AIBU to worry 100F in Zante will ruin our holiday?

Help.
Really worrying.
Suffer terribly with lifelong anxiety which can spiral.
On Friday we're going for holiday in Zante.
This is my first holiday in 20 years.
Taking my 3 teenagers who have never been on holiday.
Really want to be excited but I am petrified about the weather temperature. The met office is saying 100 degrees Fahrenheit when we are there.
When we booked, the travel agent lady said it would be late 80s Fahrenheit.
We will have pool and beach but lots of people are telling me the temperature is going to ruin my holiday as it's a heatwave in Zante.
I'm so upset. I expected heat, but not 100 degrees Fahrenheit every day 😣
Has anyone been there in such heat who could advise? DC are so excited and I am a ball of anxiety about the temperature and can't share their excitement.

You’ve booked Greece in August. August is the hottest month in Central Europe. It will be hot. There will be a pool. Swim in it.

Either you go and cope with the air con and pool and sea

or you cancel and lose all your money.

I’ve spent a few summers in Turkey when the heat has been this high. As others have said, go out early, stay inside in the afternoon and go out again in the evening when it’s dropped. Lots of water, a hat that doesn’t touch your scalp is a must ie not a baseball cap, and limit your activities to the shade and the pool.

I’ve been in Crete at 35 degrees. Spent most of the time between the pool and the sea across the road. You should be fine.

If course we expect it, in August. This is not new, this is climate change.
Why would you not think it would be extremely hot in Greece in August?

The actual forecast for the weekend is around 32 to 34 degrees though

I can't think in farenheit but I'm guessing that's about 40C.
I remember a holiday in Zante in the 1980s. We stayed in a grotty apartment and it was 40C plus every day. I've never been so hot in my life. We soaked the sheets before bed and had a bowl of water next to the bed.
But you'll have air con and that makes all the difference.
Get up early for pool and beach. Chill in the room between 12 and 4, then back to pool. Eat late.

I’m not sure what you were expecting in Greece in August tbh. Even if the average temp is lower there is always news of Greece being 40+ this time of year

Just read through some of the posts. LOL, most posters are saying the same! What do you expect in August in Greece!?

Instead of sitting there worrying about weather, why not come up with a plan to keep cool?

I agree heat in the Med is more bearable than the same heat in the UK. 100F is about 37º C – well it has been 34/35º in the Uk in recent weeks.

I quoted the poster above bc people always talk about midday as if that is the hottest time of day (I blame Noel Coward tbh) – in fact the hottest period (in the UK and in Greece as well) is more likely to be 4pm/5pm. So I recommend a siesta from 2pm-4.30pm.

Don't worry OP – as others say, if you have aircon and a pool you will be fine, Just don't expect to do a lot of sightseeing. In fact I wouldn't do any at all.

Hi OP. Try your best to stop worrying. If you have an air conditioned hotel, a pool and a beach it will be fine. I find heat the worst when I need to do loads of things. Heat in a city in the UK can be brutal. But heat on a beach holiday is more manageable. As the other (nicer) posters have said, have hats, suncream, stay hydrated and don't try to over do it if it gets very hot.

We were in Florence last year in 40 degree heat and we paced ourselves, did most things in the morning and late afternoon. A relaxed lunch with a nap sorted the heat of the day. When we were at the coast a few days later in similar temps it felt much cooler and was easier because we weren't' trying to cram in loads of museums, sights etc. I still managed to drink my fair share of wine and limoncello/hugo spritz despite the heat.

It will be fine. Do things in the morning and evening and stay in the shade or rest after lunch. Drink plenty of water and you will all be fine.

If it’s just you and the teens you will be grand. We were in similar temps a few weeks ago in France with babies and toddlers. That was a bit much. If we were all adults it would have been much easier.

And I am an ice cold winter baby. But it surprised me how well I coped after a few days. I came back to the U.K. heatwave and was freezing! Could have worn a jumper but I actually was enjoying the chills. Made a nice change 😂

@DailyMaui Oh, do stop being so dramatic! Posters are just saying what on earth did the OP expect, booking a trip to GREECE in early August? Come on! How can anyone not know there was a risk of it being very hot?! Especially given the fact it's been over 40C in that part of the world in summer for the past 6-7 years!

I was in greece last summer and the summer before and to be honest yes I found the heat unbearable. It's hotter than even greek people are used to.

I think we all need to start understanding that 'holiday' in what is essentially an extreme weather breakdown situation is not fun.

not to be negative OP I just think being realistic it will be painfully hot - if you have to go think about how you can avoid the heat.

Greek people will be indoors all day and will only go out in the evening - they have a lovely culture of kids/ families/adults all being out in the squares etc at night.

Act like a european not a Brit basically - avoid the sun entirely during the day and enjoy your evenings.

Greece is a wonderful country and Greek people are the best. I am sure you will have a great time even if it's very hot!

It’s Greece in peak summer. Of course it’s going to be close to 40c than 26c

also have you been living under a rock? Climate change, wild fires, intense heat have been a major theme in the summer months across Europe for a few years now

We’ve just done València. So walking all day in higher temps and it was fine. We stayed hydrated and in the shade, wore hats all day and had one of our best holidays

Exactly. find it bizarre that anyone would book a holiday to GREECE in August, and then say they are worried about it being 38C. (That's what 100F is, and we have had that temperature in the UK before!)

Its different, your not going to work, or wearing work clothes, you can take your time with things, chill out, sit in the shade, get in the pool..

you will be fine. hydrate and get the shorts out!
