home when you have to keep working and doing all the domestic stuff regardless of the temperature.

We just had a week in Italy and none of us moaned about the heat. One day back at home and we’re all grumbling about it!

As others have said, those temps are much more manageable in holiday conditions than at home with a pool and aircon. You’ll be fine. Enjoy your holiday.

It would be madness to not go because it’s a bit hotter than expected.

Exactly this. Had a heatwave on our holiday recently and it was so much nicer than the ones at home! The sea, pool and aircon make a difference.

I’ve once been in May, it was 111 (44) degrees every day, hot as fuck! Ice creams literally melted in your hands in seconds. Go out early, AVOID the sun between 11 and 3, go back out late afternoon. Definitely everyone wear a hat, apply sunscreen VERY regularly. Use the pool, sea, outdoor showers to cool down. Find air conditioned bars/lounges.

If you are there just for laying by the beach, pool, reading, dinner out etc… it will be manageable if you can access shade easily and have a/c. If you were hoping to explore a bit, do activities etc… you may not want to /may not enjoy it as much so just manage expectations. But get out on a boat if you can. Hopefully you’re in a resort with indoor activities too…,

Give it a rest. I agree with @DailyMaui . Posters could be more supportive. Not everyone has experience of travelling in southern Europe in the summer holidays. It’s not as if parents have a great deal of choice what with school holidays.

You will be fine it’s not like you are in work or at home where there is lots to be done.You are on holiday so don’t really have to do anything if you don’t want to.Other than relax and enjoy it, there is always the shade, cold pool, cold drinks, air con room.You know what clothes to take and how you will need suncream.Try not to stress too much you will have a great time.Next year try and go either early or late so that you avoid the extreme heat.

OP the BBC say Zakynthos will bw 35 degrees. That is hot but it has been that hot here.

Greece is set up for hotter weather, yiu'll have aircon and everywhere shuts down in the afternoon for siesta so you either set up camp in a shady bar or go back to your room for a snooze.

Take sun cream, hats, sunglasses and water and avoid the sun in the hottest part of the day.

We travelled across Paris last month in 35 degree heat and on to Toulouse and arrived in 38 degree heat. We were fine.

You need to slow down, do a lot more earky morning and evenings. Work with the heat, not against it

We went to Turkey last year and it was 42°c (107f). We stayed by the pool and beach and it was fine. My DS lived in the pool, I stayed in the shade on a sunlounger, occasionally cooling off in the pool, and DH laid in the full sun like an idiot 🙄. But it was absolutely fine. Was so nice in the evenings feeling warm! You’ll be absolutely fine.

Fahrenheit? Where are you travelling from? America? Or the 1950s?
